    My Christmas potatoes may be the same Steve, but the parsnips, carrots and sprouts should be lovely. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

      I was a bit more miffed that the last 4 buckets of maincrops that were the same. Lesson learned Terry - tip 'em out earlier LOL

    Now that's a Christmas sweater !! I guess the freeze thaw didn't do the spuds any favours.
    Nice sprouts, ours a buried under a foot and a half of snow, with a little freezing rain ontop lol !!
    Merry Christmas and Happy New Steve!!
    Cheers the Padawans ❄️🎅🇨🇦👍

      Oh no! The sprouts should be well insulated from the cold now though (mine survived the minus 13 we had). I had a look at s summer cabbage as I was leaving the plot - they look like rotten sponges on sticks LOL
      Keep warm guys and here all the very best to you for Christmas and the year ahead 🎅

      @Digwell Greenfingers dropping to 30°F tonight and tomorrow night, actually Saturday morning and Sunday morning. All the worms will be living in the house for a couple days 😱

    • @DigwellGreenfingers
      @DigwellGreenfingers  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peggyhelblingsgardenwhatyo7920 I was surprised that mine have survived our cold spell last week. I went to move the top layer of the tower to the compost bin, thinking the worms were dead - and there they were eating away!

      @robinmiller1783 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DigwellGreenfingers Yes we did miss that subzero crazy weather. Biggest blessing was 3,600 miles of clear roads. Oklahoma had super high winds, but that’s doable with no snow and sunshine. There’s some rather desolate area’s between here and Arizona, you don’t have anything like it in the UK. The spinach and bunching onions survived in the cold frame.

    Klaus

    • @DigwellGreenfingers
      @DigwellGreenfingers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Take care Klaus - I've been watching your (Canada's) weather on the news, not good!
      All I do for bubble n squeak is throw all of the "extras" from the meal: spuds, cabbage, carrots, sprouts, gravy, stuffing - everything except the meat - into a big bowl. Chop it, mash it, etc to a rough texture. I may add a few extras like sprouts if I think it needs it and then just fry it in a big frying pan/skillet like hash browns, leaving it to go brown on the bottom before turning. And I chop it about a bit so there is a load of well cooked bits on the inside (like stirring the skin into a baked rice pudding LOL)
      Stay safe over there and have a super Christmas! 🎅

      @WhatWeDoChannel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DigwellGreenfingers thank you. I see bubble and squeak in my near future! The only thing is that we have a German tradition, from my Dad’s side of the family, of eating braised red cabbage with Christmas dinner, I think the braised cabbage should be left out of the bubble and squeak🤔!

    Do you actually find that sprouts keep growing this late Steve? I find they just blow and go to seed myself. I do like blown sprouts though so I don’t care : all the best - Steve

    • @DigwellGreenfingers
      @DigwellGreenfingers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually the "normal sized" ones 1" diameter stop growing and do blow but the small ones carry on a bit. Well, I know Brodie do not sure on the Red Bull and DarkMar as this is my first time growing then, but they are both claimed to crop until February.
      By the way, the Crispus were excellent today - I think they tasted better than normal after the cold weather!

    • @SteveRichards27
      @SteveRichards27 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DigwellGreenfingers I’ve been eating them for about a month and they taste the same to me, but we had a frost back in October and again in early November. The red bull didn’t grow much for me after December, but I mainly grow them for the leaves, as the sprouts are always tiny : all the best - Steve
