The 488 is freaking awesome. Your 414 is very nice in its own right as well. The 8 tracks on the 488 make it more legit for recording anything you want. Hope you and your family are doing well. Thanks for the song compliment as well!
@@Govier oh man, the 488 is the dream! I feel like I could make any song and keep it under 8 tracks. It would be so perfect! Hope ya’ll are doing well also buddy!!
Besides the helpful tutorial, good song there 👍 Have you figured out any way to get each track out onto the DAW separately without losing sync? I've got the same model tascam as you on the way, and I'm trying to plan out how to integrate this with the digital realm. Thanks.
@@wehappyfewmusic Duplication.ca makes them. I got them off of Ebay a few years ago. I can really only get a couple songs out of them as it's only 11 minutes of record time and I don't record right at the beginning of the tape. I just opened up a Studio Master type ii 60 minutes cobalt tape yesterday to record with. I initially recorded with dbx on but the tape didn't seem to take too kindly to it for some reason. I kept the two tracks that I recorded with dbx on even after recording everything else with dbx off and the recording sounds absolutely insane. VERY lo-fi. I've been experimenting with different ways to get intentional, almost obtrusively lo-fi cassette sounds like that on this new album I'm working on. I've been mixing all the songs from my 488 and marantz pmd 720 to my tascam 302 deck and I think I'm going to get a cheap deck and bounce the 302 masters to the cheap one and then back to the 302. I kinda want the songs to sound like they were some underground basement demos from the mid-80s or something. Anyway this is probably the longest youtube comment I've ever made. Hope you and yours are well.
@@Govier Thanks for the link and cool to hear how you got on with the Studio Master tape! It seems like you’ve got very similar results to I did from the ATR cobalt (rumour is it’s the same tape?). If you’re going for a lofi vibe though it should work a treat, I found the ATR to be kinda grainy and raw sounding. Looking forward to hearing the album once you’re done! Cheers
Love to see the progression you’ve made with the music. Oak Tree Bleed might be my current favorite off Little Falls. It gave me The Flaming Lips vibes (with my lack of overall music knowledge). Beautiful track. This is creep aka Tristan, here. 🙏
Omg dude I haven't talked to you in forever! I was thinking about you the other day funnily enough. Thanks for checking out the music. What's your email? I don't think youtube has direct messaging anymore.
Hey, don’t know if my comment was auto removed or if you removed for privacy. I was half-asleep, so I for some reason decided to just type my email and dip. But yeah, it’s been forever. Hopefully good things when you thought of me lol. Over the years I have used a snippet of comedy I got from you. You made the joke, or anti-joke or whatever, asking why there’s not like, 31 or 32 teams or something in the nba. The delivery is most based, and something I still use to this day. And absolutely, I like to keep track of the music endeavors of the people we connected with years ago thru gaming on TH-cam. Zane Alexander being the other. If you need/want my email again, I can send it. Just don’t wanna spray it out there unnecessarily.
Man I know exactly what video you’re talking about haha. I had such a good time making that video. If you contact me thru my bandcamp I’ll be able to have your email. Just Google govier music and you should be able to find it.
Phones Jack does monitor the output of the tape. Just be sure you have the top knobs all the way turned to mix instead of cue, select group 1-2 as the monitor group, and then make sure all the tracks have the 1-2 group button pushed in as well. The latter would be the same if you were trying to monitor groups 3-4 you would just have to select those groups instead.
@@Govier hmmm… playing a bootleg tape, can see tracks 1,2,7,8 as expected in the levels screen, but L and R has no level… very strange bcos all outputs work for input monitoring… my hypothesis is that the OPamps or capacitors have blown on the playback amp, although im not very well versed in these machines. I reckon previous owner plugged a speaker into the phones port and overvolted it
@@beaufildes6306 Is the master fader down? did you try the master for both groups 1-2 and 3-4? Double check to make sure everything is assigned correctly. Literally one knob or switch pushed incorrectly and you could get no sound out of the machine.
@@Govier thanks for your help my man but unfortunately I’ve tried pretty much everything. Fortunately I am into electronics repair just haven’t had a minute to crack it open. Both master faders work when input monitoring, just get nothing for tape playback. Its very strange… i might vlog the issue and keep the internet updated because its really hard to find anything on it online. Shame really because its meant to be a christmas present for the burd
Hey mate was hoping you could answer a question I had. I’m relation to bouncing a full song stereo track for premaster bouncing down to cassette - could I effectively double the IPS of a Tascam by pitching down the full track in my DAW, recording that to cassette at max ips, then pitching it back up in my DAW after cassette bouncing? Or will this introduce artifacts/unwanted effects on the mix? Cheers
I don’t think that would work. If you’re pitching it down and the song is slowed because of the pitch down it’s just going to be brought back to normal speed after you get it back in your daw. If it’s not slowed and just pitched down then it will just be pitched back up again without being sped up once it’s back in your daw. I would just bounce it to the cassette and bounce it back to your daw.
@@Goviercan you make a tutorial on how to do this process for the sake of the people ! And also a tutorial on how to set up this gear to the daw I’m looking to purchase and I want to take my compositions through tape and back to mp3 / wav …. I appreciate what you do for music humanity

Just picked up a 488 off of Marketplace this week. I knew this video would come in handy!

Great tutorial video man, and cool song. Love those synth parts in the 2nd half of the tune!

No it doesn’t
This song is worth releasing, mate.
Thanks a lot Zvuki. I tried another mix on it where the synths fade in a bit more instead of coming in all at once but I liked this one more.
