    Thank you!! I scanned a few thousand negatives and the method I was using was a) not very good and b) extremely time consuming. I used a regular scanner, and scanned 6 or so sheets of negatives at a time, so my quality isn't spectacular - but its good enough and now with your method I CAN SEE THE PHOTOS!! This is going to severely cut down on my edit time, making my family (who is waiting for them) VERY excited.
    Thank you!!

    i saw so many videos on this and i gotta say this video is the best! it's short, on point, and you also talked about what and why we need it to the necessary point! thank you you rock!

    I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this video. I recently found some negatives that were my grandmother's in a building that was to be torn down. They were filthy and moldy. I had spend several days trying to decide which scanner/converrter to purchase. You saved me money. This worked so well. I used a 100mm macro lens and placed the negatives between two sheets of glass from picture frames. I just held them up to the window and was amazed at how great the images were I was able to get. Thanks again!

    This worked like a dream. My Dad had a few old negatives he wanted converted. I just used window light with a macro lens against the snow on a neighbors roof. I'll try again with a softbox and a tripod and to see if I can get it a tad sharper. And yes - the result on a scanner was crap.

    So the film from the canister straight after it's used is not the negative form? You have to actually get it developed to see the picture?

    Thanks so much, you've made this so simple it's exactly what I needed. I've watch so many other videos and was about to give up as I have Photoshop and knew there must be a way to use it for my 35 mm negative scans.

    That's an interesting idea. I would put a piece of frosted acetate, or silk paper (the kind they use inside gift boxes) in between the negative and the mirror to diffuse the glare.
    Did it work for you?

    Maybe if you don't close the lid and put a light source above the scanner with paper towel to spread the light evenly may work. I'm going to try next weekend. Other than that I will use my Kodak P460 that does negatives. But this way did a great job. Would of done it this way last year ago if i saw this.

    Holy smokes this is cool. I'm 46 and have an old Sony Discman camera negatives of family I'm trying to transfer. The negatives are very small but they are from over 30 years ago. I would love to move them to my scanner. I have never seen the images on these negatives.

    You can use a regular scanner my scanner cost $40 @ walmart. Why did the negative comout two dark? Because you closed the lid. Scan the negative with the lid open works great

    Ok, here's the deal. What if I put the negs on the scanner glass, put a piece of frosted acetate or white silk paper covering the negs, put the light of a 40-60 w lamp on them and go right ahead and scan.
    Do you think it would also work that way? I can't afford right now a good digital camera like yours.

    Je suis très surpris que tout le monde trouve ça génial.C'est du pur bricolage, et le résultat,image positive certes,est très discutable en termes de qualité! J'aimerais comparer un agrandissement à partir du négatif VS le "scan" photoshopé.
    I am very surprised that everybody find it great.It is only pure bodge-up, and the result,if it's certainly a positive image,is very doubtful in terms of quality! I'd like to compare an enlargement directly from the neg VS the photoshoped "scan".

    OK so a scanner or what looks like a 5Dmkii and a macro lens cost over $2000. You did not say you would need a macro lens, I would say its a must for taking a photo of a neg.

    Is there any places that does this process for you? I dont think i have the time or patience to deal with it let alone have the equipment. Is there any convenience store that prints negatives out for you ?

    • @patdoyle2514
      @patdoyle2514 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Starlyn Corral ;
      No! Joe's variety store can't do this process. You must find the time and patience. Where do you have your C41 processing done at present? Do you really have a film type camera? Try Walmart, shoppers drugs, Staples, a Loblaws superstore, Just do a search in your 'hood. Walgreen? Target?
      All you need are 2 cameras. One film and one digital. Plus a graphical Image Manipulation Program.
      Now, do your own search.

    Or... Get an iPad cover the screen with white baking paper; this defuses the light... And scan it with your negative between the light tablet and scanner this gives the effect of a double illuminated scanner like the pros use.

    • @alduswong
      @alduswong 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @andrewford80
      @andrewford80 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a pretty good idea. I would just add that it can be difficult on some scanners to get the focus perfect. Its a bit easier with the dslr method. Getting the dslr sensor plane parallel to the film can it hard though.

    use blue light - (you no need after Photoshop and extra software) .... if use normal light source - ad blue paper - is same results ... for fast mode - (smartphone) - switch to negative photo - see real time real color of photo

    Wow you're really misleading so many people. That's no way to treat your negs, you'll be getting finger prints and scratches all over the. There's no coming back from scratches on your negatives.
    Do it this way and you won't have nice photos, you'll have warped, scratched and marked representations of photos.
    There are scanners you can buy for next to nothing that will do a far better job and will require led handling of the media and so reduce damaging it.
    I cringe when I see you hold it with your finger and thumb. That's no way to treat your film.

    Definitively you are a very young person. Chemical photography meant taking a picture. This operation meant that the film is hit by light. The film was light sensitive and there was a chemical change of the film but there was no visible image. The film had to be processed with special chemicals to obtain a fixed image. This image was inverted, that is why it is called negative. In turn this negative is printed to paper also by special chemical process. Simple explanation.
