Martin Short is an under rated comedic genius. Johnny loved his impressions and absurdist humor. Amazing talent.
So glad Carson liked him. These are priceless.
My god imagine him and Robin Williams in the same room and firing on all cylinders. Chaos.
Martin Short always cracks me up. Along with Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams I think are the three best ever at improv comedy and now Martin is the only one still with us.
Carson loved him. He's a legend.
Its funny that Martin Short mentions Jerry Lewis' energy. When Martin still is as energetic today as he is in this clip.
Martin Short preps for about a month if not longer for his talk show appearances. He sends all his jokes and ideas to the show ahead of time to find tune it to his best 5 or 7 minutes or however long he has. That is why he is so good.
Amazed to see Martin Short was on Johnny Carson show ... I don't know how I could have missed it
Didn't even hear about it ..
His Franc in Father of the Bride was hilarious!!
I loved the old tonight show with Johnny Carson! It is such a classic and classy show. Martin short is one of the best too. Love all those old comedy guys they were in a class of their own.
I always wonder what these crazies were like in the classroom. Can you imagine being in class with them?
If I only remember one thing about Martin Short it'll be that he was fun.
Martin Short was the quintessential guest whenever he visited Mr. Carson's, "Tonight" show, and David Letterman on CBS.
When I worked stocking groceries at night (we were the "night stockers.") we would be given a pallet and an aisle to ourselves. .
I'd be bored out of my tree and start doing impressions, one at one end of the aisle then run to the other and do a retort in another voicis...
I'd have Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney having an argument or Clint Eastwood and WC Fields in a barroom conversation... Eventually my shift manager came up to me and asked (ok, ordered) me to stop and said "Man, that's really good and clever but, you've gotta stop, the other guys are rolling on the floor and nobody but you is getting any work done." I'd be running the stock up and down, slinging it onto the shelves but mine was the only one done. 😆 🤣
I was a third shift stocker years ago. It’s a special breed of people who work that shift. We had a lot of fun 😃
He is so incredibly funny
I never saw Carson as taken with a guest as with Martin. Has anyone else?
It means something to me that Ed McMahon served in the United States Marine Corps. Each time I see him that thought crosses my mind, along with that laugh. Thank you.
Nobody thanked anyone for their service back in the day, because everyone served. They’d just be thanking each other lol.
Martin Short, he is one of the most talented actors in the world. He did these David Steinberg and Jerry Lewis impersonations that ended up evolving into some Simpson Characters.
He came up with a character named Ed Grimly. Eugene Levy and Martin Short did a version of the merchant of Venice.
The funniest skit ever!!!!
Earliest Jiminy Glick
I was listening to the Strike Force Five Podcast (the hosts of the late night shows: Colbert, Fallon, Meyers, Kimmel, and Oliver) and they were saying how Martin Short was one of their favorite guests, as he always delivers. He does.
If you haven't read his autobiography, "I Must Say: My Life As a Humble Comedy Legend," you're missing out. It's fantastic. I got the audiobook and it's amazing. He sings, which you can't get in a hardcover. He really performs: I laughed and cried. Literally. The last chapter of the book had me bawling. It's so sweet and loving and it took me a few days to get over it. Absolutely terrific.
It's amazing how many actors voice usually deepen or change as they age but you could listen to this side by side with a clip from Only Murders in the Building and even in the 70s he has the exact same voice
Can’t believe this was 35 years ago
The funniest person by a billion miles
He could do a Joel Osteen impression.
Short does a hilarious Ron Wilson imitation as well. You know, the famous ...
hockey player, garden guru, Marvel Comic creator, convicted Texas state representative, president of Best Buy, bus driver, actor, Detroit area children's wellness advocate, vintage auto collector, sales and marketing manager ... and cowboy poet!!!
Who can the man NOT do?
Extremely intelligent and creative. The Best comedians usually are like Billy Connelly Robin Williams and Johnathan Winters.
Wow, this great!! Loved Ed grimley, rt there with chopping broccoli 🥦
I was too young to appreciate his comedy stylings at the time, but I absolutely loved the Ed Grimley cartoon!
Martin Short was ahead of his time ... the audience here just wasn’t quite getting him.
Wooooow you can hear shades of Jiminy Glick through that character!!
The birth of Jiminy
Jerry Lewis impression : Hello Mrs lady person 🤡
Not much of a stretch to see who Jim Carrey learned from!!! 😀
I see where Jiminy Glick started.
I was just about to say the same thing!
The Hairdresser routine was the beginning!
His surname is certainly accurate.
7:20 Sounds like Jiminy Glick.
Martin short was on the shortlist, no pun intended, of those who could make Johnny laugh really hard! This clip is one of the very few times that Martin Short was not on top of his game. Didn’t seem all that funny this time. Although his David Steinberg impression is always hilarious!
Can you all upload more Robin Williams interviews?
Here here !!! … anyone who hasn’t seen his comedy routine on golf ⛳️!! Search utube !!
I had to do a search on James Coco for the joke. How quick we forget. At the time of the show he was dead only a year.
😊
Martin looks close enough to Tom Cruise at this point [including his height] that l wish he did a TC impression. Maybe "Jiminy Glick" interviewed Tom Cruise?
Best talk show guest of all time. Oddly, I never liked him on SNL etc. Now with Steve, he is killing it.
He looks like he’s eight here. Never laughed once at that Grimly character…

Short never made it big in Hollywood but he was immensely talented and entertaining.
His Katherine Hepburn impression was amazing.
He did pretty good I think. He’s worth 50 million. Maybe think before you speak.
@@Chuck_Hooks I know quite a few actors who made it big in Hollywood yet they're not a-list actors.
When baggy suits were the fashion.. now they are sprayed on.
Martin Hayter Short (Hamilton; Ontario; 26 de marzo de 1950) es un comediante, actor, escritor, cantante, actor de voz, y productor de cine estadounidense-canadiense.
Don't do drugs kids
First! And funny 😁
Marty is Great. He definitely does recycle his jokes, though. He did a variation on the "chunk of make-up falling off" 25 years later with someone totally different who was actually on the couch with him. Can't remember who it was.
Why do you NOT show the clips? Frustrating
If you had Mr Carson laughing that hard then you were as good as gold!
