Love it! Sounds like it was composed as a challenge to Liszt's contemporaries as a "there, match that!" or "I can do one better than you!" Designed to show off Liszt's absolute mastery of the piano, as it seems to push both instrument and pianist to their limits. For all that, it's a fantastic piece!

This is amazing use of tonal and dynamic contrasts! For an amusing effect, listen at 1.25x speed and imagine Liszt himself playing.

Interested to see that David Mitchell's Soapbox channel like this, since the man himself no apparent interest in music at all :P I, though, think this is great. Liszt was truly the master of the piano.

This anarchic music is the sort of music that if you are not interested in music would make you think twice about your lack of interest. From my perspective this piece has sounds that defy musical sense from the first chord. That stuff from 1:10, then 1:30 then the ascending and descending arpeggios after 2:00, the madness at 3:00. Why are they there? Liszt was just brilliantly self indulgent, arrogant and brilliant. Andreas extracted that smart-arsery perfectly. Listen to the sound AND see the hand pound the keyboard! Amazing. It's 2014. Love the bum off the seat moments from 2:45. This stuff is about 2000% better watching it played than just listening.
