A couple of things, They harmonise beautifully on many songs, Try listening to If I Could Fly or Night Changes, I love Liam's voice on Drag Me Down, and Harry was born to Rock, takes me back to the Rock bands of my youth 1970s
You should check out the music video for this song, it's really cool, they filmed it at NASA. This was the first song they released after Zayn left the band with the new album.
I'll get the directioners hate for this, but from this performance you can clearly see that the band is on its final days. They are all good and, as you said individuals, but you can see them growing further and further apart - especially comparing to the earlier days of the band. You can already hear from this performance where they are heading, how they will sound individually in the future, and that how they seem to be more and more themselves and not so much "the band" anymore. Harry is a real stand out. There was never a question of him being a succesful solo artist.
I'd agree. I don't think like they hated each other or anything but they were mentally ready to go their own ways. I think they had some crisis right after Zayn left but once they decided on hiatus, they resolved it for sure. And about how they all sound similar to their solo sounds - totally agree! Especially Louis and Niall :)
a lot of stuff from 2015 you can just tell that not only are they tired but that they needed some independence and the hiatus/break up was the best thing they could've done and you can just tell that they're meant to be solo artists like some people just aren't meant to be solo artists but some people are but they needed the band so that they could grow into themselves and gain experience first

Was my first concert in ‘88 saw them in 2019 and will be going in July 2022. They actually sing and ‘80’s and ‘90s dance. They don’t just stand there and pour water all over each other

Louis’s solo stuff is britrock/indie and well worth checking out.
