Is there a list of Shotokan katas anywhere? The lists I see never include this one, only have the first version of Meikyo, and often leave out Jiin and Wankan.
same case here, we saw in national competitions in england once back then 2014. its so refreshing to see some kata that is not done before, or done so little that is forgoten almost. Jasmin done this kata on a top athlete level
@@karateklubselters Yeah Absolutely, I see that its wasn’t even announced by her Hyakuhapo/Hyakuhachiho but rather Suparenpei. Must be that its not its own kata on the WKF master list, and this is just a valid schools interpretation. Would be cool to see other Shotokanized kata like this.

This is very athletic the lady is very talented indeed but not the original version of hyakuhachiho and, i direct people to look up the Arai sensei version which more resembles suparinpei. The issue i have is that by changing the moves you also change the tracable application which can become lost or misinterpreted, this is why self defence training becomes a headache. I don't know why shotokan had to screw around with kata that were fine the way they were, just for competition. if people dont like what i say well your free to your opinion, and i happen to be a shotokan practitioner, and let me just say i have many criticisms of the art, but i do hope people will look up the version of this kata performed by Arai sensei.....judge for yourselves.

In fact it is not apocryphal kata, its official kata, recognized by many masters across the world, master Kanazawa developed this kata from Suparimpei, and believe me my friend its not easy at it seems to develop something, or derive from, it must be done by the hand of a master, and Kanazawa was 10th Dan, and done many great things for karate, so respectfully we say it’s done a pretty good job. The athlete Jamin on video did great kata as Valdesi says in commentary, and she have that zanshin (in karate sport manner), you see her fight in fact when she do a kata.

That’s why I perceive as unnecessary the adoption of Suparimpei by Shotokan. Nonetheless, I do see the athlete did great for WKF standards. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but one also needs fudoshin and zanshin and everything “shin”, indeed, to perform at that level under that kind of stress. So, yes, not my thing, but yes, she’s still phenomenal. 👊

Hyakuhashiho was referenced by Nakayama sensei in Best Karate. So not so apocryphal. Kata's tell a story adapted by the messenger. How many versions for Bassai/Passai are there? I do agree with your WKF. I'm too much a child of 1980's JKA.

Just when I thought Kyokushinkai had deformed (defiled would be a better term) a few Goju katas, now this. Horrible version of Suparimpei kata. Same goes for the Kanazawa version, horrible. If you want to learn kata from other styles, go practice that style as well (I have done exactly that) please don't come and defile a good traditional kata under false pretenses just because it is another big Japanese organization incorporated by a grand master and rename it in a similar fashion. Yeah, its creative, blah blah. Still a defilement.
Nakayama talked about this kata in Shotokan. Kyokushinkai is related to goju ryu lol. And even with Shotokan. Lol. And kata are similar. Shotokan is made up of several Tote schools. The division into styles has been condemned by many, starting with Funakoshi. What desecration are you talking about?

Me, being dan holder in all 3 of those styles( yes I am that old) can tell the difference, so the “desecration” I am referring to is Suparimpei, this Shotokan version looks more as if General Choi from Taekwondo adapted it instead of Shotokan. That’s what I am talking about, so, go, do some research on the technical aspects of Goju Ryu Suparimpei because you obviously don’t know it. That said, kata for me now (after more than 45 years in this racket) is only calisthenics. Good day.

There is consensus among expert trainers and fighters that kata is not practical for real combat and in my case, they make good warmup exercises and good for motor skill coordination and development, and for rainy days when I get bored indoors. No more, no less. As for the answer of your question if I have a level in several styles,read my previous post, the answer is there. There are 2 versions of Hyakuhachiho. This one I find less true to Superempi. Well done performance. This is NOT the Kanazawa version.
