I just got my blue 71 running the other day started for the first time in many years. A lot of your advice helped plus another video with a Windex bottle spray tube siphoning oil out of bottom crank area, but after rebuilding carbs, petcock changing a lot of fuel lines plugs and adjustments it’s now running.👍

I had one exactly like that when I was 17. As an old guy now, I would never (ever, ever) let a 17 year old anywhere near that thing. Every ride was an adventure on that beast back in the day. Many memories seeing this vid.

Thanks for the video. I remember clearly the night I went to pick up my BRAND NEW 1971 H1 up at my local dealer. It was the 16th of January 1971, and about 27 degrees, but I was warm all the way home, LOL. My Original fuse holds, the little rectangle one with the c clamp holding the haves together MELTED. I would be riding normally and the fuse would blow, I started carrying extra fuses. Found out it had a defective rotor. Should have known because it kept making the family TV all jittery.. I thought maybe it was just the CDI. but it was the rotor. I still have a Pristine Stainless Steel front fender, that I took out because that was the "Thing" back then, and an almost perfect little Gray owners manual. Most fun I ever had on a Brand new Motorcycle out the door for 1045.00 bucks, LOL.... Thanks again for the memories..

Miss a shift and you are buying that ignition rotor. Mine used to jump out of second when under power if I hit any kind of bump, so a new rotor was needed.

I worked on the Kawasaki when the H1 and H2 came out....the H1's were notorious for leaky crank seals on the crankshaft..... the indicators were they would loose all the low end they used to have, which wasn't much to begin with...….. so the seal on the primary side would leak oil and smoke more and the magneto side would leak air which would make it run hot, which would indicate on the plug...…the center seal on each side of the center rod was difficult to replace due to you'd have to press the crank apart,, if each side seal was leaking, then the center seal was leaking too,,, and they all leaked,,,I never saw one that did not…. then the overall performance would be rubbery at low end and some at mid range..... but wide open they still ran fairly well...….we replaced the two outer crank seals, which were easy,,, and left the center unless it was running poor.....H2's were much better on the seals...…...

I had a '70 H1 that had expansion chambers and K & N air cleaners when I bought it. I had to get rid of those stupid spark plugs because if it didn't start on the first kick they got wet and would never fire. Eventually I used Motorcraft platinum plugs and they worked wonderfully. I called that bike my "Death Machine" because it would go like hell and handle like shit and would not stop.

Ever since I left the military in 1976 I wanted to get some size of Yamaha RD, and wouldn't you know that today, for the first time in 20 or more years, I saw an RD 200 that looks brand new in the old Triumph dealership I used to work in. I told the owner, a friend still, that he should ride that thing and he will be impressed.
That guy started selling Triumphs out of his house in 1964 and when they ultimately went out of business, switched over to Moto-Guzzi until they wanted him to floor plan their line. Now he sells Hyosung and is doing rather well in Franklin, PA. monacohyosung.com/ Tell him Jerry Lynch sent you.

That is a beauty, a nice restoration back to original. I had a 1971 H1B Mach 3 with 3 sets of points. The tank decal is perfect and is often overlooked in paint and plastic jobs. They called it 'Laser Blend' and went from silver to blue using small silver dots. Mine was production raced tuned and was a beast. Under full acceleration, my feet would slip off the pegs! You should get 0 - 60 in 3.2 seconds and 0 - 100 in about 11 seconds. It will pick up the front wheel in first and second, slide forward pop the clutch and smoke the back wheel! Another trick is that when riding behind one, smoke from the exhausts contra-rotates due to the rotation of the back wheel and the three exhausts. Mine was in the UK and I see on the Vehicle Licensing Centre website that someone still has WTO 127J. I would love to see it again, it was a great bike. I have a 1971 Motor Cycle magazine in the garage with an H1 road test in it. Thanks for the great memories, nice job.

Have you ever seen one of those?Never owned a bike till I was 40.I remember I was used to being on the back and became pas-ah about wheelies.Loved the bogged down sound it made as it got to that critical 5 thou thru to 7 thou rpm. power band.

My very first street bike was a 2 stroker, a Yamaha 200 electric. It would blow off XL350's!!! I had to carry extra plugs cause it would fowl out about every hundred miles or so. I finally put a little hotter plug in it and that helped a little but it would still fowl out after a while. I love the sound of these old strokers and I sure do miss that one of mine. Nice job restoring this old beauty.

    OOW right up my alley.
Got a question for you, my S1 revs right up as soon as its started (4000-5000 and then keeps climbing) I can't seem to figure out whats causing it. I've played with the points to no avail, carbs are set to Kawasaki service manual specification. Bought some keyster carb kits to rebuild the carbs and see if that fixs it but I'm wondering if you got any pointers for me essentially

I think restoration and maintenance basically have the same value and purpose. If a bike or whatever has not been maintained for a while, it needs a lot of attention, and so the term restore is used. Some say restoring items ruins their value. I don't buy into that. It's catching up on maintenance in my opinion. If my motorcycle has worn parts or loses paint I replace them with new parts and paint. I also accept replacing points ignintion with electronics on older bikes as we used to do that back in the early '70s too when they were new.
