Glad you're enjoying the videos! I'd say drawing from life is really helpful and if you mix it with stuff that you like to draw you tend to improve faster too! For me I really love drawing fantasy stuff - monsters, elves, magic stuff so I try and mix the two together to make stuff more interesting😊 Good luck!

This is awesome. I’ve been renaming instances then duplicating and using it as a kind of palette in the timeline to copy and paste mouth shapes from but I really like the sound of your brush palette option
Turning the mouthshapes into a brush is a game changer! I still use the happy and sad shapes as a reference when the mouth design/teeth are different too :) glad it helped!

Just what I was looking for. As someone thats been trying to transition from flash to tvpaint i was struggling to do lipsyncing. Thanks for showing the work around!
That's great, I'm so glad it helped! I used flash for a short while but about three years ago I started using tvpaint and never looked back :) If you haven't checked out my tutorial on how to make and use the anim brush th-cam.com/video/czLz5lvkGAM/w-d-xo.html it has instructions on how to turn multiple mouth shapes into a single brush which you might find useful :)

Hi I want to start an animation and wanted to ask would you recommend using a mouse or getting a graphics tablet?
You can use either though a graphics tablet is easier and I've found it's a lot faster (could never get used to my mouse for drawing). They don't have to be super expensive, I'd definitely recommend checking out Huion, Monoprice and Wacom (Wacom are a lot more pricey though!). Hope this helps!

Not sure it's possible to save them all as one since I'm pretty sure that's tvpaint specific, though you might be able to create separate brushes for each shape and use it like that?

When I opened your PDF file I saw something weird about the "ch and sh" mouths...
For those that sees this as a problem, no worries...
Just reduce the width of the mouth surely can help that.

I made a tutorial on how to animate in Krita (on my channel if you're interested) :) I use TVPaint 11 Pro which I bought on the student license when I was at uni, so much cheaper!

The good thing about puppet/rigging software is that you can just swap them out in the rig and don't have to redraw every frame. I need to make an updated video of this tutorial since in TVPaint you can draw all the mouth shapes and compile them in a single brush. Glad you liked the video :)

So I've been trying to lip sync characters but it's not always that perfect. Can you give me some tips?
P.S: I don't know about my parents, but I really want to get that microphone thingy so I can record more clearer. Also, I don't have a microphone. :(
I'm currently working on videos that show the basics of 'how to animate', first one coming Friday! there'll be more posted as I finish them this year! You don't need a fancy mic - you can record with a phone too, they've improved a lot!

Do the audio and video stay synced after export? I find that in a lot of animation programs I use they never sync very well

I use TVPaint 11 pro which I’d recommend for the layer blending modes and CTG layer which helps a lot with colouring animations, BUT it is much more expensive. I bought it when I was a student because they do great discount so if you’re a student (or know someone who is 👀😅) then I’d definitely go for that. The standard version is still really good and TVPaint have a feature comparison table if you google it which might help you decide on what version to get. I’d definitely recommend making use of their free trial to make sure you’re going to get on with the program since the license is pretty expensive (though you own it forever so works out cheaper in the long run). Hope this helps 😅✨
@@kdsketch this actually helps a lot, I've always had to export my work into after effects just for the layer blending effect. I personally hate after effects because it chugs and crashes constantly. Layer blending is worth the extra dosh.

What is the best frame rate for lip sync?
higher than 15fps but I've only ever worked on 24 or 25 so best to experiment and see which works for you. It might be difficult to get more mouth shapes/precision with a lower frame rate jsyk

Even when using my phone to record, my voice sounds quiet. I think I might need a microphone unless there’s another way I can make my voice sound louder without a microphone. 😕
You can boost the audio if you take it into audacity, plenty of tutorials on how that works on TH-cam :)

Ok I need this is spanish, because its pronunciations are easy
So you don’t use the letter r because you have no mouth position for it
I either use the small O, T, or sometimes even an E shape for it depending on the accent. Hope this helps 😊

I tried doing animation but it went terrible 😂😂😂 I'm gonna attempt to make another animation (my third ever animation) and see if it's better then the other monsters
😂 I felt the same when I first started but doing something simple like a bouncing ball or a walk cycle really helped
What if u don’t want to draw teeth or tounges
Some of the mouth shapes might be a bit difficult (especially for T sounds) but there's ways around it. You could test out lipsync with the overall shape of the mouth but filled in black/dark red to see if it works :)

Not quite sure what you mean by autodraw but as for free animation software there's Krita, Sketchbook has a 'flipbook' function on the pc/mac version which is pretty good. there's also Synfig. If you're looking for apps I'd recommend Rough Animator (also has pc/mac version) which is only £5-10? Hope this helps :)

So it’s not stealing to reference off other ppls lip sync cuz you said you reference off others
If you copy someone exactly and dont credit them or ask permission that’s stealing. If you reference the mouth shapes but change them to fit your style and credit/ask permission it’s fine

I used tutorials which are generally showing you how to do it, then I referenced from adventure time and steven universe and mixed with my own style - could hardly ask permission from the whole crew lmao. If it's an individual artist (who hasn't made a tutorial on how to make mouth shapes like in this video) then you should ask for permission, and be prepared for them to say no. Some artists don't like to be 'copied'.

What do you mean? Like adding a clip beside a character or having a cut in an animation? If I’m editing a video I use the free version of davinci resolve and have everything on separate layers in there so I can adjust everything to how I want it

Oh, I realized that I set up the audio with my headphones at 1%, so it is a bit quiet, but I can hear the sound. Maybe it’s because I posted it in the U.S.? Anyway, thanks for the feedback.
Ah it might have just been my phone, I just played it through on my laptop and it looks good! I'd say have a guide (like a mark on a new layer) for where the top lip of the mouth is going to be so it's a bit more consistent in position :)
