Here are Americans' favorite Chinese dishes: chow mein, Kung Pao chicken, hot and sour soup, egg rolls, Broccoli Beef, and General Tso's chicken. I searched further online and found that, except chow mein and Kung Pao chicken, the Chinese dishes preferred by most Americans are not the most popular dishes in China too. The data from the New York Public Library and what I found online about the popular dishes in China reveal two things: 1. When it comes to Chinese cuisine, foreigner and Chinese DO display very different preferences. 2. It more or less affirms what this Iraqi food blogger said: the Chinese dishes that foreigners like are not known to many Chinese. 😄 This is hardly a surprise.
