    About me:
    I've been making short films for 20 years, starting at age 11. I directed my first feature film, Bad is Bad, in 2010. Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. I also work as a video editor, cutting ads for clients such as Apple, Netflix, and Beats by Dre.

    I didn't realize it was his pop-pop who died on first viewing. I thought he had said "Your pop" so to me, the short was about a man who stepped in as a father figure when the boys father died and in the end, we see how much that meant to him. Great short, both ways.

  • @ponzee22

    That was a great short film. Especially the end, where it would have been an easy lay up to make the audience happy, by having the mc throw away his cigarettes. But him continuing to smoke, despite all he knows, is more aligned with the human condition of self destructiveness. Almost like a surprise ending.

    • @Selrisitai
      @Selrisitai ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought it was more aligned with his remembering his father. I guess it does make sense that he knows it'll kill him, as it killed his father, but he can't stop.

    Gonna be honest the cinematography and production quality of this short film done BY YOURSELF I swear is like x10 better than half the films and TV shows edited together and made today, the close ups, quality, mood and atmosphere works so nicely, even the depth of field and focus. All on point and a lovely film in general. :) Keep it up!

    Nicely done Kent! That was enjoyable and I kept rewinding particular scenes to see those great shots. The first lighter transition for one, was clever.

    I like the underlying idea or suggestion that we rely on self-destructive substances to kill the pain, thus perpetuating an endless cycle of grief and self-destruction. But I also like how on top of that is the emotional story of the relationship between a father figure and an adopted son.

    Wanted to add that the kid, Dylan, reminded me of Jean-Pierre Léaud from "The 400 Blows". Looked a bit like him, and even more so, the quiet way he carried himself.

    The story has given me a lot of reflection on how sad reality is but knowing that makes it more sense to act. The cinematography is great and aligned with the story and the sound design is one of my favourites. The only thing I will put is just make it a little more like be in high levels of pressure on the character. But that's me. Overall great film.

    Wow!!! What a great short. Firstly, the sound is on point...clarity, depth, and sound level. sooooooo good. The lighter, and that raccoon...fantastic ornamentation. The use of different speeds really worked. Good actors. The visuals were well-lit, with good coloring. Edits and angles made 2(1/2) locations very interesting. And of course, there is a good continuity of the boy-to-man theme. What a gem. This film would be a good template for teaching new filmmakers how to make a wonderful short with minimal elements. Cheers!!! You guys put in some nice work.

    So glad to find your channel. This was very well done and quite inspiring for my own work. Question: the Louis Armstrong music, how did you get that given your small budget? And the racoon def gave a lot of production value! How many days and how many hours per day did you plan for and actually shoot?

Amazing work mate :) I watched your tips for making a short film on your own too and it really inspired me to get back into filmmaking after filming and editing corporate videos professionally for 5 years, and only doing actor showreels every now and again in my spare time. Just itching to get out there on a weekend and film a script! Thank you! :D

    Bravo! [as an avid collector of lighters - thank you]! Every shot - /transition/edit - is awesome. My favorite comes early: the second hand sweeping of the vintage dash clock... That is all time bad-ass! Next: The interior-to-exterior with the racoon shots are knockout! [Where did you find the live coon actor, we had three racoons growing up]!?

    I liked the cinematography and the raccoon but it felt kind of meaningless not to say there was no meaning my interpretation was something along the lines of the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree seeing close people with him smoke influencing him to smoke but I feel like you should have said that in the film if that was the narrative. I could be wrong though and if I am I would like to know what that meaning is and the moral for it? Thank you for uploading and I really do like it.

      The protagonist lights up in his moment of grief not only because he wants something to connect him to his father and grandfather, but also because a part of him wants to speed up the reunion. At least that's what I got from it. I thought it was a beautiful illustration of how irrational love can be, and how powerful symbols and traditions of any kind can be.
