Everyone keeps arguing over what is Psychobilly and what isn't! Why can't people just either listen to it and enjoy it, or turn it off if you don't like it. All I know is that I love Psychobilly and Tiger Army is my favorite Psychobilly band :)
Thanks! I don't think most fans would agree that Tiger Army doesn't play Psychobilly music. they just don't play exclusively Psychbilly.. I do agree that bands like the Blasters, Meteors and many more were the original pioneers. However Psychobilly is still a relatively young and growing music genre and Tiger Army opened up the genre to a wider audience and whether you think that is good or bad that doesn't mean it isn't significant. That is why we refer to them as pioneers.
Agreed indeed. There is even a BIG difference in the U.S. between East Coast and West coast psychobilly. I like the variety and the different styles and can't wait to get to Europe to sample some hardcore psychobilly first hand.
My favorite psychobilly band from the east coast is a band called "The Memphis Morticians" (from Brooklyn not Memphis) and there should be a video of them performing somewhere on this channel.. The scene on the east coast is smaller than the west coast. West coast you have more bands. "Nekromantix" and "Horrorpops", (Dutch origins I think) are good. One of my faves is "Calavera" (also on the channel). Latinos are a bigger influence on west coast psychobilly. I'll have to check Resurex out more
Long "hard" road? You kidding? Haha! There is no doubt that Nick13 can write music, but being best friends with Davey havoc and being handed a record deal, and then immediately touring with one of mainstream-punk's biggest acts (Social Distortion) isn't exactly a long hard road. Stray Cats, Levi Dexter and the Rockats... those guys did it right. You want really good psychobilly? Long Tall Texans, The Quakes, The Sharks, Batmobile. There you go :-)
@s14atdi They toured with Social Distortion 5 years after they got their first record came out. I'm not sure why you consider that "immediately". Also if you're calling SD "mainstream", then Stray Cats would be "mainstream" as well..
@Ynnadodgers Hey man, I know what you are saying. Maybe what I said came off as pretentious, but I just meant to say that Nick13 had a record deal before he knew how to play guitar and sing at the same time. True story. A hard road would be selling your stuff to buy plane tickets to risk it all, starving. Do I consider the Stray Cats mainstream? Absolutely! I could hear Stray Cats and Social Distortion songs at the local Applebee's my good man. That's not a bad thing, good for them!!
@PunkOutlawTV Anything that sounds or tries to emulate the The Misfits style with a hopped standup bass unfortunately is classified so... Tiger Army stands seperate though older albums fit the genre... Still even now they are unclassifiableand unique... They need something that will yet surprise us and country is not it... Hold your ground Tiger Army
@maggiemusicboxx horrorpops have only really written one political song which was boot2boot, i personally wouldnt have said they have an agenda. misfit i agree with, just horror-punk really
Not sure why you think I'm not keeping my cool. Pretty sure I was having an adult debate about a music genre, that was all. Anyway, can't see where you got these "rules" from. The only one I know of is to keep Politics out of the scene, coined by the M3T3ORS. But of course, the Meteors do indeed have songs about love! As do Guana Batz and so many more british Psychobilly bands.
I don't really see where you are coming from here. What mainstream trends do TA follow? I don't know any bands in the mainstream like them (TA is not in the mainstream, unless you have a different view on what the mainstream is).. Psychobilly was indeed around 16 years before TA. Though I fail to see how America "ripped it off" with the description you say. The Quakes, who were probably the first American Psycho band in the 80s, did not fall under this umbrella...
Anyway, I don't get that knock on TA. There has always been different shades & styles to Psycho, whether it was in the Americas or the UK. Does American Psycho suck most of the time? You betcha! But you cannot deny that there have been UK releases far poppier/depressing/"whiny" than that of TA. Also, TA *do* claim Psychobilly, but to the extent that they play it THERE way, like everyone should.
Saw them last week and they’re still awesome! ❤
I first heard tiger army when I was 17 I'm now 36 still love em
Saw them last night in SA, TX and still amazing!

TAND!!!
So then every English band that sings about a broad that broke their heart is NOT Psychobilly?! Songs about heart break are not allowed?
