you can fire overwatch at anyone going into close combat. you have to stat it before your opponent moves. on page 111 at the bottom last paragraph.

At ~13 minutes the Russian Infantry went into CC with the Americans. The Americans, as defenders, fired first. Putting hits on the Russian infantry.
You then rolled quality checks and removed stands.
But I thought you only rolled quality checks for Infantry at the end of the phase and accumulated -1 modifiers to that roll for each hit you took in the phase. Why did the stands test quality at that point and not at the end of the Movement Phase?

look at page 44. A stand can take a maximum of one quality check per close combat round.
Close combat quality checks take place at the end of each close combat round. you roll at the end of each round of combat until only one side survives.

Don’t the soviets have to take unit QCs at some point?

Hi Monte Moore. Ultimately, they will need to at some point. However, the Soviet-style forces use a battalion as a Combat Unit. The BTR Motor Rifle Battalion, especially with attached Support Units, is one of the toughest units to break - you pretty well have to annihilate it to make it test. With 9 armed APCs, 9 armed dismounted infantry stands, 3 tanks and a mortar (ignoring the truck, as it's not armed), leads to 22 stands. 75% of these must be lost to QCs or KOs to force a unit check... that's 16 stands: pretty much all of the tanks and 2/3 of the infantry and their APCs...

@@miniaturewargamingnz6118 I guess that is one way to look at it. I'm not sure I would interpret that the same way. Have you confirmed with the rules developers? I find it rather surprising to see the wheeled APCs continue an assault into a built-up area after their infantry support basically vanished. That's my view anyway. YMMV

These look like the most awful set of rules. Slow and hugely overcomplicated.
