Vol fan here and attended the game. Not going to beat around the bush. OU defense is damn good. Intense from the jump with no quit. With a decent offense you guys might be unstoppable. Sometimes these 5 star players just don’t translate in college. It’s happened many times. Great hospitality in Norman and good luck rest of season.

Loved what Josh mentioned about needing to have our guys play like “dawgs”. Applying this to recruiting, we need to target players with “dawg-like” tendencies. You can make a player more polished with coaching. It’s hard to develop want-to and and aggressiveness. Great segment guys!

Hawkins impressed me with 2 plays. 1) the laser he threw to pettaway showed me his arm talent. 2) on the play when he scrambled to almost get into the end zone, he took a deeper drop, which stretched the defense. This intelligent move created more space for him to run.

This is an idiotic premise. You would be asking every coach in America, to just not mention the incident, when recruiting against Oklahoma. That isn't how mankind operates. If he is such a great coach, and what he did is so forgivable, why is he unemployed? Literally his own brother is a football coach, and has not hired him. It doesn't matter what Cale deserves; it matters what programs deserve, and his own brother doesn't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

Based on Hawkins Jr.'s stats playing two quarters during the Tennessee game, if we copy those to the first three games and to Future games too, here is what his stats would have or could look like.🤭
    .
Now on the stats I gave him two touchdowns for TN game, since the referees took away the one that was 2 inches short, which was bullshit. But this would balance out anyways since the first three opponents were powder cake teams somewhat. I am just trying to get a "general idea" as to what his stats could have looked like or would look like based on what he has done during the two quarters against Tennessee, which the experts claim is a national championship caliber defense:
    .
    - Passing yards: 3,168
    - Rushing yards: 528
    - TDs: 48
    - Pass completion %: 70
    - Turnovers: 0

The truth is that Venables didn't do what was not only best for the team, but also didn't do what was best for Arnold.
He should have done whatever it took to bring Gabriel back which would have allowed Arnold to continue to develop behind a veteran QB.
Everyone also has to remember that there were whispers all off season that Arnold was struggling and that Hawkins was consistently outplaying Arnold. Again, Venables had a choice to make and let the fear of losing Arnold dictate what he did, rather than do whatever was best for the team
I also think promoting Littrell was a massive mistake, he doesn't have the resume to be running the university of Oklahomas offense..
This is ALL on Venables, he is the head coach.

He committed to Jeff Lebby and the Lebby System and Seth Littrel abandoned the system and has installed something that no one on the offensive side of the ball can comprehend. Furthermore he has lost his QB coach and has an analyst coaching him now. So many players are not performing well. Sharp can't block anyone, the o-line is really bad, the wide receivers can't block or run routes, and the quarterback play has been pathetic.
Yet I believe the biggest problem with this team is who is chosen to play. It's like the coaches have their "favorites" and no one else gets a chance. Why won't they play Carreon, Hicks, Mitchell, EPL and others. I think some firings on the coaching staff need to happen. Venables is a Defensive coordinator, not a head coach. Joe John Finley should get fired for the outrageously bad tight end room for the last 2 years, Murray can't seem to coach the running back room. Watch how many plays an offensive lineman blocks NO ONE, literally NO ONE. Like O-line air guitar. They've used the injury excuses long enough. How the coaches thought Jackson Arnold could play SEC Football as quarterback is MIND BOGGLING, that's on the coaches. Poor decision making from the coaching staff is showing it's ugly head.

Jackson has had way too many turnovers and mistakes in the last 4 games......you haven't watched enough games if you think we should've kept him in. Now is he the only offensive issue OU has? Nope. But you can't turnover the ball like that in 1 game....

At this point just do the good old abc gap on the blindside and 1/2/3 on the backside. Make the blocking scheme simple in the passing game. Run regular old 24,25,26,27,28,29 and some trap in the 21,22. Just make it simple because clearly these guys are too stupid to do anything more

I hate to rain on everyone’s parade but you guys gotta understand that Tennessee pulled many defensive starters in the second half. I really thought Hawkins was very limited until they let him start running a little bit and getting a groove. He’s a Rhythm quarterback that got into a groove against second and third stringers that needed the reps. I don’t think he has the same success next week because he looks easy to prep for to my untrained eye. He can run and has heart so that always helps but you know still…

Hawkins doesn't fix anything. He was white eyed, scared to death, and running for his life. He was terrible to. Not that I think it's Hawkins fault. Our OL is TERRIBLE. Our WR is TERRIBLE. Our TEs are TERRIBLE! We need a platoon QB

However, don't think this is going to change anything because our total offense is THAT bad. Also Tennessee ran the ball all second half.
