- Danger! Danger! This summer is in danger of becoming similar to 2021 when blight wiped out all the tomato plants before most of the fruit could ripen. We're hoping that won't happen again. Most things are doing well, and the beans and lettuce have loved this cooler, wetter spell. The potato yield has improved since last year, which we're putting down to the weekly liquid feeds. A lot of the berry bushes are either finished or towards the end of their fruiting, which has provided a bumper crop. Most of the fruit trees are struggling, with the exception of the Red Love, Merton Knave and the gage. There is one fruit on the pear tree, and about four on the Victoria plum and pluot (we harvested the first fruit today, which seemed quite good). All our leeks are in, the sweetcorn and parsnips are progressing well, and we recently planted out sprouts, swede and spinach. If Mother Nature behaves, 2023 could be a pretty good year.
