I hope you have a good time! We have many students (in fact about 20% of the whole population) so many people know english well and don't care if you're a foreigner. I cannot comment on the muslim food, but I'm sure there are some markets in Gries / Lend Area which has many arabic people. Bus or Train depends on where you want to go mostly, just take the connection that is best. Inner city is not that big so you might want to get a bike if you live there. Taxi is expensive but it's fine every now and then.
