Amazing comeback. I didn’t expect that, I thought Dees were done. They were helped by Lions trying trying to defend their lead for a whole third of the quarter lol, but it was classy football by Melbourne. It wasn’t rushed, panic. They were composed and thought their way through it. So happy for Melksham - he was pivotal in the last 7 minutes. Took a big contested mark that allowed for Kossy’s goal, and had those 2 clutch goals. Gawn and “he’s never going back to the midfield” Trac were outstanding. Daniher was excellent for Lions. It was an interesting game - pendulum slowly swung to Lions, and then back to Dees with the epic finish
Epic! Epic! Epic! Both teams led by margins of 20+ points at various stages of this match. It reminds me of the Round 4, 2017 MCG epic between Melbourne and Fremantle, where that result was crucial as Melbourne missed the Finals that year. Anyway, back to 2023, what a thriller! What greatness. Also, I'm confused as to who marked it just before the final buzzer, unless it was a free kick to the Melbourne player for a high contact. This was, so far, the Game of the Year, unless next week's top-of-the-table clash between Port Adelaide and Collingwood surpasses this.
8:03 it was Levers mark but pretending for a second that Hipwood marked it instead, it would be a free against him for putting Lever in a headlock during the marking contest. Great nail biting finish.
Not only that, but it was clearly a free kick to lever as well. Lever did admit that he wasn't trying to mark, but was trying to spoil. Doesn't matter though. He got first touch on the ball clearly and had possession the whole time.
@@imalwaysright yeah that was pretty dumb of may... he's a great defender, but he can make some really bad decisions. His passing has been really questionable at times
@@imalwaysright the silly part was he didn't even need to do it to win the contest. He ended up taking the mark a metre or 2 back from where the push occurred and I believe it was danniher already had too much forward momentum.
Whether it was a call from Fage's or just a shift in team mentality of getting too comfortable after hitting the 100, pretty embarrassing to watch that score line even up. With how dynamic the modern game is the way to win close games is to keep the foot on the gas regardless of how far ahead you are. It's why Collingwood are top, and also why Ange is managing Tottenham now.
I love my Pies but we're very susceptible to taking our foot off the gas when we're in the lead. Been many games this year where we've let the opposition claw themselves back in.
@melburnmt7320 mate you're top of the ladder, Richmond did the same thing for 4 years straight and got 3 flags out of it. No point going hammer risking injury when you have a 5 to 6 goal lead in the 4th but you don't become complacent like Brisbane did that's the difference. Opposition always come back into the game when you release the pedal a bit just don't do a Brisbane and put your foot on the brake. They lost that game Melbourne didn't win it, Brisbane gifted it to them with utter cockiness and complacency. Atleast you're not in that boat and that's because of smart coaching from Dimmas prodigy. You have the best coach in the league right now and he learnt from the best just as Dimma did hence why I'm hoping we keep McQualter.
Don’t you love seeing these young guns back themselves in. Ashcroft 3:02, Fletcher 3:15, Woewodin 4:23. Incredible goals , Woewodin only in his second game, Ashcroft and Fletch showing their brilliance yet again. Fletch’s only played 5 games. Have to mention Zac Bailey as well because his footworks too good not to highlight 4:52 😩😩😩😩😩

“Brisbane can’t play at the G” “Brisbane choked” Blah, blah, blah… People forgetting Melbourne also led by 5 goals to 1, right? No Fritsch, No Oliver, No Hibberd - who usually does a great job on Cameron. Brisbane still lost. 😂😂😂
Both teams have a lot to work on heading into the final games of the season while the top 2 teams have set themselves apart from the rest in top 8. Brisbanes ability to flick the switch and throw on goals during the 2nd and the 3rd is something that shouldn't be overlooked but their fall away in the 4th would be worrying to Fagan.
Besides the Swans and Bulldogs game the other night, this was another excellent match. Good for the Demons as this gives them a better chance at playing finals.
@@itookallthenamesclearly lever took possession at the start of the contest and had possession long enough to count as a mark. Also it was a free kick to lever, so it doesn't matter.

this year's brownlow race will be incredible, daicos, petracca, neale, dawson
Butters too
Marcus Bontempelli had many standout games as well.
Zach Merrett would be up there had he not been suspended for a normal tackle
imo neale sucks
taranto maybe
What an amazing game that was
The cheek of Hipwood to even attempt to claim that as a mark. He literally just ripped it out of Lever's hands after Lever had already marked it.
Not only that, but it was clearly a free kick to lever as well.

I'm a Dees fan but a different camera angle may show a mark for Hipwood if it werent for the headlock
Gawn was much better without Grundy on the field. Worst trade for melbounre
It is interesting now isn't it, to bring Grundy back in will have to take out JVR or Ben Brown?
