even if she did darken her skin, kpop idols always get their skin lightened, its only a problem when its darkened??? she looks great and shes thai, her skin is naturally tan too
The funniest thing about it is that even in Korea, a lot of people are naturally tanned! There's quite a few Koreans where I live and they are all at least 3 shades darker then a lot of Kpop idols due to the skin lightening industry. It's really sad.
@@katelyn4985THIS! most Korean idols are also victims of whitewashing, not just Lisa because of being somewhat darker. But I do agree the photographer enhanced the dark skin because Lisa doesn't appear as tan in the rockstar video.

This is a common thing when it comes to lisa people love to hate on her just because she's a foreigner and not Korean very often getting called fat and getting racist comments thrown at her it's crazy
She's also naturally dark if people had bothered to look at her younger photos before they made a claim she's blackfishing. If anything they really whitewashed her in Korea.

True, we can also have the same skintone with zendaya 😂 look at denise julia. They called her blackfishing when in fact she was darker before and her real skintone is brown (tan)
I was in southeast asia for 4 months so I find it funny too. People there are naturally darker, and are also intentional about wearing sunscreen and hats. No one is trying to be darker than they naturally are.
im a southeast asian, and i gotta say my skin tone really depends on lighting. im neither light or dark, just neutral lol. sometimes i look light skinned, in some photos i look tanned. generally im considered light skinned but can look tanned esp under flash or dark lighting.
I'm considered light skinned as a mulatto (pls, white people, you don't have to explain to me the term and your poc). But, you know, being mixed.... Happens! But, I'm not white, and as I see it, white people are light skinned because we are all a shade of brown, anyways. 😂

just because she has a darker skintone, doesn't mean she's blackfishing. There's a clear difference between being tan and Black that Hispanics, Asians, and some Europeans have to deal with hate about being tan everyday. Not everything has to do with Black people, and that comes from a Black person. And, so what if she gets a tan? Or the colors a darkened. K-pop idols damage their skin and hair to look paler and have ghost white skin everyday and nothing but praise comes to them. Stop being hypocrotes and let Lisa embrace being Thai.✌🏿
A lot of people saying she shouldn’t be that dark even for a thai idol after being whitewashed hella hard for years, but dang i know a lot of dark asians out there including myself im quite light and tan during colder months but when its summer i go dark dark. Like crispy dark so asian skin tone varies just like other ethnic groups. People should be worried about the hate they have in their own hearts than attacking people they know nothing about.
I personally think that isn't even her true skin tone. If she's tanning fine, but I hope it's not used as a concept. Is it blackfishing? No. Is the fault on the photographer? No. If the photographer has a certain style, I'm sure Lisa/ her company reviewed the photographer's portfolio and was hired for said reason.
I know she is Thai but not all Thai and south east asians are dark either. Asians come in all different colors. I don’t care though. Its her choice but she wasn’t that dark even before debut.
She's not blackfishing, she is using dark skin to match her concept and the fatc that she is wearing grills is the cherry on top. She also uses blaccents and copies black american culture for money, yet when she is with her billionaire boyfriend she has pale skin dressed up as an elitist white woman. People like her steal from other cultures only for money.
Fairly sure that was the aim. Also I'd take a hunch here and besides upped saturation, her skin probably just looks a bit more intense due to the surrounding white. We literally perceive colours differently in other surrounding shades
I think the photographer might’ve edited the photo for her skin to be a bit darker, but I don’t think it’s entirely just editing. I’m SEA, as well as from Thailand, and she’s honestly pretty close to my skin color and others I know. I think it’s a mix of her just being a bit tanned (and previously heavily whitewashed), as well as the photographers editing style which makes her look darker.
As an artist, it's frustrating how many people do not understand how different the same skin tone can look just from changing the lighting. The lighting is obviously highly contrasted and dark, and they especially wanted to increase the contrast of her skin to emphasize the glitter/shininess of her skin because that's the makeup style and aesthetic they were going for. If they did not increase the contrast, you would not notice how strong the shimmer of the highlighter is that the makeup artist wanted to emphasize. This is especially obvious in the nose highlight.
not to mention it’s a white background which would make the colors a lot darker or appear different 😭 why some painters use an underpainting so the white canvas doesn’t mess with the colors tones 💀
This. The amount of times I've seen people flamed for white washing when if you look at the set they have 8 pure white spotlights on them. There are actual issues of white washing/black fishing but they get drowned out from crap like this
It’s not her natural skin tone and there’s nothing wrong with her having darker skin for this photoshoot. She’s Thai and definitely not black fishing or disrespecting anyone though. A countless amount of Thai people have skin that dark and she herself is Thai. Not everyone with darker skin is black and she’s just having the skin tone of many other Thais and SEA people for this photoshoot. It is a stylistic choice for her to have darker skin here, like how pretty much every K-pop idol is whitewashed in photos.
It not her natural skin tone so YES she is black fishing. ARE YOU DUMB? LIKE ARE YOU DUMB? i think people forget that black people aren't the only ones with darker skin tones 💀 it's uncommon for koreans yes but she's south east asian, where it's common to have tan skin...
yeaaa it really rubs me the wrong way. mainly because the most opinions I see on this topic are from black people on tiktok saying "Lisa was always a melanin girl like us. She's always been so blackcoded, we always knew and supported her" Like?? No one happens to remember the hate she got when she wore braids now that they "claim" her. (Sorry for the mini rant)
It's not just the skintone that rubs me the wrong way, though. It's the combination of skin-tone AND black aesthetic. It feels like a new level of appropriation. Similar to what Arianna Grande does.
why is everyone always calling everything blackfishing or CA??? do yall know what that is????? we ALL know shes thai, shes never pretended to be anything but that
@@BowdowntoAnnaConda even then, she’s not blackfishing. yea the styling is very much like a black woman in the 90’s, but it’s a reach for people to say it’s blackfishing or that she’s trying to be black. she is pretty tan (not that tan tho), so she could very well be appearing darker due to her skin tone and the contrast on the photo. from what i’ve heard, that’s the style of pictures that that photographer has🤷🏽♀️
Lisa is not very very white . But it's beige skin tone . I really think beauty standards make idols feel insecure about themselves. They try to lighten their skin tone. But wtf is this ? You should love what god gave you. Every skin tone is beautiful.❤
That’s the photographer’s style. He makes hi def photos with contrasting colors to highlight the color pop. No one looking at the photo thinks that’s a black woman.

Lisa JUST dropped her dance practice video and guess what... Her skintone is STILL lighter than the promo picture, y'all really need to stop being lap dogs and admit she only darkened her photos for PROMO. For crying out loud, we know idols in kpop or have experience within that category darkened their skintone to FIT a theme. @@justin6065 They're talking about how people won't admit it. It's weird to bleach your skin, and tan (white girls are getting backlashed) and this is coming from a tan girl. A real one lol
@Lisa-oi8lh and?? Again we understand the beauty standard is to artificially lighten skin for PROMO. But it's only a problem if it's done to maker her darker (?). People enhance color in photos all the time anyways in the industry, so again, why is it an issue when it's not even neccesarily to make her look darker but to increase contrast.
Southeast Asians, like those from the Philippines and Thailand, typically have brown skin. What is fascinating about our skin is its remarkable adaptability. When deprived of sunlight, our skin becomes lighter, similar to that of Japanese and Koreans. Conversely, with frequent sun exposure, our skin darkens. This adaptability is completely normal, allowing someone like Lisa to have either lighter or darker skin.
And? She's been performing for years with a skin 2 or 3 tones lighter than her own. But no one has problems with that, apparently it only works in the opposite direction, I see I see

Y’all can’t gate keep filters. She’s Thai, she can be naturally pale and tan very easily. Go to Thailand for a minute, it’s lovely and you’ll see a majority of Thais except for the young adults and teens, are extremely tan. This is the same type of filters black artists or darker skinned Hispanics might use, it’s only an issue when a lighter skinned person uses it. If she was always that tan no one would care they made her tanner with that filter. Not all filters are meant to change the persons skin tone to start a conversation. Sometimes the overall vibe fits your request :/
@@keyzplease3220 it’s not the skin color that’s the vibe, it’s the color of the whole thing. Using a certain color scheme for filter is normal, a lot of people do it.

i don' even bother anymore cause i feel like it's just american audience saying that, yall really like to talk about skin colour, cause it's well known fact that asian people really are having issues with "being too dark" cause of the beauty standards
I do think this is a combination of things. The first thing being that, Lisa simply isn’t as light as she is portrayed in k-pop media. She is from Thailand, and has been filming there recently it’s natural for her to be more tan. I also believe the second factor is the actual photos and their settings. Lighting plays a huge factor in the way a subject is viewed. I believe the photographers style plus a tan is probably making her look darker than we usually see her. Either way, she looks really good lol
Go to rural (insert Asian country) you will find people with her complexion. I live in rural Japan. That complexion looks natural to me. Black is beautiful!✨
Thai people tan like crazy when they're under the sun if you look at old photos of her you'llsee it, that combined with the fact that the photographer has a very saturated style
I always think people with dark skin but still beautiful are luckey even with white skin which people consider beautiful clean something many fail to stood out like me 😢
It’s not just the skin it’s also the styling. As a black woman I immediately was uncomfortable when I saw the picture. There’s a difference between embracing your real skin color and whatever this was. Especially when the next time she needs to go to a big fashion event she will likely be pale again. When you try to imitate another culture to look cool, but then when you want to be respected, classy, and elegant, you dress as something else that’s when I start to 👀
It's so funny that you think you own skin tones so funny that you think you can gatekeep skintones yeah she is tanned and not as much in the picture but bronzer exists photo editing style exist she isn't appropriating your culture that's such a dumb statement to make and styling its freakin crop top with white jeans educate yourselves please it ain't that hard
You know Southeast Asians come in a spectrum of colors though? It only means none of you know what Southeast Asians looks like 🤦🏻♀️ also that is bronzing, lighting and editing
what’s wrong with it? The skin is not black so she’s not black fishing. She’s also not a white woman. She’s always been tanned. As evidenced by her childhood photos before she came to Korea. Or even the photos of her on holiday she posted recently. She’s tanned. She’s always been tanned a because she a Thai woman. The fact that Koreans have whitewashed her for decades is the real problem here. The fact that YG may have asked her to bleach her skin so that she could be closer to Korean beauty standards is the real problem here. The fact that the photo is overexposed is the trademark of the photographer. Nothing wrong with that.
I dont see it as black fishing but the issue is people use dark skin for edginess. others are born and naturally maintain color. Yea she's Thai but after skin bleaching she's not going to randomly get this much color back. thats the issue. Skincolor being a statement of good/bad angelic and edgy. She looks great but that wasn't the image she introduced herself to us with. this is also a filter so... very intentional a stylistic choice that could be seen as problematic when promoting edginess
She’s Thai, and most of my Asian friends tan reaaallly well (and beautifully too). It’s natural and there’s nothing wrong with her being her natural self.
I think people are making such a big deal out of nothing. Idols frequently get their skin lightened then why is it a big deal when it’s darkened! It can also possibly be her actual skin tone and if it is then Iam proud of her for embracing it
Y'all will say anything to defend her. Lisa's promotion photos were darker. I understand she's Thai HOWEVER in her music video she's about 2-3 shades lighter COMPARED to the actual promotion photo. Let's just admit she's using it for promo instead of "going back to her roots" "or appreciating her Thai skin tone" when the way she operates says differently.

Good point, it’s really messed up how dark skin is used for edgy, rebellious aesthetics. It’s a stereotype that dark skin=bad, dirty, uncivilized and wild. Using dark skin just to look cool only enforces that. I’m sure Lisa didn’t do that on purpose and I wouldn’t be surprised if that is her natural skin color. The issue is that she hasn’t shown it until now seemingly for aesthetics. But I hope it isn’t just for aesthetics, maybe she’s decided to embrace her natural skin tone, which would be amazing

@@auspicious6703 and your comment is insensitive and ignorant of the fact that Southeast Asian people come in a broad spectrum of skin tones. And in our turf, it's normal.
Have you any idea how easy it is to adjust skin tone in Photoshop? Especially when it’s a photoshoot when the photographer has full control over shooting angles and sources of lighting.
Honestly I think Lisa's skin tone is similar to an artist called Yuna. She had a single with Usher called Crush. She's Malaysian, a country just under Thailand. Yuna regularly returns to Malaysia, even though she's based in the US. Her skin tone always is a shade darker after she comes back from Malaysia. I think that's a factor to consider as well.
Photographer here. It's quite simple, really. It's just this specific photographer's way of doing skin treatment and coloring. He basically gives all of his subjects stylish tans. That's literally all there is to it.
People forgot the difference between what tanned skin looks like vs black skin tone well guess what black people get tanned too. If you look at getty images of lisa you will know she has white skin tone def not as white as korean’s beauty standards but she has white skin tone. Also there were few videos of her visits in thailand and she definitely don’t look this tanned so stop saying she is just tanned this is way darker for someone to be just tanned. It might be just photographer’s editing but still its way darker i have seen that photographer’s work as well compared to this picture and this picture is way too dark
C'mon man black people don't own brown skin tones even if she did fake tan at the end of the day she is looking at her ethnicity it's the damn photographer style you can clearly see the bronzer stop gatekeeping shit like it belongs to your culture

She is just so brave to show that women can be and look whatever we want to be beautiful. No need to believe in any BEAUTY STANDARD. She can get hates from asian people coz now many are following korean standards which is toxic and pain for many people who doesn’t fit in. They get people judgment. Same as when Lisa just joined as a member of blackpink and she from Thailand which is one of SEA countries. Well done darling! Thank you to say that for my beloved Lisa! Most of thai woman or Thai girls, generally we have tan skin only few people have fair skin! Me too when live in Europe for a long time I have cleared skin but when I take a sunbath and I can be tan and even dark tan in one hour! So it’s normal that Lisa have very dark tan skin! Don’t forget that before this video with her dark tan skin, she was In Samui , Thailand for shooting the American film ! Samui is famous for the sea , beautiful paradise beach! And that’s why she is very dark! Don’t forget that the western people love our dark tan skin!
I mean well, even if it's not her natural skin tone. If people can use makeup or whatever spray thing it's called to whiten their skin, why can't they make it darker too? Some people love tan, dark skin and would purchase darker foundation to pull off a certain look. I think it's fine, she looks great regardless. We need to stop being so sensitive about everyone and everything, not everything is that deep.
Firstly, Lisa is my bias, but I am not loving any of these new photos for her comeback.. the moment I saw her first one, I was put off. Just hoping the music is good 🙏🏼
it was the photographic personal artistic choice i think. lisa is tan because she is from Thailand but in those photos, that's not Lisa's natural skin tone but it doesn't matter as it was the photographer's choice.
I don’t think everything is intentional related to the race. I think it was only the vibe of the photo and to make the white in the dress and in the background stand out more. To me it gives me early 90s/ retro vibes. People have to relax and don’t argue about everything
No she's thai but ..her skin tone not even tan skin like that I'm thai and i saw many pictures of her when she was young Lisa has yellow, bright skin tone her skin more light than Local people in her hometown
The internet is just full of bullcrap people who judge immediately without considering some light research and to not go and attack people. I’m not a K-pop fan but I am aware of the culture, music, and the influence. Hating without an actual logic-reasonable explanation is just being miserable. These haters gotta worry on their much more personal things to worry about than a celebrity who clearly did nothing wrong but a promoting photoshoot. 🙂
I am a dark skinned black woman. My husband is a lighter skinned black man and his skin tone changes with the season. Spring summer and fall he is darker and in the winter he is lighter. It happens. I love it that this Asian beauty is celebrating her authentic self.
People don’t seem to realize even Asian people can get tanned. My Korean mother was around as dark as Lisa in that photo but a bit lighter, my grandmother used to work outside all the time.
I know that is lisa’s nature tone of course it could be a bit edited but I don’t think anything is wrong with saturating an image of someone with a darker skin tone then society deems acceptable, like Lisa is a baddie I don’t care if she wanted her skin to look purple as long as she is embracing herself and not harming anyone or herself which she isn’t let her go off. Go off queen 👸
We should embrace our natural skin tone. When I was younger, I grew up being blinded by media that whiter skin tone is beautiful. I am a South East Asian guy, a Filipino to be specific. I have a fairer skin tone than brown or tan because of my small percentage of Chinese and Spanish ancestry. We were blinded by the media and colonial mentality still exist in my home country. When I was growing up, I learned and appreciated and started to get attracted to tanned skin people. I see them healthy and more attractive for me. But it does not mean that I hate other skin tone. I learned and I have known how to appreciate other skin tones regardless of their race and ethnicity.
She is from Thailand, and in Thailand the people are more tanned, but I agree that the photo was edited to saturate more the colors but I don't think it fits on blackfish... It's just a way of editing the photo and highlighting her skin tone
South east asian could be black or white depending on skincare routine plus so many natural beautiful face without surgery 😂 So we usually doesn't care racism based on skin colour unless it's involving nation.
Being an Asian I am dark in the summer and a lot whiter in other seasons... Even if the lighting and makeup make Lisa darker, it does not mean she is trying to mimic a black race. Just some kind of photography arts, to make a contrast with the clothing and accessories. Very clearly the MV is to boost a Thai culture background, from Thai dancers to Thai streets. P.S. Not a fans.
The term blackfishing is being thrown around everywhere nowadays. It’s drifted to far from its original meaning that if you go under the shade, took a photo, posted it and people notice your skin I slightly darker, it’s somehow considered blackfishing. Or if you got a slight tan from the sun, it’s blackfishing. 😂
Let's face it, *Lisa* from Blackpink and *Jungkook* from BTS are those idols who need their labels way less than the labels need them. Both are the gems that outshine everyone, hence they got so many haters.
Yo yo ...she looks gorgeous as always though....people should stop this criticism...especially Korean netizens ( no offense but it's mostly some Koreans that have problems with this kinda small things, but hats off to the true Korean blinks that stay true even when some are against it) Some people should just leave her be, she is happy with what she does n it's all that matters, she's happy, we are happy 🤗
as a black person im happy to see other races with dark skin letting the beauty be captured by camera instead of being pressured to be light and bright happy for her so long as shes happy for herself!!
it probably a mix of both, she naturally darker as a person of Thai descent, that photographer is known to darken the effects on the camera to make the skin pop against the background and clothing colors, she is probably definitely darker than usual after her summer beach trip she's been having in France and other places, and we all remember the super light toned korean based look she had and a budding member in black pink. does nobody remember how the fans were upset that "she looks too light skinned compared to her debut/try out photos"? nobody's skin tone stays the dame all year round regardless of environmental and dietal changes and adjustments. why don't we just chill on the finding something new to complain about Lisa and just enjoy her talent as an artist.
And if someone tans naturally do we accuse the sun of blackfishing? Sometimes I wonder how far people will take this idea. She has dark skin and is wearing white against a white blackground. I think the issue is some of the warmth was reduced in the image. Her skin doesn't look darker, it looks cooler. This, combined with the high contrast makes it appear darker.
I am very happy for Lisa getting out around willing she didn't even care what people think about it I love you Lisa you're like in situation of my life and you should never care about what people think you should think about what you think about yourself
if its her real skin tone it pretty if not -.- another case of everyone wants to be black but also don't wanna be black. ethnic ambiguity is in white is out.
Colour theory. bright colors next to dark colours make dark colours appear darker, not only that she’s also Thai. There’s no intention behind this, it’s just a really nice piece of photography.

Cmon dude, iam tan too but thats not her true skin color.
Why does her skin color matter so much, I never saw complaints when they whitewashed her in kpop😮
@@SusixzzYou never saw complaints? Maybe you're just on an unbothered side of the internet...

Fr

Southeast Asians, like those from the Philippines and Thailand, typically have brown skin. What is fascinating about our skin is its remarkable adaptability. This adaptability is completely normal, allowing someone like Lisa to have either lighter or darker skin.

There’s a difference between embracing your real skin color and whatever this was. Especially when the next time she needs to go to a big fashion event she will likely be pale again. When you try to imitate another culture to look cool, but then when you want to be respected, classy, and elegant, you dress as something else that’s when I start to 👀

what’s wrong with it? The skin is not black so she’s not black fishing. She’s also not a white woman. She’s always been tanned. As evidenced by her childhood photos before she came to Korea. Or even the photos of her on holiday she posted recently. She’s tanned. She’s always been tanned a because she a Thai woman. The fact that Koreans have whitewashed her for decades is the real problem here. The fact that YG may have asked her to bleach her skin so that she could be closer to Korean beauty standards is the real problem here. The fact that the photo is overexposed is the trademark of the photographer. Nothing wrong with that.

As long as she is not jumping between tones when it suits.
White or Tan. Doesn't matter!! Skin is skin. Period.
She is from Thailand, and in Thailand the people are more tanned, but I agree that the photo was edited to saturate more the colors but I don't think it fits on blackfish... It's just a way of editing the photo and highlighting her skin tone
South east asian could be black or white depending on skincare routine plus so many natural beautiful face without surgery 😂
So we usually doesn't care racism based on skin colour unless it's involving nation.
P.S. Not a fans.
Whether it's her natural skin tone or not who cares??? But that is looking absolutely smoking hot on her❤
The term blackfishing is being thrown around everywhere nowadays. It’s drifted to far from its original meaning that if you go under the shade, took a photo, posted it and people notice your skin I slightly darker, it’s somehow considered blackfishing. Some people should just leave her be, she is happy with what she does n it's all that matters, she's happy, we are happy 🤗
as a black person im happy to see other races with dark skin letting the beauty be captured by camera instead of being pressured to be light and bright
happy for her so long as shes happy for herself!!
Most Southeast Asians have darker skin tones, like it's not like a bad thing and I appreciate Lisa as a Thai celebrity is embracing her natural tones.
Social media is a opinionated land mine. Still Lisa looks amazing and Rockstar is a bop. let her artistic vision shine
it probably a mix of both, she naturally darker as a person of Thai descent, that photographer is known to darken the effects on the camera to make the skin pop against the background and clothing colors, she is probably definitely darker than usual after her summer beach trip she's been having in France and other places, and we all remember the super light toned korean based look she had and a budding member in black pink. does nobody remember how the fans were upset that "she looks too light skinned compared to her debut/try out photos"? nobody's skin tone stays the dame all year round regardless of environmental and dietal changes and adjustments. why don't we just chill on the finding something new to complain about Lisa and just enjoy her talent as an artist.
She was originally darker, like darker then me even though I'm tan. But she was forced to bleach her skin 💀
I don't know her but the person on the first photo was stunning
As a southeast asian, I approve of this because our natural skin tone is brown. Not pale white skin.
Love her the way she is not as a blink but as an army 💜💜💜😊
This is overall good representation of dark skin in k pop, whether its natural or not, i find it refreshing ❤
Colour theory. bright colors next to dark colours make dark colours appear darker, not only that she’s also Thai. There’s no intention behind this, it’s just a really nice piece of photography.
