Mercedes E55 AMG - W210 or W211? An Owners Opinion

- Can't decide whether to buy a W211 or W210 E55 AMG? Or just want to know whats the difference between the two?

Pros W210: No, supercharger (parts very expensive, not available), no air suspension (easy fix, but pain in the a...), 5-speed gearbox slower but cheaper to fix, no sbc brakes. 210 is becoming more and more sought after.
Pros W211: apart from supercharger, spare parts are more available but i guess only for a couple more years. Electrical issues can be a pain...
both have similar rust issues
I have a 1998 W210 E55 and a Honda Civic FK8 Type R I love the difference between the two, one is a 25 year old 5.4 litre V8 with 354bhp the other is a 2020 car 2.0 litre with 320bhp, my E55 only comes out in the summer months,every time I drive it I fall in love with it again
w210 e55 just looks better than the w211 e55. non super charger m113 is plenty fast enough!
Great video! I am currently trying to decide on my first AMG car and I cannot pick between the W210 or W211. I currently daily a W124 (S124) 94 E320 that has 230k miles that I absolutely love and truly enjoy that it's one of the last "true" Mercedes. It makes me lean toward the W210 but I sure do love how the W211 looks and I am ready for some more modern features/looks. Cheers from the USA.
Go for w211 but a nice one, the power is amazing. I had one before so I’m actually looking at a 2002 w210 e55 so I’m doing the opposite lol
Amazing videos Matty, love your focus on the E-Class. I too am a W211 purist, hands down the best E55 (and Mercedes) ever made in my opinion!
Awesome ! Glad some of us are - they're really the best chassis IMO... but then again lots of them are great. I'm looking at an E63 211 on Wednesday so excited to see if I could get my hands on one of them finally :) You've got an E55?
Hy Matt , nice review just a bit dissapointed.
It would have been a more sincere comparrison , if you compared the w210 facelift modell against the w211 .The W210 facelift model made the car outside inside buildquality etc , better so not much better in many ways.
Thanks for your feedback. But yes I agree with you, the facelift shows the car was heavily revised to bring it more inline with the W211 successor. So I think you're right - the W210 Facelift would bring the 210 much closer to the 211. But for purposes of my videos its just to compare prefacelift 210 with prefacelift 211. Cheers :)
One thing I'm noticing as a W211 E55 owner, Mercedes has stopped making a LOT of parts for this car.... So when something breaks, good luck finding it. I can only imagine the W210 would be even more difficult.
W210. I've had 2 E320, 1 E430, and 4 E55. The Best or Nothing

Have the E36 AMG W210. Did have the E55 but sold that to my mate 👍🏼
Thats awesome mate - how powerful is the E36? Is there much difference in power / feel vs the E55?

Really envy your W211 right hand wheel with full car. Mine country banned import second car. If you want E55AMG,you must convert your W211 E200K,E 240 by swap E 55 AMG that tear a part from Japan. It's take a long time and the cost too.
Interesting - what country are you from? That sounds like a lot of work :( Having to convert the full car with all the specific AMG parts.
@@thatmatty231guy Thailand. It was banned after free taxes import car almost impact local dealership sale and Japanese car manufacture is going locate in Thailand. They can import by cut the half E55 only. The owner must bring their car to Mercedes Specialist for swap original part E55 to normal W211 and W210. It's one way to get E55 cheaper than mess with import tax.
C55 is best of both worlds. W210 mechanical simplicity but cleaner and more modern cabin
Yeah thats a good point. I had a C55 Estate last year - was a nice balance between the 2 - definitely more simple than the 211 :)
@@thatmatty231guy yep that is exactly what I have. Also facelift w203 which includes C55 doesnt rust like W210
