The free bossing events were really nice because I felt like I could actually try to enjoy some bosses without risking my cash. Thanks, I'll absolutely be trying some of these tips!

    I've always just been utterly baffled at how people, using the exact same gear as me, get kills literally 3x faster or do something stupidly impossible like 4000% Telos with it while I only just patted myself on the back as a 16+ year vet with maxed stats and top of the line gear for managing to get tolerable at 100% Telos.
    That spreadsheet looks useful but I'll be honest I'm a bit confused by it as far as how to take that and turn it into a good revo bar. I imagine my dps would go up a lot without revo but all bosses for me fall into "weak enough it doesn't really matter my dps is a little lower" to "so convoluted that it takes all my effort to not die to mechanics I don't have any to spare for my rotation."
    4:05 now that looks useful!

    I just learned full manual maybe 3 weeks ago after coming back to the game and it is a game changer. Take the leap and just learn it you will enjoy pve so much more. Also if you are using range one of the best items you can get to keep dps and learn to be better at combat are nightmare gauntlets and fleeting boots.

    For anyone thinking about trying some bossing, i have a little story if you care to read.
    I recently started zuk normal modes..I really struggled with sirenic/bis perk asc/eof…I got 3 kills after about 4 long nights of playing. I had over 40 deaths and as many teles out. I tried to camp ROD, but forgot several times costing more in death costs, but I ended up only losing around 8m for the whole session after claiming chest loots.
    I then switched to sea singers/dual cywirs/eof, and completed the next one with only one death, and got a 10m chest. This is the first time I had even tried animate dead/tank armor mage, and first time ever using cywirs, and I would highly highly highly recommend it to learners. I think this is how a defensive armor should work, it keeps you alive and let’s you work your way through a kill. If you mess up a mechanic, it’s extremely forgiving, allowing you to continue rather than dying constantly. This seems like a great way to get familiar with a boss, and transition to dps armor as you get more comfortable with mechanics.
    I consider myself bad at bossing, but I’m constantly improving because I make a point to put in the effort. Things I thought would be hard in the beginning, have become second nature now, allowing me to add more things into my rotation comfortably. Things like planted feet switch>vigour switch>death swift>ring switch>dual asc seemed impossible to me with keybinds, but now I don’t even think about the keys or what I’m doing, it’s just popping a death swiftness.
    I guess what I’m saying is that you can do more than you think, just start slow, add a ring switch here, keybind a mobile switch, just make some habits and build off of them.
    Good luck out there

      if you need animate dead to do normal mode you suck at pvm, you probably camping revo++ everywhere, nm is easier than an elite dungeon, literaly you need to kill trash mobs with 15k hp and the challenges are 50k, dont even need to ulti, you are probably one of those guys that doesnt care for improvment and now, u gonna use animate everywhere instead of learning how to avoid the damage (which is almost zero in nm LOL)

    Why Jagex removed the combat academy in Lumbridge still baffles me. The number one reason most new players quit the game is because combat is unintuitive and there's no tutorial for it. There _was_ a tutorial for it, but Jagex got rid of it. Granted, I never really got much out of it, but I played the EoC beta all the time before the full update went out (such fond memories of the NPCs that gave you free nex gear), so I learned how the system worked in its infancy, but that's a privilege that doesn't exist anymore.
    That and progression is prohibitively expensive. ~30M for a set of Armadyl armor sounds pretty cheap for someone who fights TzKal-Zuk, Solak, Raksha, and the Ambassador just for fun but that's bank-breaking for someone who's just starting to get into bossing.
    And then they see guides for bosses that say you should have 96 Herbalore and 92 Prayer? It doesn't sound too bad for people who've already reached 99, but that kind of thing is very discouraging.

      Personally, I made a bunch of money from skilling before I ever got into pvm. That helped a lot as far as buying Tier-70 armor and Tier-80 weapons. There are ways to make over 1M/hr in many skills, sometimes several mil/hr, so it doesn't take too long unless you've only trained combat so far. I would recommend starting there, unless you really hate skilling. Making money from pvm gets significantly faster once you have that level of gear.
      Tier-70 armor with Tier-80 weapon is plenty for beginner to easy bosses, then you can gradually earn money from those to work up to better gear. If you can get to 86 herblore for super anti-fires (or 80-81 with boosts), QBD is a great choice. It's a much more consistent money maker than GWD1 since it's not reliant on rare drops. And it teaches you mechanics, which is great for transitioning to mid-level bosses. I learned QBD with no overloads/curses/perks/relics/familiar, just royal dhide and a lucky armadyl crossbow. It was hard, but doable with practice. Now QBD is a joke for me, but the mechanics I learned helped me learn Arch-Glacor faster, and will help with more bosses in the future.

      read your skills. They have different cds(so different uptimes) and different conditionnals and different damages. You just swapped your skills for a combination that does more damage when hitting the correct available one on gcd but there are more to that in rs3, revo is basically your afk dps so it's not a be all end all by any mean). There are things in mmos that are asymetrical, for example if you have access to temporal dmg buffs you may want to align them with your harder hitting abilities and also mb debuffs on the enemies, positionnals, swaps, etc... Welcome to pve.

    14yr-ish vet and I take big breaks between playing, usually around 4-6mo between, sometimes years.
    Runescape changes a lot and the meta is constantly evolving with stuff like invention, and now archeology. I'm pretty casual with 99 in melee stats, incl. def and HP, and there's just so many systems to remember and learn and I just don't have the time for it.
    I have good gear, t90 power armor, I think t85 weaps, and trying to play around the tick system with timed abilities and not knowing a lot of the new lingo really hinders my performance.
    Stuff like buying abilities is beyond me, since I don't even know what's good or useful, and I don't really wanna spend mills on what could potentially be mistakes would really debilitate my progress further, and those prospects, on top of death, really bring me down.
    I like revolution because it's a good safety net, and I can focus more on what's happening on screen, and communicating with my friends, than on micromanaging abilities; but hearing terms like revo++ just goes right over my head, plus I see that your ability bar is huge, and I don't know how you got it that big, or if that's what revo++ is.
    I apologize if this comes off as rude, but it's all very complicated with these crossing systems and investments of time and such

    • @seejoshrun1761
      @seejoshrun1761 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm with you. Personally, I'm adding those extra steps gradually and doing the bosses I feel comfortable with at my current level. Still on full revolution, only basic invention perks on my weapons, one ability bar at a time, haven't bought many abilities, etc. But I'm fine with that, even though it's not optimal.

    A friend of mine has a freaking Scythe they bought for a little over 400M, full Masterwork, 99 stats (aside from Magic and Ranged), 90 Summoning, 99 Prayer and access to curses, and an Amulet of Souls, access to overloads... and they can't even do Vindicta properly. Vindicta of all things. They kept saying they had to eat a ton of food per each kill and they could only do like 4 kills a trip max... I'll say it again, with max stats, in T90 gear. They used a Revo++ action bar with all the ultimates at front then tresholds then basics, and just let Revo++ do everything for them, not a single defensive ability anywhere. *sigh* Normally you can literally just outheal Vindicta with that kind of gear, so uh... he's a prodigy I guess.
    I told them the usual Vindicta tips, to start utilizing defensive abilities, bring a shield and all that, and told them to stop completely relying on Revo++, even offered to make them a better Revo++ bar if they are not willing to stop relying on it. Well, they listened to the defensive abilities part and started bringing a shield to res sometimes and now they could like 5-6 kills per trip, but uh, they still kept complaining they can't do Vindicta normally. So I went ahead, got their exact same gear, without a single aura or overload, and literally recorded myself doing a foodless kill with automatically triggered basics but manually used tresholds and abilities, showed them when to do what and explained why, and sent the video. The reply was "you make it look easy" and they continued doing sloppy kills without even trying to learn the boss... an entry-level one in terms of mechanics.
    So folks, don't be like them. If you're willing to learn, keep trying, you'll get good at PvM eventually. I still suck at PvM though, I can't even do Arch-Glacor above 250% or do Kerapac foodless smh.

    Making anything more complicated doesn't make it more interesting or enjoyable to everyone. Those that enjoy it should have it. Those that don't enjoy it should have a viable comparable alternative. We all pay real money to play the game. We all don't get the same value for our money. Jagex seems to cater to the keyboard wizards and leave those that just want to be able to play the best they can hanging in the lurch. Revo should be the answer but it isn't. As it is it seems like it's Hooray for ME and the he77 with YOU. With YOU being those that just want to play.

    Yea good to really try to figure out what ability rotation produces the most output. Like when I started arch glacor hard mode I was steady getting wrecked on the arms. I couldn't dps enough. I thought damn man I'm gonna have to level up more or something there's no way. But after trying over n over I noticed once in awhile I could get through pretty easily, so eventually I took note of what I was doing when that happened, and just kept doing it. I'm still a boss noob but so far I've noticed the dps difference between not knowing the optimal ability rotation (just winging it), and knowing what produces the most damage in a given situation is pretty big.

    Hey Alex, thanks for this video man. I have a different kind of a problem I'd like your views on.. I just dont feel the motivation to PVM cuz its just way too much work (learning the mechanics and stuff.. and then doing that and getting stone spirits), and a lot of bosses just feel impossible (eg raksha). What do i do to get over this mentality?

    • @Karpnado
      @Karpnado 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankfully Raksha has practice mode which helps a lot but if you're taking a huge leap like GWD2 bosses to Raksha then it could be indication you need to learn bosses in between like Rax, Nex, KK (although not that worth your time) and HM Arch Glacor are all cool bosses that will help you learn technique. Good luck, it won't be overnight for sure but I know you've got this if you set your mind to it :)

    • @Nathan-uo9yf
      @Nathan-uo9yf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try learning arch glacor..it’s very rewarding, and teaches almost all the base mechanics in an easy to learn way. You can learn mobility with surge/bd, shield switching to barricade/reflect/reso, weapon switching for minions, encourages good dps, can easily teach yourself prayer flicking here..and even more lol.
      Best part is that normal mode glacor is 100% safe deaths, it teleports you outside the arena if you die. Decent learner loot at the same time, and hard mode is just a more strict normal mode for the most part.

    I think the one thing that might have been worth mentioning is people need to just not fear death. I'm even one of the worst at this, but throw yourself at a boss and know deaths are inevitable and you're trying to learn this new thing. You will mess up. It'll show you the areas you're messing up and give you a point to improve on. Damage > Staying alive when learning in RS. You'll learn to stay alive with time.
    Rs is a marathon, not a sprint. Die 20 times over a week learning a boss as you try to blast it down and you'll kill it twice as fast as you would if you focused on not dying with the kicker wing you'll still have likely died as much doing that. I've ever found I die less when learning as I just focus on damage first and surviving second.

    • @shutupack5389
      @shutupack5389 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course noone wants to improve. The game is built on a terribly out of date engine, combat is an awful experience compared to the modern games many new players are playing simultaneously. The learning curve is beyond fighting-game levels of retarded. Not to mention that before all else is considered, the game mandates that you acclimate to having MINIMUM .6 seconds of lag between every click and action. The dominant voice in the community is of an aging playerbase that only seeks to perpetuate the current state of things in new updates. And why not? It will only benefit them. This is an inevitability in games with steep learning curves in tandem with poor factors for new player retainment. There is an extremely wide gap in knowledge between the most proficient and those who are not.

    • @shutupack5389
      @shutupack5389 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same trite line of thinking "oh they're just lazy, they just don't want to, they have weak egos or adhd" is also extremely prevalent in discussion of fighting games, another group of games with quite steep learning curves and often built on poor code. People only repeat these tautologies to themselves because they don't know how the experience is for other people. Player demographics on the other hand do not lie.

    • @jossremes5502

      @@shutupack5389 You are 100% right, but at the same time i'm not even remotely wrong, even tho the game engine sucks, is out of date and even i talk a lot about how bad it is for new players, that doesnt mean that you cant improve upon what you have. Im going to take myself as an example, as recently as yerterday i decided that i had enough of camping a single prayer, having a hard time at places like raksha and solak where i ran out of food constantly because of it, i went on youtube for a prayer flicking guide and slowly worked on it, the tools for improving are there, it is up to you if you want to do it or no.

    • @YeoWeiXiong
      @YeoWeiXiong 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do know but self-improvement is kinda needed for this game. Simply watching guides will not help people improve. You gotta get practice and understand stuff to become better. Rather than whining what is bad, the person usually did not reflect on oneself and also eager to blame something or someone else.

    • @shutupack5389
      @shutupack5389 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YeoWeiXiong Runescape's dwindling playerbase and poor reviews from newcomers don't lie. You can moralize the issue all you want and pin the issue of performance on someone's weak character (a way more dubious claim), but until you actually draw a realistic comparison, you're just pissing in the water like everybody else.

    Are you playing the game on a 75 in. television screen? Just look at all the space you have with controls and pictures and stuff that has nothing to do with your motion in the game screen. If the game was that complicated when it came out and for years after it wouldn't be here today. My is guess is that a fighter jet pilot doesn't have that many distractions during a real life combat situation. I will repeat something that I've said many times over the years. Making something more and more and more complicated. Doesn't make it more and more and more interesting or more and more and more fun.

With Perks, overloads,curses t92s, u should easily be hitting 5ks and probably much harder lol. all of this convoluted crap is what makes EoC pvm really unenjoyable. The simplicity is why I like RS back in the day. There was no ability spamming, like in WoW. That all changed with EoC and the game isn't very fun, imo. I still play Legacy 99% of the time. You say, "you don't have to study this like it's a final exam", but that is exactly what you need to do. If you need to change the way you do things for each and every scenario, then you do indeed need to know what is most effective in each of those scenarios. Without having to double check for every little thing you do, memorizing like a final exam is the way to go. It's a game, not a class or job. Should be fun, not feel like school
    Gotta learn what each of the 50+ abilities do, and how they can interact with each other. You need to study up on gear effects, like amulets and rings, and the timing for switching. You need to study up on which potions to use, and when(like bombs). Which spells do what and when to use them which there are 3 spellbooks with 20+ spells each. You need to learn what divination is. Archeology is terribly complex. Invention takes leaning 3 skills to even begin, then learning that skill along with the other3 skills as they improve towards mastery, allowing for more Invention. Invention and it's perks are convoluted. You have perks like that mystery perk that do nothing. You have perks that reduce damage, when would these get used? Being there creates a stress about possible uses to someone who doesn't know which perks are useless. There are the quests you need to do in order to get access to major parts of these skills and spellbooks. EoC is just terrible to play in. I could go on. If weapons of the same tier do the same DPS, why wouldn't everyone just use the same weapon? Wy does attack speed even matter, if dps is the same between average and fast weapons? Why even have dual wielding and 2H weapons if they do the same DPS? Since DPS is literally ALL that people talk about in EoC, I think this is a valid question. You need to study which bosses are even susceptible to which abilities, like stuns and bleeds. Let's not forget that some of the suggested abilities cost 50+MILLION gp to unlock, with some at over 200M

    • @YeoWeiXiong
      @YeoWeiXiong 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get better by understanding the game. For example, in pvm, it mainly works around the tick system. There are also guides everywhere to help with that. So don't be discouraged, quitters don't win:)

    • @DustyTheDog
      @DustyTheDog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@YeoWeiXiong No. The lack of abilities was the reason I chose RS over WoW. Been playing the game for 17 years. I understand the game just fine, I just don't like how tedious it has become. It used to be fun to just grab the weapons and armor, then go to a boss. The game ticks are nothing new. There wasn't much benefit to PVM before eoc, but PKers used ticks before eoc to eat food and swap weapons, then special in the same tick. Tick abuse is nothing new.
      Now you need to spend a whole day preparing if you are trying something new. That just isn't what makes a fun game: watching and reading reviews. The game is nearly impossible to figure out solo. In the last 3 years, I've tried to get a number of my people to play. They quit in a week due to not understanding a thing about what is happening.
      I get made fun of so much that each and every other soul can just go away and disappear. I recently stopped talking to people in game, on Discord, or irl. It's not worth asking people for help with the game.
