Wow, can’t believe I found this. I was actually at this performance. Feels like a lifetime ago now… If memory serves it was the anniversary of the Master of Puppets album and they played the entire album along with a number of their fan favorites.
They played for two and a half hours at this festival, ignoring the closing time!
Of course I couldn't move my neck at all on the second day of the festival.

these days with metallica's advanced age instead of a 2.5 hour show 1 night I would be good with 2 nights of 1.5 hour shows each. that might be easier on the band

Partially, yes this was the live debut of "the other new song" but "the new song" was already played a couple of months earlier on the tour.

Lars killed it in this show!
Because they are one of a few bands that have lasted from the thrash area we are starting to see the struggle on how long until a metal drummer can last. Lars's drumming especially his kicks are starting to get real sloppy. I feel for him because he knows he's not what he used to be. Nothing more you can do really.

No, this was part of their escape from the studio tour in 2006. They didn't play any dates in Japan during their sick of the studio tour in 2007.

I think they think Fuel is a better song than it is...what a pathetic opener and especially when they play it far too fast...its as if they cannot understand timing is crucial to a songs feel and reception.
