You’ve inspired me to take a local welding class for 10 weeks, 3 hours per week. I’m excited to learn, always liked fabrication but never knew how to weld but since watching your videos it’s given me the passion to learn. Many times have I needed to weld in my personal experience, and I’m only 22. Excited to keep following along, keep sharing your journey and laying beads.
Other than estimates, I charge for travel. Don't work for free guys. Customers will say something like you don't get paid to drive to an office job and I respond I don't drive $150,000 (I have a big truck with a knuckle boom and a huge amount of tools) truck to an office job. Estimates I usually drive my car to talk with the customers.
I almost never comment on videos, but man I really like your videos, they really show the reality of the welding biz and I love that! Keep burning rod! I always carry a 5 gallon bucket preferably a metal one I keep a hammer, slag pick and a hand full of other things in it so I don’t have to run around so much then I can drop the rod stubs in it without melting through and I don’t have to worry about it cleaning them up or losing one to find in a tier later some days I need 2 depending on the job and how many dogs and other stuff I need I even made a tray to go on ladders oh and I got a hook on the hand of the bucket to hang places and sometimes I use it to catch sparks if I need extra protection to not burn things underneath but yeah it’s always something lol
Get one of those little husky tool bags to carry your tape, square, grinder and discs, hammer, rods etc when you weld inside truck beds. Save a trip. Keep on meltin that metal!
Feels like you are my neighbor except I'm 3k miles away here in Northern California. Learning a lot from you. I'm a biomedical field service technician wanting to get into welding. Great video would love to see a video on how you flame gouge seeing as you don’t CAC. Just bought a Miller trailblazer 325 starting my own business up in Canada!

15:25 when you put out the fuel first then the oxygen it created a loud pop. This is called “backfire” which is a loud snap or pop as a torch flame is extinguished. For those newbies, fire cannot exist without oxygen. This is why oxygen has to turn off first because that backfire isn’t good for the torch. The more you know
Any chance you could either do a video on or point me to one that better explains when I would need to Arc weld or MIG or just wirefeed etc? I only have a chicago electric flux core and I am loving welding. but man I am not doing so well. But I have used it for like everything I had to do, since it was all I had. I will get a multiprocess eventually though but at that point, I wont know which process to use.
stick is great for field repair especially 6010 rod, it will weld through paint rust and what not. always a good idea to prep your metal. but thats why I use stick primarily. also a lead is lighter than a suit case
@M.M.A. what type metal do you typically order for pins and bushings? I have an excavator that could use some coupler pins and bushings. Thinking it might be cheaper to have them made rather then go to the dealer.
