@phbranding8530 I am not sure about the cash 😉. For sure they had some good financial backing from Microsoft. But that's an investment that needs to be paid back in some way. And you can see that MS is now pressuring Phil Spencer and Xbox as a whole to start delivering results. Which unfortunately means at this point in time people being laid off and price hikes for Xbox game pass. And that's exactly because the hardware, that carries games sales and game pass subscriptions, is underwhelming and underperforming. PS5 is outselling Xbox series by at least 2 to 1. If that's not a failure for you @Mcfigg, I don't know what is 🙂. And to be clear I love Xbox and it pains me to see the state it's in.
@@FJGamerDad Luckily, they are publicly traded so we don't have to guess or speculate. We can read the balance sheets. Their gross income has eclipsed every gaming company except for Tencent. But more importantly, their profit and profit margins are greater than Sony's. They are a business and yes, layoffs are part of that world, and I certainly won't defend that. Alot of that is from the very acquisition you're referring to, so that investment is already paying off. Game Pass is their biggest profit center and the single most profitable gaming business outside of Steam. 2 to 1 consoles sales vs Sony isn't a failure. Especially when you consider that in the US, it's very very close. Selling few consoles in Europe is a failure though. But the industry has changed completely, and boomers need to wake up. Yes, the console is the best place to keep your audience captive, but smell the roses, it's a tiny part of the market now. And MS has transitioned very nicely to multi platform and services which is where the vast majority of the gaming business is. The most important quantity to have is IP. You're seeing that now. Having a console does nothing by itself. People buy games. Games are where revenue and profits are. Sony is a solid 5 or 6 years behind right now. They spent hundreds of millions of dollars on VR3, a PS5 Pro and Portal. None of those can grow their business. But they also spent years of R&D in them instead of cloud, mobile and (quality) acquisitions. Now they are in a permanent disadvantage as MS gobbled up the majority of profitable IPs, is years ahead in cloud, and is about to release a handheld. The question for them is can they manage all of those spinning plates? Historically, no. So it's not all doom and gloom for Sony. They will have opportunities where MS drops the ball. But they need a serious turnaround right now and they don't even have a (PS) CEO yet.
@phbranding8530 extremely good points! I have some remarks though :) : It is very easy to make profits and profit margins appear better than they really are. It is common practice to make every possible trick to bump up margins and profits on your balance sheet to not scare investors. That's even easier when you are part of a colossal structure such as MS where you can bounce around costs and use economy of scale between entities. So margins are not necessarily a measure of success. Regarding Game Pass, there is no doubt that it is successful and profitable but if everything smells like roses as you say, then why take a risk by dividing it into different tiers and bumping up the price? If it is not to try and get more cash in (milking the cows ;) ). When huge investments are made, there is usually a clear plan as to when and more importantly how much it is expected to pay off. From what I can tell MS (meaning the very higher-ups) is getting very impatient and frustrated with Xbox. As for console sales, it doesn't matter if the sales in the US are very very close. The fact is that in the global market as a whole, Xbox hardware is getting its teeth kicked in by Nintendo and Sony. And yes MS is transitioning nicely but the point of my video IS the consoles. And I believe that because MS and Xbox read the market well and early, they are in a position where they can counter Sony and keep the Xbox consoles alive and well. They "just" need to leverage what they already have (services and infrastructure) and learn from the mistakes they made. I still find it unbelievable that they are not leveraging the tight integration with Windows to expand the usage of Xbox series X beyond that of a simple console by making it more open and versatile. Innovate and offer something different from Sony on the hardware like they did with software and services (with Game Pass and cloud gaming). When it comes to IPs, there's no denying that they can be very valuable assets. But as you said, a huge ? as to their ability to maintain so many. Btw I like having discussions like this so subscribe to the channel!
Let's be clear: Xbox market share was *bought,* not earned. Big difference. The only thing helping Xbox now is Sony's incompetence, but given Xbox's record of Destroying studios, it wont surprise me if they still manage to screw this up
Xbox just needs a custom design graphics card where the the GPU connection clicks onto the side iO Xbox. So the fan part remains in unit when it clicks on through an IO but the processing part is on the outside like the SSD attachment on the SX but on a much larger scale. The overall box size can be reduced as the processing part of the GPU is on the outside. There you have it the upgradable user friendly next gen xbox.
@newjackgaming88 that's exactly why I would like for MS to double down and make the future Xbox console more open, more integrated to Windows, allow 3rd party launchers, Geforce Now native app, etc..
Xbox has even less games than Sony & yes the Pro price point is ridiculous but by no means is this a catalyst for a Xbox resurgence. Sony has sold 60 mil to Xbox 30 mil so I don't think Sony is shaking in their boots. Xbox will finish last; as always, because they refuse to give want the consumers want.
Honestly they are both awful at this point both are stuck in the previous generation ps4/xbx1 content. It's just that sony's was better because MS thought they were some entertainment box or something. But pretty much replaying remakes and remasters from the ps4 era. Where is Fable? They have so many IPS now.
this week i bought xbox one x and game pass. I love it my three childrens love it, my wife is okey with that because its soo cheap. we are looking for winter.
The Series S shouldn’t go for more than $200 and it should sell at that price all year long. Xbox’s only viable strategy is to undercut PS because they arent the bigger brand in the console market. Hopefully, their 1st output does well and they should end the gen alright. But most importantly, they next to start next gen with 1st party day 1. They dont get the benefit of the doubt from the console player, so they cant afford to fumble.
@bosskey23 I think perpetuating a clearly dying business model is suicidal. The sales of the PS5 pro will show if there is still a market for traditional consoles. But I would urge MS to differentiate itself from what Sony is doing. They did that beautifully with the software and services (Game pass, cross platfrom saves and cloud gaming) and they should do the same with hardware. Offer a more open console similar to what Valve did with the Steam Deck. Embrace the integration with Windows to a certain extent. Just do something different and don't screw up the marketing like they have been doing since the Xbox One.
@@FJGamerDad The PS5 Pro is a niche idea. The iphone Pro Max sells less than the base model. Does that mean that the smartphone business model is dying? The PS5 Pro is marketed towards hardcore fans
@bosskey23 I am convinced that traditional consoles as they are this generation will disappear. Why would MS have initiated their pivot toward the "gaming as a service" model do you think? Why did Nintendo develop a completely different concept to MS and Sony with the Switch? A simple plastic box used just to play games and do some multimedia stuff isn't enough anymore. Especially if one looks at the demographics and how the younger generations have a completely different approach to gaming. In that regard slapping "Pro" to a slightly better product doesn't change the outcome. Also comparing smartphones to consoles is slightly irrelevant. They simply do not have the same importance in our daily life. A "Pro" phone can have some "Pro" features specifically targeted toward professional use cases which actually add value to the users. A "Pro" gaming console on the other hand? I for one find it comical :D. Btw I appreciate you challenging my POV! It can only help us all move forward! I hope you subscribed to the channel ;)
@@FJGamerDad Both Nintendo and Xbox had to pivot because they cant compete with PS. The Gamecube and Xbox One were failed consoles. PS will continue to make more money per user. Top tier AAA games will go up in price since the industry is tried of subsidizing gamers. TH-cam is an echo chamber. No casual in the real world cares about all stuff. No one wants to deal with PC MP cheaters and the lack of sports games. Handheld gaming isnt new, young gamers play on whatever they can get their hands on. I played on a Gameboy as a kid and so did may other kids. Once these kids grow up and make their own money. Their playing habits will change as well.
@@bosskey23 Gamecube and Xbox og were failed consoles sure. But the Wii and xbox 360 beat the ps3 im pretty sure the Wii thrashed the ps3? Microsoft didn't really pivot with 360 they just did it better than Sony. Better price, easy to develop for (causing the ps3 power advantage to be nullified for more than 3 years and issues with many mutliplats), better tech like the controllers and Xbox live, plus PS3 was the arrogant sony era of insulting consumers for questioning it's pricing etc. Only the tail end MS became lazy and Sony completely restructured to take advantage of the ps3's potential and marketing and caught up, with Ken's influence completely out of the picture. What MS did was pivot with the xbox one for no reason other than to exert dirty monopolistic corporate tendencies that they are famous for. Having won that generation they thought they were apple of the consoles and blew their lead with BS DRM, always online to play, tv entertainment hub BS and just nothing but apathy to their consumers. Kind of like how Sony was tone def at the PS3 lauch and now is again behaving the same with the PS5 pro.
@reignjuste the problem is that there is no way to produce relatively powerful consoles at a reasonable price anymore, thanks to the boom on GPU demand to build AI clusters and such. So the only option left I believe is the economy at scale by relying on cloud gaming.
No, Sony will continue to sell many PS5s regardless of what MS creates or releases, for purchasing a Sony console has nothing to do with logic, but more to do with habit and hype for most.
@ridiculous_gaming you are thinking Sony is the Apple of consoles isn't it? :) That's actually a good point! I guess we will see how many PS5 Pros will be sold ;)
The series x is already a terrible price since the day it was released. They needed to do what the PS4 did in 2013. Be a bit more powerful AND be cheaper. But they just matched PlayStation in price and old barely 8 million for the next 4 years. And "if Xbox releases a pro version"......... wait what? There aren't even any leaks. When Scorpio was announced it took a ridiculous year and 5 months to release. That's just it, Xbox won't be releasing a "Pro" any time soon going by history. And if we are ALSO going by history of Xbone x, it will NOT be reasonable priced either (double the price of you current standard console which was the Xbox s at the time). Why would you think it would be? To give context to what I mean by history, PS5 Pro did it just like last gen, announced and released in about 2 months.

If many developers still make game versions for PS4, the Series S should not be a problem. MS needs Win 11 to have an Xbox mode, for MS/Windows is losing to the streamlined Steam OS. This is a far greater threat than PlayStation.
@ridiculous_gaming the problem is not the Series S. The problem is the process that the developers have to go through in order to get a game to be released on both X and S. You can look it up, developers hate it! The development kit offered by Sony to developers is far more streamlined and easy to implement.
But then how often does it happen, for example we thought the reason Black Myth was delayed on Xbox was because of Series S, turns out it wasn't, then there was this other small game, turns out it had to do with Xbox approving the game and not the series s , and is the complaining real when they release games playable on the steam deck, the fact COD 6 runs and looks great on the series s, Cyberpunk looks amazing, Forza 5, we gonna get a new MS Flight simulator releasing with no problems@@FJGamerDad

@nate1735 I am not sold on Indiana Jones tbh. As for Stalker 2, it sure looks great and so far I didn't see the ugly "gameplay captured on PC" watermark on the trailer so ... It could be nice on series X.
@smwfreak1647 it depends where you are planning to play the game I guess. Usually gameplay captured on PC gives an unrealistic representation of how the game will look like on consoles. Obviously looking better than what a console would deliver. So yeah I tend to be very sceptical about gameplay trailers.
1. Save Xbox. Kill Gamepass (Microsoft only uses the Xbox as a vehicle for subscriptions) OR 2. Hope EU, UK and DOJ break Xbox away from Microsoft to be a 100% independent and separate company to focus on games. MS can get lost, take its GamePass and be a full 3rd party publisher.
I think that Xbox has not come out or mention a new console yet because they are looking to see Sony's new console and what improvements were made. I think Microsoft will still come out with a new console down the road but be a better console than Sony.
I think the reason is because the new console is going to have pc functionality.. and anouncneding it too early could cause some developers to stop making xbox versions of their games completely..in lue of just doing the pc version instead for it.... which would cause the current xbox to have a lot of canceled games...

@holliswhite1494 let's not take one exception and make it a rule ;). Concord is colossal failure no doubt. However, saying that Xbox has way more games coming out in the future is a bit wishful. You don't review a product on what it could be in the future. You assess what it offers now. Because as we have experienced time and time again, promises are valid only for those who believe in them. Should I remind you about Lords of the Fallen, Starfield and Halo infinite to name a few? All were hyped as the next big thing by Xbox and all disappointed. I repeat it, I love Xbox but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't criticize what they are doing right now.

We know there are games coming to Xbox........ they are coming HALF A DECADE NOW. Avowed was supposed to be this year and is now 2025. Fable and the others probably will get pushed to 2026, no matter what anyone wants to claim might be the release year on any of them right now. Cloud gaming isn't revolutionary. Ps now around 2009 was 1st, and while its interesting it just really isn't good enough. Cloud gaming isn't any better. Its mediocre at best if you have great internet. Possibly decent enough for ultra casual players. Theres just too much latency
@RandalphTheBlack I have a video coming out regarding cloud gaming. And not to spoil anything but ... You might be surprised. I was to say the least 😅.
I don’t understand people like you. Did you really think Xbox created Game Pass out of the goodness of their hearts? They made it to make money, so of course the price will keep rising while the value drops. That's why I hate cloud and subscription gaming-it gives too much control to developers. You’re paying them whether they make a game or not. The point of Game Pass isn’t to make gaming more accessible; it's to generate profit.
@davis760 I feel I need to clarify again that this video is just focusing on the console side of things. I acknowledge in my video that Xbox (aka Microsoft Gaming division ;) ) has the best strategy. I just think that there is a possibility to still save the hardware side of the business.

Did you know that a game being streamed to you on xcloud is....... get this..... the series s version? And it only supports 1080p? Meanwhile cloud gaming on PlayStation is 4K and its not a 600p version of the game being streamed to you like over on Xbox. Digital Foundry did a video comparing the 2 services last March, I implore you check it out and please don't use xcloud as some from of trailblazing tech in the future lol. PlayStation were talking about cloud gaming at the PS4 console reveal back in Feb 2013. Why talk about Geforce cloud when you could have just compared xcloud directly with PlayStation? Then the second half of the video is lamenting all the problems implemented by slimy Phil the past decade. Series s WILL NEVER BE REMOVED, making up over 75% of the series console install base. Can't you see that THAT is one of the biggest problems.......... and it was all slimy Phil. Game pass sub growth has also stagnated the past 3 years being a huge mistake. Why should slimy Phil be happy about the PS5 Pro again (by the way, he is never NOT being called that again by me since that slimy IGN interview after the Xbox showcase this year)???
@andrewsqual I am sorry if it came across that Xcloud is Phil Spencer's idea in my video. What I meant is that the strategy of having Xcloud as the lowest entry point into gaming (because in essence you can cloud game using any device therefore you don't have to pay for pricy console or pc) is a great idea in my opinion. But I also say that they didn't market it well AND more importantly it is technically a subpar experience when compared to Geforce Now. The reason I bring up Geforce now is because that, as far as I tested, it is the benchmark when it comes to cloud gaming. I have tried the Free and Ultimate tiers and yes both have some issues that I will cover in a future video but both are way better than Xcloud. I am genuinely interested in where you got the " 75% of the series console install base is series S" from. Can you post a link to your soruce about that? I am intrigued!

There you have it the upgradable user friendly next gen xbox.
xbox has dev mode u can run emulation u can play any ps1 ps2 psp gamecube wii windows 98 pc games and more also has online netplay
@newjackgaming88 that's exactly why I would like for MS to double down and make the future Xbox console more open, more integrated to Windows, allow 3rd party launchers, Geforce Now native app, etc..
Already can do that on my PC and phone.
Funny, the series generation is the first one i skipped since Xbox began. Over 133k achievement points, I bailed to PS5 this generation. No regrets.
I really don't want to spend $20 a month just to play flint lock
@AJJJ-co2vd you are exagerating a bit :D I guess you are referring to either Game Pass andd/or cloud gaming on Geforce now ;)
Xbox has even less games than Sony & yes the Pro price point is ridiculous but by no means is this a catalyst for a Xbox resurgence.
All they need to do is to stop giving there games to pc
They should at least try to compete with Valve's monopoly.
@@houragents5490 valve sooner than later might separate themselves from other pc handheld makers they are the only one that makes games
All Xbox needs is a great Halo Infinite Campaign Expansion DLC with 4 player Split-screen! That's a Blockbuster system seller!
If Xbox releases a pro version at reasonable price then Sony will be in a bad situation.
We don't need a pro Console.
I’m pretty sure Nintendo had the best strategy this gen
That's actually funny ... but sadly true by the numbers :D
Nintendo doesn’t even have their current gen console yet…
@@las549I think you don’t know anything about the console gen system let me list the ninth gen consoles Atari VCS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 those are all of our current gen consoles

@thelastanimebender2992 If you own a series S and you are happy with it then I am genuinely happy for you. Regarding the Black Myth Wukong, I do not believe in a "secret" exclusivity deal. Neither Sony nor Game Science confirmed that piece of news. Developing a game is not a piece of cake especially for multiple platforms and even more especially for consoles because the development pipelines are different from one console manufacturer to the other. A game can be working on a Steam Deck and look great because it's waaaaaaaay smaller resolution and the Steam OS is very optimized. The Xbox dev kit is notorious among developers for being a pain in the ... Just google it.
Xbox will outlast Playstation easily. Their ecosystem absolutely drowns Playstation. Especially live service and MTX.

@dadsongamer2653 you are soooo right! But let's be hopeful 😅.
Xbox has so many quality free games on gamepass and yet no one buys it
@MagnumMotions that's because both the hardware and the marketing are underwhelming.
Xbox Hardware is better than ps5 so....
@FJGamerDad I agree and disagree at the same time, the word of mouth marketing is the most powerful marketing there is, I have seen countless people recommending gamepass as it offers many games and seamless connection between xbox and PCand that too very cheap, yet people simply don't want to buy it.
And yes Microsoft marketing is all over the place
Agreed
But you think Indiana jones and stalker 2 looks good?
@nate1735 I am not sold on Indiana Jones tbh. As for Stalker 2, it sure looks great and so far I didn't see the ugly "gameplay captured on PC" watermark on the trailer so ... It could be nice on series X.
@@FJGamerDad whats so ugly about seeing "gameplay captured on PC" ? Isnt it a good thing?
@smwfreak1647 it depends where you are planning to play the game I guess. Usually gameplay captured on PC gives an unrealistic representation of how the game will look like on consoles. Obviously looking better than what a console would deliver. So yeah I tend to be very sceptical about gameplay trailers.
Agreed.
series x (willing to pay gamer) screw by series s (casual), what a pathetic
I'll buy an Xbox series if banjo threeie is confirmed
1. Save Xbox. Kill Gamepass (Microsoft only uses the Xbox as a vehicle for subscriptions)
OR
2. Hope EU, UK and DOJ break Xbox away from Microsoft to be a 100% independent and separate company to focus on games. MS can get lost, take its GamePass and be a full 3rd party publisher.
@AdmiralBison I actually like your take on this 😆
I think that Xbox has not come out or mention a new console yet because they are looking to see Sony's new console and what improvements were made.
They have mentioned a next gen console you must live under a rock 🤷♂️.Everybody knows its Sony who waits to see what xbox does so they can copy them and its been that way forever
@@GoHardOrGoHome85 yep even most of the console reveals every gen I think Sony has always waited for xbox to go first. Which to me doesn't show market leader assuredness
wtf is you talking about you need to be worried about PlayStation they have no game wasted 400 million on concord Xbox got wayyy more games on the way what about Sony made games????🤡
Except Concord, Sony has better IPs and exclusives compared to Xbox. God of War, Spiderman, Death Stranding, etc..
I repeat it, I love Xbox but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't criticize what they are doing right now.

What happened all of Xbox's 2019/2020 announced games? What is the release year for Everwild, Fable, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3?
We know there are games coming to Xbox........ they are coming HALF A DECADE NOW. Avowed was supposed to be this year and is now 2025. Fable and the others probably will get pushed to 2026, no matter what anyone wants to claim might be the release year on any of them right now. And in the middle of all these no release dates.... they announce a new Gears? When will that be, 2027?
You need to get this new silly Xbox touted made up thing of a "roadmap" or "announced games" list out of your head because its meaningless when another company can just spring a GOTY game on to the industry in just a few short weeks.
@Ekwensummaara you don't have to ... Just like and subscribe ... It should be good enough 😜.
They pay a billion dollars to those developers, everyone wins.
Failure, while making billions, expanding its audience, and being prepared for the inevitable collapse of closed console generations.
@davis760 I feel I need to clarify again that this video is just focusing on the console side of things. I acknowledge in my video that Xbox (aka Microsoft Gaming division ;) ) has the best strategy. I just think that there is a possibility to still save the hardware side of the business.
@@FJGamerDad gotcha!
Console gaming is not attractive anymore. Just build a PC. Or have someone build it for you.
@KevTheGalaxybender Agreed. But there are also other options to explore if you are just looking to game. A gaming PC is not exactly cheap. Like I say in the video Cloud Gaming is something worth trying.
Console gaming is great right now. Its Xbox console gaming that is not attractive anymore. There IS a difference.
100% wrong console gaming is the best nintendo and sony rule.. xbox aka pc gamers stick with pc..
@@andrewsqualwhat is so attractive about ps5? I can pop ninja gaiden black in my series x. I wish I could insert my og resident evil 2 disc's in a ps5. But enjoy your upcoming remasters.
Your video makes no sense. Series s was a mistake, you even point to it in the video later. Slimy Phil and co at Xbox CLEARLY have no idea what they are doing, trying to see if anything will stick with every passing month. Again, series s was a mistake and slimy Phil was ONE...... HUNDRED..... PERCENT..... WRONG..... making this console.
You ARE right that the "world's most powerful console" thing doesn't seem to matter but you are only making this conclusion now with the PS5 Pro, when we KNOW this with the 8 million sold series x consoles after 4 years.
Xcloud??? You are bringing up xcloud as a vision for slimy Phil too? Ever heard of PS Now that went into Beta literally a decade ago in 2014? PS have been streaming games for years.
