Often compared to Elon Musk, Somphote Ahunai set up Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA) to provide Thailand with green products such as biofuels, solar and wind power plants, and of course, his range of EVs comprising buses, river boats and ferries and industrial heavy vehicles such as trucks, pickups and so on. Earlier there was a plan to produce cars, but that plan has been temporarily put aside because he said: “Once we build our brand reputation and once people trust in our brand, we can eventually move into passenger cars.”
Currently, EA’s fleet of E-buses and E-ferries are already out in force plying Bangkok’s roads and the Chao Phraya River since 2021. EA also produces lithium-ion batteries for the EVs through their gigafactory − the first ever in ASEAN − and charging stations under the brand name EA Anywhere. The grand plan is to turn Thailand into ASEAN’s EV hub.
