    This is a great method for repairing swales or resetting bolsters on kitchen knives too...do the major work on a belt, restore the edge geometry on a flat plate.
    I have no doubt this played into your decision process, but when recovering tips on folders if you're going to remove the material from the edge rather than the spine you should first check that when the knife closes the tip will still be concealed in the handle.
    Great vid, great content.

      Yes definitely, i always before sharpening check the closing and stop pin area to make sure everything will work, ive shown on other knives how if not sharpened properly that it will have issues in closed positions exc.. Which most people dont even thinnk about before sharpening, great point and now i wish i would have said that

    I had a chip off the tip of my yojimbo, but because the spine is perfectly straight down the wharncliffe portion, I just slid the knife back and forth on a cheap stone 'til it lined up. No one would ever have known and it took my all but 15 min.

    • @wigglywrigglydoo

      @@NeevesKnives thanks mate. Do you think that the DLC coating hinders cutting performance? Utility and defense wise. 5x5 has some pretty cool pickpocket gear and feel carry for Spyderco. Just gotta decide if I want the jumbo, not sure if it's too big to out in public with.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wigglywrigglydoo you would probably be better off with the yojimbo, the YOJUMBO is great but it's massive, the coating shouldn't create much drag, they will always create a tiny bit but hardly recognizable

    Great video was wondering how many sharpening like this can you do before it effects your hollow grind. And on a saber grind do you ever regrind the whole saber or flat edge on a full grind to keep the thinness behind the edge.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes i have in the past done the saber, part of the grind To thin it out, with a hollow you have a lot of sharpening before it gets thicker, i probably removed about 6 to 10 sharpenings from it, and it has a massive amount of life left its still the same thickness, but it boils down to how good you are at sharpening someone very good removes the least amount of steel when sharpening, someone just learning removes a lot

    Happy Birthday Kara. Got a blunted tip, can I use my dremel to put a point back on it?

    • @lavenderpants8695
      @lavenderpants8695 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are more likely to burn the steel (and ruin the heat treat) than you are too successfully put a tip back on it. Unless you are a Dremel master!

    • @_MiMo_
      @_MiMo_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! A dremel master I am not but wondering if tiny, quick grinds and maybe dipping it in cold water periodically as I go. Or maybe a diamond file would be safer.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sand paper works great, but as PANTS said you will have a very likely chance of burning but if at a low speed with water you would have to be a master with the dremel, sand paper, or stones would be best you could use a diamond rod or ceramic rod as well

    • @_MiMo_

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@_MiMo_ if its just blunted id just sharpen it out on a stone possibly start off just removing a little steel like i showed on a stome, then go to town sharpening, choil and jimp should be cake with your dremel

    the tip wasn't that badly damaged. normal use and resharpening would achieve the same result over time. grinding the edge back might give it a nice pointy tip, but the blade loses it longevity. this is a good video of what not to do.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not in this case imo, but if you watch another one that I did, which was far worse that's how I did it, it was a video on 2 knives that came in with broken tips and I repaired them back to new. Depending on how bad it is, I usually take from spine

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was from the edge yes if its from the spine no but it will shorten the blade a tiny bit, the way i did it is the best way especially since its a thin hollow, and a factory edge
