Kevin Bond once managed my team (AFC Bournemouth). I'm shocked that anyone else ever employed him. Kenny Jackett did quite well at other clubs to be fair.
Do not look now, but Rotherham is on pace for an equally worse season this year in Championship. They were relegated with 5 matches to play. (4W 11D 27L 32F 84A) and the remaining schedule is not easy: @Swansea / vs Birmingham / @Bristol City / vs Cardiff City
The mad part about the 19/20 League 1 season, my team (Bolton Wanderers) actually finished 4 points behind Southend, however, we were going through our own financial crisis at the time and actually started the season on -12 points.
Crazy how Donny went from relegated with a all time low points tally to returning to the football league and getting to league one, beat Leeds to get promoted to the championship, ended up back in league 2, most of the 23/24 season in a relegation battle, got McCann as manager and now 1 point off playoffs and 8 game winning streak, what an incredible club, saying this after Donny battered Accrington Stanley (who are they) 4-0
I don't think justice has quite been done to how bad that Doncaster season was and to quite the level of mismanagement they had that decade. That 7-1 loss to Cardiff was against a team that finished only 3 places above them in 21st, if I remember correctly. It took them over 20 games to win their first game and people were wondering if they'd ever win actually win one. By Christmas, they only had one player on the books and the team was comprised of simply youth players and one player later only got signed because he was the neighbour of the manager and hadn't done any more than Sunday League. Hell, they didn't even have a training ground so practiced in a local park. Overall, I think they had about 4 managers and they couldn't even do the job because the chairman insisted he pick the team instead. He completely pulled all financial support for the team and was so much a figure of hate that when he died a few months ago, there was a rather significant subsection of people that viewed it as not a moment too soon. What's the cherry on top is that he even tried to burn down the stadium for insurance money a few years before, but was still allowed to run the club (into the ground). The funeral may seem like harmless joking by the supporters, but we genuinely thought we wouldn't have a club after that season and that was the literal death of the team. People say the Glazers and Mike Ashley were awful but they've never had an owner like Ken Richardson. Derby were awful but at least they took it seriously.
Haha, that flop didn't age well specially as Ipswich just recently reached the Premier League for the first time in 22 years, earning their top tier spot with back to back promotions from League One to Premiership over the last two years. Let's see whether Norwich may join them being promoted to Premier League via the playoffs. That would lead the East Anglia Derby (aka "Old Farm") to be played at the top division for the first time since 1995. Yes, 29 years ever since.

To be honest, if you only take full seasons into account, Cambridge United is the worst team in the 3rd division in terms of points tally since the introduction of 3 points for a win in the English game [21 points in the 1984/85 League Division Three]
@@d.kennedy337 we still had least amount of points even if the season was cut short we definitely would not have got past 20 points especially conceding 5 goals week in week out
Sheffield Utd are currently 2 goals off taking our 38 game record off us, and only 13 away from your 42 game all time record, with 5 games to go! Manchester United Newcastle United Nottingham Forest Everton Tottenham Hotspur Let's hope those 5 clubs can help both of us look a little less embarrassing!
Indeed. Their -53 goal difference is still impressive to this day… for all the wrong reasons. LD is also right. With three games to go now and 97 goals conceded, I think Everton and Tottenham could have a bad day and still knock 3 past them each, regardless of the Forrest match first. Currently -63 goals. Ouch.
That wasn’t because of defeats, Bolton Wanderers won more matches and had less defeats than Southend, but had 12 points deducted in the end, that’s why
Stevenage fc 19/20 season had only 3 wins that season and 13 draws. 4 different managers and the only reason they stayed up was because two teams went bust that year.
I still can’t live down the fact that my team, Newcastle lost to derby and failed to beat them. But now Sheffield United have conceded more goals than Derby in their relegation.
Woodford United finished the Southern Football League Division One Central in 2012/13 with 0 points, having a goal difference of -164 and conceding 185 goals. They didn't do much better post-relegation as the following season they finished last on 3 points, losing all but 1 game and finishing with a goal difference of -200 having conceded 223 goals.
10:28 Wrong...Swindon Town hold the record for most goals conceded with 100 put on them over a season in 1993-94...But when Swindo. Swindon hold the record for the most goals conceded in 42 games. Plus they scored 47 goals with -53 goal difference with total of 30 points. Derby County had the record (until recently) of most goals conceded in Premier league history. 89 goals and goal difference of -69. Sheffield United now have the infamous record of 97 goals conceded with 3 more games to go and a goal difference of -63 (with of course 38 game season).
@fumblingdetective Yeah, I pointed out Swindon was a 42 game season...But even if Derby had played a 42 game season, based on the goals per game...they would have conceded around 98 or 99 goals conceded
