Halter Breaking Colts - BLOCKER / AUSSIE TIE RING

  • The worst part about halter breaking colts is tying them up for the first time. Usually when horses aren't used to being tied, they panic when the hit the end of the rope. After doing some research on Clinton Anderson's website, we decided on the Blocker/Aussie Tie Ring. It's helpful because it allows the horse to pull back without hitting a hard end to the rope, while still providing some resistance.

Thank you for showing me the tie ring in action. I did get nervous when she put her hoof through the rail!

I am curious about al of the tires down the rail. Also, good video you made with the ring. Advise folks to use a 5/8" yacht cord so it can slip a little easier, thicker will bind, ,thinner will run out fast. Also a good long rope so they can gat back a ways. I like 24', they generally only go back 12-16 feet anyway, but good video!

I agree on a longer rope. I have now started tying the colts with our lunge line, which is a 20’ yacht rope. The tires are along the fence to keep steers from running too close to the fence when they are trying to rope them.

I am insanely in love with that filly, her mind and her physical ❤️. Looking at options for tying my 4yo and weanling.

I really wanna try one of the tie rings but nervous because it sort of teaches them they can get away from the pressure as well if they reach the end of the rope. Tying is such a tough one!

They are wonderful! We have used them on a horse that was pulling back every time he became reactive (which was almost daily). We used a lunge line - so it was a longer pull before he got to the end. Then we purposely did things to create a reaction. The first time, he pulled the entire length of the lunge line. The next time only half the length. then the third time he didn't move it all. Once he realized that he wasn't going to get "trapped" in his halter when everything came tight, his anxiety reduced. Now he hardly ever pulls back (but we keep one on the trailer, in the barn, etc incase something sets him off)

They are smart enough to know when it's acceptable - The Tie-Ring saved my mare - she broke 2 "bungie ties" at the first barn I was at - they suggested I get one of these and it was a game changer - she "self learned" to tie well because she never felt too trapped.

Can I please ask you from where do you have a leading rope?

Maybe don’t use a rope halter. Use a breakaway halter.😊

So glad to hear it! We love it and have bought more of them for tying in our barn! They should probably sponsor us - LOL!

Exactly :-D I've already ordered 70 of these from Clinton Anderson for myself and my friends. I'm from the Czech Republic.
