撮影：2013年３月　宮崎駿のアニメ「もののけ姫」の舞台のモデルになったのが鹿児島県の大隅半島南南西約60kmの海上に位置する世界遺産「屋久島」。白谷雲水峡は屋久島の宮之浦川の支流、白谷川の上流にある面積423.73ヘクタールの自然休養林で、標高620メートルのところに入口があります。地元では「もののけ姫の森」と呼ばれる森の辺りは、宮崎駿監督が何度も足を運び、作品の森のイメージをつくりあげていきました。ですが残念なことに、作品に登場する豊かな森に棲むという一種の精霊のようなコダマやシシ神、山犬は、この森にはいません。

it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
there is Forest of The Princess Mononoke that became the model of the stage of animation director Hayao Miyazaki's movie The Princess Mononoke.
the Studio Ghibli animation, was inspired by the thick forests of Yakushima.
There are many parts in the film that match Yakushima's distinct scenery exactly.

Set in medieval Japan, Miyazaki's original story envisions a struggle between nature and man. The march of technology, embodied in the dark iron forges of the ambitious Tatara clan, threatens the natural forces explicit in the benevolent Great God of the Forest and the wide-eyed, spectral spirits he protects. When Ashitaka, a young warrior from a remote, and endangered, village clan, kills a ravenous, boar-like monster, he discovers the beast is in fact an infectious "demon god," transformed by human anger. Ashitaka's quest to solve the beast's fatal curse brings him into the midst of human political intrigues as well as the more crucial battle between man and nature.

This is the heaven on earth. I visited over 30 countries and this was the best place i visited in my entire life. I was only 2 times in japan but i want to continue. But i think will never visit a more beautiful place than Yakushima. Absolutly insane.
