How to center thermals with the paraglider (EN Version)

  • The supreme discipline here is to center the core in weak conditions and to break as little height as possible with a balanced technique. The main rules are: When it's rising open the circle until the rising again (then screw in), when it sinks close the circle or pull closer to get back into the upwinding zone. The weight is always shifted and it is much worked with the outer brake, so as little power-reducing movements disturb the flow. There are many good books on this topic.
    This highly simplified video should give you an idea of how to handle thermal centering - the principle is always the same. Our modern wings show us the rising air masses cleanly and indicate where the strong core and thus the center can be found. Sharpen your senses and try centering in the flow with your wing and the elements!
    I wish you a lot of success! ;-)

    No disrespect intended but I disagree. If entering at the same angle as this animation , all you need to do is follow the pressure on the right side of your wing , You will locate the core in one or two circles. Not six! You kept turning away from the lift. Best regards Dale

      Hi Dale, you are absolutely right with your statement! If you have a lot of experience, you will find the shortest route as you mentioned. This example will show you how the way to the thermic can go if you are not yet a professional. And remember that the pilot does not see the thermals, as you did in the animation :-)

      @@Abgeflogen Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I know you can not see the thermals hehehe, that's why its all about the pressure, its even faster than audio from vario. You feel your way in to the core, following the pressure also makes it safer. Entering the thermal at the angle as in this animation you will immediately feel more pressure pulling up on the right side , so , by starting a gentle turn to the right (including weight shift) will locate your thermal much faster, you don't have to wait 5 seconds (on this particular example) you already know left side is weaker and right side is stronger , so start your turn. Feeling that pressure is still on right side you tighten your turns to core the thermal.

    I am not convinced. Shouldnt u be turning slower when lift is increasing and turning in faster when u are out of lift or rising slower?

    • @svetre87
      @svetre87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually no, this video shows exactly the opposite of what you should do for centering the thermal. When lift is increasing u need to fly straight, and when lift decreases turn circle. That way u will always fly towards increasing lift

    Very good animation, can I use it with Spanish subtitles in my channel with the corresponding credits, off course???

    wouldnt the thermal be drifting with the wind?

    • @Abgeflogen
      @Abgeflogen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the wind is stronger, of course! This is just a simple model and you don't know from which side you hit the thermic ;-) Almost better to hit the thermic from luv side if you can see or just know it (clouds, terrain ...).

    The vario sounds are not correct (out of sync) and pausing is stupid unless you also pause the vario. Could be a lot better. Sorry, I give it 5/10.

    Clairement une mauvaise méthode !
    On ne conserve pas le même angle de virage quand l'ascendence augmente. On élargit le virage quand le vario augmente et on resserre quand ça faiblit. 7 tours au bord du thermique pour trouver le centre c'est clairement pas rentable ! 😂
