The Dickens book looks like a 1920's edition based on the cover design. Just a guess. Older books were made so much better than books today. I have Wives and Daughters and have tried to read it two times and keep putting it down. I have read Gaskell's Ruth and adore that book. But it was an accidental re-read too. Cranford was a sweet book. I liked that story too. I haven't read her other short stories. Oh, yes, I've also read North and South. A lot of people like that one; it's not my favorite. I unhauled it.
