I think Justin Timberlake felt pressure to shed the image he had with NSYNC because the toxic male misogynist culture of the time. I remember seeing a cover of Justin Timberlake on a magazine that said "Can we forgive Justin for all the sissy music? At least he got into Britney's pants!"-Details Magazine. NSYNC & Backstreet Boys were basically treated with the same hatred that young Justin Bieber was. The same way Justin Bieber acted out after that mocking of his masculinity, I feel as though Timberlake did the same to be taken more seriously after making music for teenage girls. THIS DOES NOT JUSTIFY HIS ACTIONS, however I do think it provides some cultural context for what his motivations may have been. After all, image is everything in Hollywood and he probably wanted to be seen as a bad boy instead of a bitch. Men suffer from toxic masculinity too.

To be honest I don't think Justin ever knew what lane he fell into because he would go from having a defined tone to just looking plain awkward. So despite what he's been called, he pretty much said FU to all of that without saying FU.....Overall I just think Timberlake is a lost little brother who doesn't seem to know who he is anymore and need someone to help him mold him image further. What he lacks is what artists like Miley Cyrus gained which is to be seen as she wants to be....

Exactly. Everyone loves to reduce everything to black&white/good vs evil. But that’s not how anything works. Let’s focus on how shitty and misogynistic our culture was and still is. Not take all of that out on this one random man that probably didn’t think he was doing anything wrong and is trying to deal with it now

People forget how obscenely hypermasculine the culture was in the 2000's. This was an era where it was not socially acceptable for men to engage with pop music. You were expected to listen strictly to rock or rap, and if you were caught listening to a female artist, you were assumed to be gay and shamed for it. I'm not saying the shit Justin did was good, but this constant need to hold people's actions from 20+ years ago to the standards of today is ridiculous. Existing as a man who made pop music already put a target on his back and he was expected to live up to the incredibly misogynistic, irresponsible, and downright brainless standards of socially acceptable male behavior. I remember EVERYBODY used to call him gay because there's no way a dude could be in a boy band singing pop songs and genuinely like women. He had his own demons too, and while his behavior wasn't good, we really don't need to keep harping on it over and over again just to win some easy brownie points online

One Direction also had a young teenage girl fanbase and were scrutinized the same as JB and NSYNC and they never once made fun of their audience or try to get rid of them, even after their breakup, individually, they all hold a female audience and have never been ashamed of it. 5 Seconds of Summer, another boyband who also came out at the same time, have made comments of wanting “another fanbase”. As a fan of both of them it’s sad to see 5SOS make their audience less just because they are girls and I’m forever a 1D stan for them appreciating their fans regardless of their gender.
Even nowadays, any artist with a teenage girl fanbase are made fun off even discredit for it. Of course, it was a lot worse then, mostly because the tabloids got away with soooo much more but still, the way the artist responds says a lot of how misogynist they are.

I don't think Justin could have prevented the backlash by saying something, but it would have gone a long way if he had questioned the fact that Janet was pretty much the only one being roasted! Is Justin the only villain or even problem when it comes to Britney? No. However he knew that saying he took her virginity and basically alluding to the fact she’s not really the good girl like he was so innocent is where he becomes the problem. Then the Janet thing and him keeping quiet while making jokes about it knowing she was getting so much flack for it is also dumb. It may not be totally okay but we can’t keep acting like Justin isn’t getting the backlash he would’ve gotten if the early 00’s wasn’t so harsh to women. He did have huge success with *NSYNC and his debut solo album but he didn’t come into his own until his sophomore album. After the halftime he disappeared from the spotlight for two years, came back with a new sound, and acknowledged some of his faults during nipplegate. With 20/20 he was able to establish as a legend. What America idiot was for Green Day is what the 20/20 experience was for Timberlake.

Listen, no Timberlake fan here, JC was my boo back in the day but Justin is getting quite a lot of flack I’m not sure he should and most of it is ages old drama between him and a teenage girlfriend. Continuing to drag Justin for what was done to Janet only reduces Janet to that moment in time. It’s not fair to either of them. Also, Britney is being infantilized to an extreme extent. She had autonomy, a lot of it, before the conservatorship and made LOTS of bad choices that harmed her career. She continues to today. Look at her current man! Such as Ginuwine saying that the Justin ‘Fo Shiz’ incident did not really happen. Or backup dancers confirming that Britney’s affair with Wade was more than just a kiss. Or Britney saying that the VMA kiss with Madonna was not planned, when there are rehearsal videos of them doing the kiss. I don’t think Britney is intentionally lying, but it is abundantly clear that her memoir is not the full truth. I do 100% believe that she has been put through abuse, but at a certain point she has to take accountability for the abuse she puts others through too (first and foremost her kids). At this point she’s in her 40s and still not taking any steps to correct her own wrongdoings, so I’m kind of done with the way we are expected to treat Britney with kid gloves. However, are we always going hound Justin over BS that has happened well over 20 years ago? Especially when none of us was there to know the truth? The issue with Britney is her mental illness. How much do we know is the truth and is not? Since her conservatorship ended, she knows she has so much power to say and do what she wants. Knowing her fans will continue to support her. While Justin has been moving forward with his life and career. Yet, she continues to have these mental issues. A one year failed marriage, drama after drama and now she's dating a convicted felon who has multiple kids. And as for Janet Jackson, it upsets me that he did waited years to defend her. Especially given how she's a female and how she's a black artist. The same black artist who he looked up to. As well as many others. However, when will the public and media stop acting like Britney is always a victim? When will it be time for her to take accountability for her actions? All those erotic videos/posts on Instagram. Are we supposed to pretend that everything with her is normal? Fans will ignore it until some serious mess happens to her.

He definitely tried to “be black” whether you want to admit it or not, it’s out there and it’s public. Britney even exposed him and his band mates as wanting to be more black which is just hilarious

He proudly painted Britney as the villain for years & quickly threw Janet under the bus. While the 2000's would have been hard on Britney & Janet both regardless, Justin's involvement made things much worse for them.
Let's not forget that he was the biggest culture vulture for the longest time. Riding the coattails off of other Black artists as well as Black culture in general, without ever doing anything to give back to the community that he profited off of.
Of course, there's also the fact that he's a terrible husband who has humiliated his wife multiple times. I know that when you're in love, it's not easy to just up & leave someone. Even if the relationship is horrible. But, hopefully Jessica will eventually find the strength to move on from him.
However, I do agree that Kevin Federline has done far worse to Britney. I'm also glad that she kicked Sam Asghari to the curb! I really tried to like him, but there were always too many red flags when it came to him.

He is NOT cancelled by many, many, many people and doesn't deserve to be cancelled at all for things that supposedly happened 20 years ago. The hate is so pathetic and sad. Pretty sure it was a combination of events.. The main one being he's old news.. Every breakout star loses steam..while Britney and Janet may factor in.. Man In The Woods was the start of his decline.. Aging boy band star.. Typical scenario..the Superbowl stunt was an absolute terrible idea.. Janet did not need such a juvenile move, so she's as responsible for thinking it was necessary..even if it didn't malfunction, it would have added nothing to that set..

I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again because it is important: Britney is a far more problematic person than JT. In 2008 she locked 1 year old Jayden (her son) in the bathroom with her WITH A KNIFE, not allowing him to leave, all while threatening to kill herself. The police had to get involved and after a three hour long standoff, they were finally able to get them out and she was carried out on a stretcher and put in psychiatric hold. To this day she still emotionally abuses her sons and sends her instagram fans after them so they will be attacked. No wonder they don’t want to be around her. She drove around with her sons on her lap when they were babies without any regards for their safety. This happened multiple times and not just when she was being followed by paparazzi. She is consistently rude to people (lashing out at Jack in a box employee who tried to comfort her, bullying Christina Aguilera and calling her backup dancers fat, starting a one sided beef with Selena Gomez.) She has even been accused by Sam Asghari for physically abusing him and hitting him in his sleep. There are literally pictures of him with a black eye. In 2010 she even had a s€xua| harassment lawsuit filed against her by her bodyguard which had to be settled in court, but of course people turned a blind eye to it because she’s an attractive woman. Worst one in my opinion: When Sean and Jayden were just 6 and 5, she deliberately fed them crab when she knew they were severely allergic to seafood. When the children started vomiting, she refused any medical attention and told staff to "mind their business." She would not accept any help. Those children could have died. That is child abuse. Nobody should support this woman. I’m not calling JT perfect at all and people have the right to talk about him because he has made mistakes, but Britney has done things way far far worse. Yet constantly her stans will look the other way and make her out to be the victim every single time, when she has also been the abuser multiple times. If you don’t support JT because you think he is problematic, but you do support Britney you are a massive hypocrite. If you cancel JT then cancel Britney too.

I still like him a lot and i think hes gotten way better but that doesnt mean that what i think he did was right when he was building his career. But on that same token, people need to hold Britney just as accountable as Justin, because they've both equally done problematic things.

I'm more happy to see people no longer liking this man. Like even as a child growing up I never liked him and then as I got older as a teenager and I would look into the shit that he would do and was said about him the more I really couldn't stand him.
Like I feel like the biggest red flag should have been when he was in his boy band and he literally had his security guard Yankee what 15 year old girl I believe it was into the hotel and bring her to his room so that he could berate and yell at her because she told him she thought JC was cuter.
There were literal witnesses who watched that happen as he had his huge ass bodyguard manhandle a child kidnap them so he can yell at them because he wasn't their faith because she like many others there were yelling and asking the boys for pictures or tell them how much they like them and he was ignoring the fans.
Not to mention every relationship he's been in he feels like it was always a power play whether you're talking about when he was dating Britney or Cameron clearly he couldn't stand dating those women because they were more famous than he was. His current wife I feel bad for her because there were always talks about how he was constantly cheating on her he was always breaking up with her he didn't really like her there was the several times he was seen with different models or people that he was working with on movies and stuff before they even got married.
Then when they do get married he still is allegedlycheating on her and it's crazy because they have it in their prenup apparently that every time he cheats he has to pay her money and he doesn't care matter of fact even when you look at their children both of their kids were born within 8 months after he was caught in a cheating scandal meaning that he either found out and his wife was pregnant and then chose to go out and cheat on her or she and him did not know that she was pregnant yet yet something in him made him want to go out and cheat on her.
Watching any interview or red carpet that he has done with his wife and the way he would absolutely talk over that woman the freaking interviewers will be talking to her about her career or her life and he will just randomly insert himself because he needs to be the center of attention.
The things he did to Brittany and then tried to paint her out to be the bad guy was absolutely horrible. The fact he was well aware of the Janet Jackson and his performance and the stunt they were going to pull then to sit there turn around and act like he had nothing to do with it when he saw the backlash and throw that woman under the bus which basically threw her career off track because it pissed off people who were able to take her music off of MTV VH1 bet and all these other places and she never recovered from that truly.
All the way to the fact that people forget that he was one of the original white boys / white artist who sat there and pretended to be Urban / black. I remember when he had that weird-ass blackcent I remember when he constantly sat there and tried to surround himself with black artists or people who are affiliated with them I remember when he sat there and went through his whole r&b era and for whatever reason he couldn't just be a white boy who did r&b because trust me they fucking existed even back in the eighties and nineties my afro-colombian grandmother was a fan of quite a few white men who did r&b and soul music on top of the black men who did it but no he had to sit there and pretend or try to insert himself into the culture and it was really weird. That man is a mediocre white boy at best a overly clingy attention whore at worst.
