  • It would border arrogance if anyone else said it, but few have stories like Davontae Sanford.

In situations like this, the "officers" should be sent to prison and serve the same time as their victims...
    That is true justice!

It may happen when the person is a white child they've done this too. Black boys and men are dispensable to our core structure. I say this wanting these officers and prosecutors (black too) to be terminated, arrested, and imprisoned.

The fact that the real criminal confessed within months but it took 9 years for his vindication is an even bigger tragedy that his conviction.
Unfortunately we live in a society that treats cops as perfectly honest people, beyond reproach far more than is humanly possible.
When the system benefits conviction over truth then anyone can find themselves convicted of a crime they didn't commit.

The lawyers probably entered into a 30/70% (or a 40/60%) arrangement if they won, but then they start to claw back everything they spent. Like $50 for pens x 15, stamps for $5 x half a dozen, five minutes updating a file costs a full hour, and all kinds of silly costs they take out before they disburse the money to the client. It's all hidden in the fine print that they don't disclose to the client when they enter into the arrangement. Lawyers are slimy. Ask me how I know?

Plenty of former inmates have channels on TH-cam, but they were guilty. It would be interesting to see a channel about the wrongfully convicted. There's a guy in Raleigh NC he should talk to first. He did 30 years for a murder he didnt commit because of lazy cops. They convicted him based on a drug dog they were trying to use as a cadaver dog. The dog didnt know what it was being asked so it sat and they took that as an alert. They finally overturned the conviction based on that and some other shady stuff RPD did.

Quick story or not so quick. My brother and I were in college and he was a Dean's list student who never got in trouble. I was the problem. LOL! My dad had fussed at my brother because he was moving slow and I had to get my car to the shop and he needed to get me to school. Dad told him that he better follow me. So you know siblings, I started moving. Jumped in the car and began speeding. He did the same thing. Outside of our subdivision while speeding, I saw this officer who always patrolled along that street. He was standing in this ditch area (more of a declined area). I said, "He got me!" But, he flagged me on and I said to myself oh, he's getting my brother. I was going to turn around but my brother didn't stop. So, when we got to the car shop, I asked my brother did the officer flag you on too? He said, I don't really know what he did but it was too late, I was pass him.
That officer knew the home our cars belonged too. He went there and got my dad. He asked my dad if my brother's car was registered in his name. My dad said they had words because the officer told him he was going to arrest my brother for attempted murder of a peace officer. He said....he was standing at the edge of the road and moved slightly in front of my brother's car and my brother hit the gas trying to run him over causing him to jump into the ditch. It was totally fabricated. He sat outside our home and waited for my brother to pull up. Dad went out and they had words again. My dad told my brother don't say anything to him and he'll be there to get him out. The officer told my dad, "That won't happen until Monday! He will spend the weekend in jail because it's after hours for Own Recognizance (OR) or you'll lose $10k cash bailing him out. He took my brother and by the time he got him booked in my dad was there and a judge had ordered him OR.
I thank God that I was more fortunate than some because my brother would've had his life and hard work turned upside down. My dad was able to get the charges dropped but, they followed my brother and almost cost him his career at Northrop Grumman. He or we were naive and didn't realize he needed to have those charges expunged. When he applied for the job, he was suppose to tell them he had been charged with attempted murder of a peace officer. If he had, he probably wouldn't have the job. That's the kind of stuff that can alter your life negatively. And, for what? I knew where he was standing. He was in the ditch with a radar gun waving. He waved me on and my brother was right behind me.

After lawyers fees, any medical fees & state & local taxes, he'll take home about 2 million.
That is still a lot of $$$, but people please don't get excited & think he'll take 7 million home.

Not sure if he will pay taxes as its a settlement and depends upon what was agreed upon. Hopefully the city will pay all taxes and all medical bills fines and such. His lawyers will get there cut.

    • @Tiggaknock

I think it’s widely known by lawmakers and those in the justice system. The problem for those stuck in the system is it’s much like the airline industry. They’re willing to sacrifice people for the bigger gain. Airlines budget for deaths each year knowing their planes will crash and they’ll have to pay out families hundreds of millions. Yet, they don’t care to put in preventative measures to keep people from dying, just a “fix stuff when it breaks” mentality. The justice system is willing to gamble because they don’t have to pay these people, the tax payers do.

The hitman was on The First 48 and he confess on the show. It was a lightskin big boody female detective who was interviewing him. She said, "I don't think he's not telling the whole", after he confess to 7 hits. I fell out of my chair, after she made that statement.

I pray that he shares his experience around the world. I would love for him to write about his experience.

True! Most Americans can’t even stand the notion of no toilet paper! They wouldn’t last 2 weeks in jail! And that’s if your guilty. Probably a couple of days if your innocent.

So what we are saying is that cops fabricate a crime and then they committed perjury in court and they get a slap on the wrist for this kind of nefarious behavior due to the fact that the police union will not let them go to prison for crimes that they create with impunity and are exonerated and you go to jail, then taxpayers foot the bill for any lawsuits against the city?????? Why shouldn't these crooked cops foot the bill for their fabricating lying and perjury? you as a person of color will go to jail for the same crime with no lenínency shown on your behalf. This shows how hypocritical and flawed the system is. Wake the hell up, we are being robbed of justice and they end up laughing in your faces!! Change these laws and vote the corrupt public officials out of office.

  • @emancify

Another sad addendum... Davontae was released in 2016 (it took 8 years to file a lawsuit and receive a settlement) and got shot in a similar neighborhood in 2017, where the original incident occurred. Couldn't the police see what they're doing to their community/individual citizens?
