I planted a berry tree, so I have extra soil. If you don't have any extra soil in your yard that you may check online for free soil pickup (people try to get rid of extra soil all the time). The last option is to buy regular soil, not fertilized soil.
It depends on weather, If less rain, it takes about a year for them to become dirt, otherwise, one month, two months, earth warms eat cardboard too which benefits the soil if rains often.

I googled “is cardboard toxic?”It raised some heath concerns. Maybe should remove it after grass are dead. You don’t want introduce toxic chemicals into your organic garden.

*我觉得在铺纸板之前你至少应该把下面的土翻一下，不然就算以后纸板降解了，植物的根系也无法向下延伸，因为纸板下的土都是黏土，而且蔬菜的根系不可能像草或者树木的根系那么发达。*

Lazzy洛杉矶生活 我以前都是拿着摌把土地一摌又一摌的翻开，也就是連草帶根通通拔了，翻了總共兩大片土地，最近的一片土地（第二片）宽6.5英尺X长33英尺（241.5平方英尺）因为疫情，所以我自己一人翻，翻了四、五天，前后用了大概12小時，天天翻到滿身大汗大汗，今天我用了你的方法做实验，如果真的成功，我準備再開第三片比較小的土地。
但是，我沒有完全按照你的方法（先放纸皮板再加上泥土），我只是在草坪上放了纸皮板，但並沒有灑水弄濕纸皮板，再加上一些水泥磚塊压住，每塊水泥磚的重量大約是十五磅以上，也許可以把草压死。等過兩周後我再看看，成不成功都告訴你。
