1:04 2 questions: 1) Why is he going SO FAST with no ditch lights? Are there no crossings in that area? 2) What the heck was that flash up near the headlights at about 1:06?
1) He accidentally had the long hood ditch lights engaged, you can see them reflecting off the front of the 2nd unit. 2) That was a rain drop hitting the camera lens.
The rhythmic sequence was actually created by legendary railroad engineer Casey Jones. A man of six-foot, four-and-a-half-inches, Jonathan Luther "Casey" Jones, who lived in Jackson, Tennessee, was nicknamed "Casey" because he was a country boy who was born in (differently-spelled) Cayce, Kentucky. Famous for being a living legend, a hero who saved a toddler from his own train - too much story to explain here - being able to play tunes on his steam engine's whistle (including the Shave and a Haircut's "tune" he'd created), and some personal "attributes" we can't mention here (since this is a family discussion), he died, again being an hero, saving passengers in a tragic train wreck in the year 1900, at age 37. And speaking of tunes, he's immortalized in the 1909 song, "The Ballad of Casey Jones."
It's quite funny hearing locomotive horns sound like musical instruments. Incident I was out watching trains in the same day I wrote this common, and I'm pretty sure one of the horns I heard was a Shave and a Haircut.
Yeah. I once saw a crow's carcass (just bones and about 5 feathers) sitting by Hilton Lake, right next to my house. Maybe a coyote (or a whole pack) caught it and devoured it. We do have coyotes here in the Seattle area, and they howl REAL loud.
2 questions. 1 what was the locomotive at 2:03 and 2 what model is that locomotive I am obsessed with trains boats and trucks and fire trucks mostly Fire trucks
“Shave and a Haircut” is a short 7 note call and response couplet that is popularly used in at the end of a musical performance for comedic purposes. Most people like use the rhythm of the tune as if it is saying “Shave and a haircut, two bits.” Here, engineers of various railroads like to use that tune for greeting railfans by blasting the horn/whistle of a locomotive. That’s intersting.
I’m still waiting to catch one I live in syracuse but my uncle lives in vestal and he used to be a engineer for the bay line in Florida but his friend works for Susquehanna and he switches the yard about half way to vestal for me it’s a tank yard and the tanks hold tar for suit-kote
So no one’s gonna talk about 0:34? Gotta be my favorite

4:34 What was the running number of this lead loco?
NS #7500
Doesn't have a P5 anymore. I got it leading and has a K5HL
Wow NS seems way more friendly than up and cp they rarely give a horn out here
I agree with that in part. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. Where I railroad up crews are friendly. But I understand what you mean
Atsf49 nope. I would say UP and NS are equal, you just have to get in the right spot and with the right person. NS is only included in this vid
NS is the only rail in the vid
Go to Elkhart, CP crews will give you a show
2:56 IS THE BEST ONE… AMAZING!!
0:34 - The birds are flying away! 😂😂😂😂
That’s awesome! # Shave and a Haircut, Two Bits!!! Support that train horn and say no to them quiet zones!
At 4:54 do you know why the horn was mounted in such an unusual spot?
Possibly an ex-EL. I could be wrong

You got yourself another subscriber!
You get a horn show and all I get is waves

If you do the honking motion with your hand they are more likely to do it
Hey Austin, Dakota trains filmed that train before at the 1:36 mark
What is the video at 3:38? Was there a second train?
Also, is the leading loco in that clip a SD60E or Dash 8.5?
K Nesslage - That was us blowing our horn at the train. The leader was an SD60E
Lol that's pretty cool! I could tell it had the very flat nose, but i couldn't see the rear to know what kind of loco

A flock of vultures will do that in an hour. They leave nothing for the flies.

What is a "Shave & A Haircut?"
Rail Faner for railways it's a horn salute
Also a type of knock
If your a railfan you should know

That's nice! I used to have a friendship (through waving and hornshows) with one of my local Amtrak crews, but lately I haven't caught that crew
No toon can resist the old shave and a haircut....
You catch so many RS3L's! I do know because of the Erie heritage unit that power from that line vsits the Dayton District sometimes.
NS 4000 has a P5, right?
What is a shave and haircut?
A tune played by the engineer. Look up shave and a haircut piano and maybe you’ll recognize it.
