For those of you who don't know, Philip was playing a tune composed by the late, great Larry Adler called Genevieve Waltz. That one tune, exclusively composed for harmonica, is the only song every written for harmonica to be nominated for an Oscar. That one song, that Mr. Achille plays beautifully, fed, clothed and educated Mr. Adler's family and children and put them all through college. Larry Adler would be quite proud of Mr. Achille's performance of his piece. Truly amazing!
Japanese would say: "Sugoi!" Indonesian or Malaysian would say: "Keren!" American would say: "Awesome!" and every body would give their thumbs to this man..
AMAZING! Ive heard Harmonica in classical before, but I havent seen a Harmonica player play classical music on this level before. OUTSTANDING. Philip is phenomenal !
i remember seeing this live on BBC2 on the saturday afternoon of the royal academy aniversary (which this particular prom was for) still remember it to this day, was stunning :) by far the best festival of music in the world every summer :p we are very lucky here :)
Ahhh...its so nice to hear pure harmonica now and then!! Beautiful playing and what a privilege to have that orchestral backing!!Excellent taptotpat!!! Made me smile all the way through!!
I keep listening to this over and over and over. He's an amazing musician and I'm astounded at the nuances he gets from his harmonica. It even inspired me to buy a chromatic harmonica! I read the reviews on one 14-hole model by Suzuki and when I checked the price on Amazon it was $800!!! Needless to say I bought a 12-hole $80 model. Now to learn to play it!
i take lessons from this guy in london, what a nice man. only ever wants a glass of water when he comes in, sits down and starts talking about all his favourite players and then remembers to teach me, such a nice dude.
One of my favorite pieces of harmonica ever and played to perfection. I first heard it way back in the 70's when I first got too see the film Genevieve and I have love it since then but never knew who played it. Now this brilliant young talent does great justice to this classic I long too learn, but it will be many years and I will stick too my new Blues Band and say thank you for bringing back some wonderful memories.:)
Dear Philip, our big friend!! I just listened to your wonderful performance in the London Royal Hall, I got the cold shivers over my body!!! Your way of playing the chromatic really is superbe, what a very good control of your instrument and your breathing. A number of tempo changes in your play and you play with passion, dedication and sensitivity, just amazing, our compliments. I would say: don't say anything and just listen to your wonderful playing, that's enough. Bye Chris and Mayka.
This really warms my heart. I play harmonica myself and Phillip Achille is taking this to the next generation. Too bad Larry Adler isn't alive to see this.
The great Larry Adler wrote this piece to score the movie "Genevieve". I love this piece. Written for the instrument by a master. Played here by another. Bravo!!!
Wow, I just found these clips of harmonicas by accident, I never thought of giving the instrument such respect for it`s tones, but when it`s played by a skilled musician gifted at putting forth such beautiful notes from such a small unassuming hunk of metal, it can make you appreciate it as much as a music fan would appreciate a concert pianist
i don't even like classical.. but Mr. taptotpat..philip... you change my way of thinking this is just outstanding performance you put on her for us and i wanted to say you are wonderful.. and i am out done.. thank you so much... and you are appreciated by me.. if no one else.. GOD BLESS YOU...
I've met Philip twice now, in Jersey when he performed with the Jersey Symphony Orchestra and on 29/10/2011 in Bristol at The National Harmonica Event, each time he was brilliant and a very pleasant friendly guy.
Philip will be performing in London at Hampstead Jazz Club on February 10th with his own band, playing a selection of jazz and classical arrangements. hampsteadjazzclub.com/whats-on/philip-achille/
Mr. Dudeman, I must say You totally have a talent to play that doublesided chromatic devil. You bring out the beauty of the instrument as I never knew it could be done. Well done and beyond...this was just like Christmas, thank you
My english teacher back in high school always made fun of the harmonica saying that "it's impossible to make the harmonica sound happy", when he was teaching the class about the culture of the blues, but in general he just didn't give credit to the harmonica. Watching this video, this is just amazing. I want him to see this so badly.
How good to see such intelligent comments, this video is really wonderful, there are many wonders together, the harmonica player, the orchestra arranger, it's great cry of satisfaction ... thanks for this video - hug from Brazil.
Absolutely awe-inspiring! This man is the reason why I took up playing a harmonica. I only wish I would eventually be at least half as great as him!! (:

this is such an amazing thing to hear! I never thought the mouth harp could sound so great! The only other harmonica player I've ever heard was Toots Thieleman and that was so long ago. Really cool!

That harmonica sounds so sweet he played it so well Larry Adler is clapping.
Or jealous?
@@AsadAli-jc5tg Just proud that someone played it as good as him.
He's not the jealous type he would have said well-done son.
Oh Philip. That was beautiful. Jim is so proud of you and I am proud to know you. Bravo.
You play the harmonica so well that the rest of orchestra was barely needed!
Your playing inspired me to start playing harmonica, so thank you.
Although the orchestra has made a great background for Philip Achille';s harmonica. Greetings from Poland, ItchyTasty! :-)

Adler inspired a LOT of people to buy a harmonica and take lessons. And . . . yes, absolutely, he would have liked this as much as we do.
@@nemo227 My dad had all the harmonicas he used. Always liked him since I heard his music in a film Genevieve.

Somehow, it sounds BETTER each time I listen. Bravo! Philip.
A great performance, amazing to get such a sound from the humble harmonica.
That was beautiful 👏🏽💖
He may be too young to remember “Genevieve” but he certainly captures the essence of that classic film.
He's done Mr. Alder proud.
Philip Achille and the John Wilson orchestra amazing combination.
Never tire of listening to this.
Marvellous.
Every musician, singers included, should have applause like that at least once.
I have never heard the harmonica sound like a beautiful classical instrument before! I have never heard it played so sensitively. Bravo!!!
A master craftsman at work ,makes the difficult look easy .If only it was 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
AMAZING! Ive heard Harmonica in classical before, but I havent seen a Harmonica player play classical music on this level before.

I'm speechless. I've never heard such beautiful music coming from a harmonica in my life. Truly wonderful.

Larry's legacy. This is great.
I never knew the harmonica could sound so beautiful!
His skill is so amazing! I REALLY can't believe the music comes from a harmonica!
It is sad that so many people don't take the Chromatic Harmonica seriously. It is every bit as challenging to play as any other wind instrument.
+Hardtop Harry Its a small wind instrument, In someways it is more difficult, like controlling your breathing,
Kyo Shiromibu Thanks for your support
+Hardtop Harry Thanks for support - I have sub ypu could you sub me pls
It is probably the most challenging wind instrument to play of all.To make it sound brilliant one has to be brilliant.
Fantastic... And a great Orchestra too. Mister Wilson conducting I believe. Keeping lighter music alive.
Thanks for this.

I watched this at the time and I was stunned, he's awesome.
The Genevieve Waltz was actually written as the love theme for the old English Cornelius film Genevieve.
It was indeed by the late and great Larry Adler. If only I could find some live footage of him playing it. Surely some must exist somewhere?!
The best...Der beste den ich jemals gehört habe!
Muss ich neidlos anerkennen.
Das größte Kompliment an dich, Philip.
Awesome. Beautiful. Very Talented..Genius. Bravo.
