Gerald was the best for the part of AJ and the way he stood up for Nikki was sweet

AJ had a right to say what he said to Alan because Monica got her job and Nikki lost the case And for Alan to tell AJ he was a disgrace to the Quartermaine and to tell him Jason is a better son Alan you had it coming

Unfortunately, I don't have more of this storyline. I only have these clips because the tapes sort of disappeared (ie, I lost them when I moved) right after I taped them. I never had a chance to tape over them. I only rediscovered them last year.

I did not blame Alan for not wanting AJ with Nikki. She did after all sued them for her father's death which was her fault. I understood his anger at AJ.

Boy Nikki played the sweet innocent victim card well didn't she, coupled with her innocent looks? Alan was right about her.

Monica maybe should have just given Alan a hug.

Alan had a lot of pain regarding AJ. Alan wasted his son's youthful years with arguments and affairs (Monica too). But to be fair, at this point AJ had made a LOT of bad choices and hurt people and was super entitled. Didn't AJ get a friend to mess with (assault) Sheila, the young nurse at GH? Then he tried to set up one of the young doctors by putting drugs in his locker? AJ was drinking and coming home late...and didn't he already have his first or second DUI? Didn't AJ also already have the affair with Nancy Eckert (a woman twice his age who was murdered)? Alan didn't know how to handle that disappointment. Alan also didn't know how to show emotion and love to AJ as he never got past the emotional upheaval and rejection when AJ was a baby. Plus, let's not forget that Alan is also just coming off of Monica falling back in love with David Langton and caring more about him while pushing Alan away (and they had only been remarried for a few months before Monica did that). A lot of things have happened and for AJ to bring Nikki back (when she was clearly using him) not only angered Alan, but Alan also knew that Nikki would ultimately use AJ for all he was worth, then leave him when he had nothing left. Alan was right. Still, Alan should have followed Monica's lead and backed off. Especially when AJ moved out with Nikki and was doing well. Alan should have left his son to his own mistakes - no matter what cost.

Wow " i thank god i at least have one son jason " god if i was aj i would turn out a drunk too. He favored jason so much. The watch scene was terrible & the crazy thing is the more jason defended aj the more it made alan love jason! I watched old clips alan even favored 2 year old jason over aj i think its bc jason was the baby of the family his real mom died and alan had to fight monica to accept him. He really was the golden haired beautiful boy that alan adored. Its amazing that they kept that history until aj " died" in 05.

Alan never got over his belief that AJ was Rick Weber’s son. Even after it was proven than Alan was AJ’s biological father, he could never seem to get past it. His pattern of not loving AJ was set.
Jason’s first years were filled with turmoil, his mother unstable and eventually a drunk. Alan visiting him only periodically and Monica openly rejecting him, and then his mother being murdered. And him having to live with Heather Weber. Alan went out of his way to make up to him for his unsettled life, showering him with love and attention. And Jason was one of those loving, happy, little babies that are so easy to love.
By the time Jason was moved into the Quartermaine home, the patterns were set. Alan overcompensated with Jason because of his guilt. He tried to love AJ, but was not able to do so completely. As the boys grew up, AJ sensed that Alan loved Jason more. And he responded by being difficult.
Jason on the other hand was so easy to love because of his sweet nature and perfect behavior. AJ both loved Jason and was jealous of him. The more rebellious and withdrawn AJ became, the more Alan found it hard to love him. A visions cycle began that they were never able to break.
And AJ’s alcoholism gained a life of its own. As Jason once said, the reason an alcoholic drinks, is no longer the issue. Even if that reason is corrected, he will still be an alcoholic.
He has a disease and his body will continue to crave alcohol. He can learn to control his disease, but he will always be an alcoholic.
It took AJ a long time to accept that. He was always looking for the easy fix. He thought if he could fix what caused him to drink, he could quit drinking.

Alan seemed to have a knack for saying the wrong thing to his sons when he was disappointed in them. After the accident, he told Jason that he had become the embodiment of Alan’s failures. And Alan talked about how when he looked into Jason’s eyes, they were cold and had no part of him in them.
And another time he expresses his disappointment by saying how his perfect son has become a brain damaged criminal. And he never understood why Jason pulled back from him, but allowed Monica a place in his life.
Who would say something like that to a young man just a few weeks out of a coma with brain damage, a young man was struggling with losing his own identity, and his place in a strange world where he had no connections.
People talk about how cruel Jason was to his family after the accident, but nothing tops the cruelty Alan heaped on Jason because of his own disappointment.

@@beegee1960 I saw that part of the show somewhat differently!! What really drove Jason away were two things - 1. After returning to the mansion hearing Monica say how Jason couldn't even take the bus much less continue at PCU (Alan wanted to suggest Jason try college). That hurt Jason and made him self conscious about being stupid. 2. When Alan told Jason that he was the BEST part of him and made him look good. That pressured Jason to be something that he no longer was and he needed to leave. I remember Alan telling Jason that he could leave the Qs with his blessing if Jason just did four weeks of rehab to make sure that he was strong enough... Alan (and Monica) only cared for Jason and did their best by him... But Edward was brutal and hard on Jason. In the end, Alan and Monica should have shut Edward up. LATER, when Jason was working for Sonny is when Alan said things he could not take back. But Alan was hurting and grieving horribly as he'd lost another son that he loved so dearly and didn't know how to cope.

@@beegee1960 You're spot on about Jason. Also, Alan once said that Jason was his "second chance" at being a father. The hurt of Rick and Monica telling Alan that he was not AJ's father (which would have also humiliated him in is father's eyes) drove Alan to the depths of depravity and anger. It could have destroyed him, and I remember the scene where Alan was finally defeated and intended to leave PC to get over Monica's betrayal, he told Lesley that he wanted to find a place of peace. She told him that if he did, to let her know because she wanted it too. Alan was destroyed by the loss of AJ as he LOVED that child from the moment Monica told him that she was pregnant. Yes, Jason had a rough beginning (Alan was not even present for his birth - and in fact did not know where Susan was exactly - he had to hire a PI to find out). And yes, Alan saw AJ with the train and the family and knew that Jason was alone...and that drove him closer to Jason as he was the son that Alan could be sure was his. Later on, as you write, Jason was the good son. I remember in 1988 when AJ ran away from military school, Monica asked how Jason was and the guy said how Jason had tons of friends and had won an award for an essay. He was only supposed to be about 8 or 9 at the time. So, Jason began as the "perfect" son beloved by EVERYBODY that he met. And AJ the son with all kinds of promise - but a boy who CRAVED the love of his mother and father. AND, both boys craved that their parents stop cheating and leaving each other and wanted no fighting and stability. But Alan never got over Rick and Monica never got over Alan's need to live up to Edward's demands and past both of their petty put downs.

Ok....i understand being disappointed in your kids but damn Allan was cruel....and with all of the reasons being listed about what was done to him, i felt nothing for him....he was the adult, he knew exactly how he felt with Edward as his father, and instead of trying to change, he behaved just like Edward.....sometimes worse....towards his own son....so his wife had an affair....big deal.....he was not sure about PJ being his but then found out truth....why spend so many years dwelling on that....Monica came to terms with jason eventually and she loved his just as much as she loved PJ....imo....Allan made to much excuses for his son's crap and they never really let PJ accept responsibility for his actions....they fought his battles for him, and they hid all of his mistakes.

Loose theory here: was it 1991 that Gloria Monty came back to the helm? I remember the show getting almost totally revamped and Dawn was DEFINITELY on the chopping block. I feel like her character was killed as a nod to say "time to go!". So.....was the Nikki story another way of trying to give Monica another daughter in a way? I mean, I know she turned out to be horrible, but still.....It just seems like in the course of a few short years, no matter who was at the helm, they could have figured out something else to do besides bringing about even the possibility of Monica having a long-lost child

I'm glad that Alan admitted he failed AJ......AJ had his issues but knowing your own father and family favor others is a tough thing to live with.....but Alan lost his goldenboy in Jason so in a way things come around. Maybe now AJ can make amends and put the past behind him.

@MrCraigblaze Nikki was the daughter of Monica's former lover while she was in medical school. Nikki sued Monica (and Bobby) for malpractice when her father died while he was her patient.
