    I just built my first AR. I wasn't sure if the tube was too far in or what the depth was supposed to be. That cutout showed me my tube was in properly. I have been useing my SKS and PCC for many years so the AR platform is still new to me. Thanks

    My understanding is if you use a shorter gas system with slow burning powder like .223/5.56 or .308/7.62 your gonna get a lot of dirty gas. I don’t know how significant this is. However I know CMMG says it was a reason they didn’t make a .45 ACP PCC with AR style DGI. I think it could become an issue but would probably only be an issue with large amounts of ammo I’m guessing.

    What does it mean when your rifle keeps blowing our primers? Mid length gas system, 16" barrel. 62gr. Also a round struck the muzzle brake

      Way too much gas and non-concentric threading on the barrel. IE that gun was built like a POS.

    How would too much barrel after the gas port cause malfunctions? I was thinking a mid length would be nice to have on a 10.5. Maximizing that dwell time. Especially when it comes to running a can.

    • @prairiepatriot2162
      @prairiepatriot2162 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aside from the fact that too much gas will cause excessive wear and shorter service life on parts from them slamming harder than they should one thing that it will also do is increase bolt velocity. When mag springs weaken from use it feeds the round more slowly. If you have a combination of round being fed too slow and bolt moving too fast, you can get a failure to feed. One remedy is newer springs, which again speaks to the issue of shorter service life on parts. One other possibly issue is bolt bounce. One possible remedy would be to add a heavier buffer system which then adds more weight.
      Mid-length gas systems won't work on 10.5" barrels because they are only 9" long and 1.5" does not allow for nearly enough dwell time to reliably operate the gun without opening the gas port excessively.
      Simply put, you want and need a properly balanced out gas system so that everything works as it should. One of the easiest ways to tell if your system is working as it should is by looking at where the rounds are ejecting. If the rounds are ejecting at 3 O'clock to 4:30 then it is where it should be. If it is 12-less than 3 then you're overgassed and 4 or greater then you're undergassed.

    Can you elect to run a direct impingement system on a 9mm?
    The fact that no one seems to do it, suggests it’s impractical, but can it be done well?

    Good day. Need an assistance here. I got ww src 308 16.5 inch barrel 1|10 twist. Mid length gas tube, adjustable block. It looks like it likes 175 grain bullets the most. Now - I'm trying to shoot nexus 170 subsonic. And as it should be it does not cycle. Which is the way to go for it work? change bolt carrier to lighter one? change Buffer spring and buffer same way? Use barrel with longer gas tube? I do understand it was not designed to cycle subsonic. Still wondering how ti can be done and whether here is someone who got one working. Thanks.

    so if my gas system is 9 inches then its a mid length? Because i keep seeing like on ebay that 9in is carbine length or does that just mean 10 to 16 in barrel?? I just don't know if I have a mid length or carbine length 16in ar15

      There are straight pull and even pump action AR style guns. You might start by just looking those up. Then maybe see if those companies sell just the barrel. I’m not sure though

      Stainless steel is metal. Melonite is a finish that is applied to stainless steel.

      +Knuckle_Bump Use a tire pressure gauge from ye olde auto parts store!. Just kidding! :) Seriously, a good question. I'm sure someone makes some sort of measuring device for it though.

      Which direction of the spent brass would be an indicator then? Please explain.

    • @Lunch_Peak
      @Lunch_Peak 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Knuckle_Bump If the muzzle of the gun is 12 o'clock you want your brass ejecting in about the 4 o'clock direction. 3 o'clock would be brass flying direct sideways perpendicular to the barrel, 4 o'clock would the brass flying sideways with a slight rearwards vector as well. Hope this helps! **I am not a gunsmith, just an enthusiast**

      @@burtonh1 if your brass is shooting one or two o'clock, you're over gassed. Three and four o' clock, you are gold. Past four o' clock and you are under gassed and underpowered. That happens with steel case a lot.

      Has anyone responded to you from Brownells???? I am just curious. There is a great FB group that has a lot of information to share. Let me know if you can't get any information. Just be patient with me unless you respond immediately tomorrow or the next day. I don't usually check this email account that often. Just letting you know but I can set you up with the right information and group(s) on FB. Cheers....
