In the case of land reform here's the sad situation .. The lucky farmers who acquire DONATED lands do not have the EXTRA RESERVED capital and resources to CONSISTENTLY produce maximum yield on their crops. Since the Phils is a TYPHOON PRONE country, ONE serious FLOODING and their crops are wiped out !! With few/no RESERVED capital, the broke farmer is forced to SELL BACK the land to the original hacienda owner, often at BARGAIN prices. So the farmer is back to square one, often with smaller resources. And the Hacienda owner ? The government BUYS his land and GIVES it to the farmer. After a disaster, the hacienda owner RECOVERS his donated land at BARGAIN prices. So he is a double winner in the end !! This is why land reform fails !! . The farmer can not afford even a SINGLE disaster to go on. In Tagalog - MAIKLI ANG PISI NIYA !! And since we have yearly STRONG TYPHOONS, government can not afford to PERPETUALLY BAIL OUT the farmers every time a disaster strikes. The oligarchs can, the government can't. That's REALITY Check for you !! Government can t even solve the YEARLY flooding in some areas ! How can she solve agricultural issues ??
Land reform is BS here in PH. The American's should've stripped all land from post-Spanish feudal lords and redistributed them to poor people while forcing the Insular Government to educate these poor people. They did something similar in Japan, just not sure why they didn't do it in PH.

I think the main problem in the Phil economy is very restrictive from foreign investments. Compare to our neighbors, this is the only big factor that i can see the difference. I agree! Foreign investors can not own 100% of a company based in the Philippines. This will turn away foreign investors in investing in Filipino companies. The only foreign investment you’ll see are foreign companies opening a satellite operation in the Philippines. Listen Filipinos!!! You need to wake up. First of all let's address the poverty line. I believe as of 2022 if a family of five had an income of more than P12,030, they were NOT considered poor. You have got to be kidding me!! That is ridiculous. P12,030 a month, for a family of five, is about 79 pesos per day for each person. Yep, that's it. Anyone that has lived in the Philippines for even six months knows that poverty line is far far too low. It is close to impossible to even have basic needs for that amount. This is why you see so many Filipinos living in houses that most people around the world would be horrified to live in. This is why you see so many Filipinos with not enough food to eat, or BARELY enough food to eat. This is why you see so many Filipinos with barely anything to their names. The biggest reason for poverty in the Philippines is NOT Crony Capitalism. Yes, it is a problem. But the biggest issue for so much poverty in the Philippines is the average Filipino. They are passive. The most passive, don't give a shit people I have ever seen. They don't seem to care much about education or ambition. They don't seem to care if their city streets are clean. They just don't seem to care about much except for FB and some silly ignorant day time TV shows that come close to PROMOTING poverty being a good thing. replace crony capitalism (corruption) with colonization and you’ll see a lot of similarities between Philippines and other struggling countries with histories of colonization by the Spanish and America. Most businesses here in the philippine are real estate oriented, because those with capital can buy lowball and buy hectares of land for a cheap price and develop them often guessing and inflating the price to sell them on a higher market value which of course is not regulated thus agricultural lands get converted to commercial lands, which is the most easiest way to make money here by investing in real estate then food security comes in and most of the food in the Philippines are expensive because they're imported especially the rice which is the staple food of the Filipino families. That could also factor why manufacturing and other industries don't thrive here and foreign investors shy away to set up a business in the Philippines since utilities such as electricity and water are privately controlled meaning profit comes first instead of public service that should've the government deliver to the public but no.
I've seen similar numbers on those living below the poverty line in the Philippines 🇵🇭 but after having lived here for over 4.5 years 🇺🇸 I honestly believe that the number is much higher than reported and I think it's because some, too many, people here are so "forgotten" that they aren't included in the statistics unfortunately

The colonized still thanked the colonizers after independence, without any self-respect. This spirit determines the upper limit of the Philippines' development. A constitution that is written to benefit a few wealthy influential families who give out crumbs to their favoured friends, a protectionist trade policy that places exorbitant taxes on imports (even when the items being imported do not pose a threat to local manufacturing), and so much red tape and financial barriers to prevent entrepreneurs from starting a business and you have a recipe for inequality, limited choice and price gouging. On top of that you also have barriers to DFI which discourages investment (compared to neighbours) and ridiculous levels of taxation. When you add all that up it’s no wonder the best and brightest leave the Philippines to seek success abroad.
The status of the countrys economy depends on the proper governance of government. There is a high population but visibly its not productive to generate revenue to the country. Unemployment and underemployment is a majority percentage. The Philippine is rich in resources and has money for proper use but corruption never ceases specially within the government😢.

I think the survey is quite wrong There is no basis at all .Most young Filipinos has gone to schools up to college level since in almost provinces has state colleges and universities that allowed young Filipinos were able to study up to university level or graduated with bachelor degrees which are free education or studied in Technology courses
Free education doesn't mean innovation. Employees could provide taxes for public schools but it's up to students on how they will use their diploma. You can have a degree yet still have a minimum wage. It could also depend on the quality of our education system if it will translate well to the economy. I understand that free education is necessary, but some of our fellow filipinos (teachers and students) leans towards the mindset of "low drive and competence" because it's free.
But once they graduate there's no work for them, I came across a university in manila one day I'm an expat and I noticed a huge billboard infront of the university which read " 100% graduate" do the math, its a fly by night education, if you fail you pay the teachers and they pass you, Ive known Engineers with 4 year degree working as stock clerks at a hardware store. The Philippines doesn't use their resources correctly, due to rampant corruption this country will remain a 3rd world poverty country.
Philippines also has education problem in its own culture, we tend to compare ourselves to the US by following it's laws and system which is sucks since Philippines is really different from the US. Because of it skilled people tend to leave because they don't have the sense of identity due to foreign smell of the country.

You completely missed the point of the video. The government should always be accountable for whatever the state of the country is. People who are voicing their problems with the government shouldn't be labeled as "dependent to the government/lazy". If you look around, the people who are in the lowest socioeconomic level could not, in any way, improve their lives without a proper assistance from the government.

I watched this when it first was published months ago.. I made a few comments then and as I reviewed them just now, NOTHING has changed for the better.. In fact it has got worse.. As a foreigner living here for many decades with a family life, I have thrived and so has my family.. I have watched almost every pathetic decision by law makers be TOTALLY accepted by the Filipinos and watched Filipinos blame everyone else EXCEPT themselves for where they are at.. (IN A VERY DEEP HOLE for about 80% )). Filipinos must LEARN about true democracy first.. Those lessons are not free... They come with a very big cost and taking money at elections is not the place to start the study.. I retired at 40 and am now 76 and still earning from my investments from CAPITALISM and DEMOCRACY.. (And I am not American).
Because the government allows the practices that results in inequality. The legitimate employees are the only citizens paying the right taxes because the tax is automatically deducted from the salary. If I'm not mistaken and if the information is still legit, Filipinos pay the most taxes among its Asian neighbors.

Video doesn't take into consideration the natural environment challenges that Philippines has vs other Asian countries. Philippines is an isolated island which means that importing and exporting factors are much less feasible in both foreign and domestic eyes. Then don't get me started with all the climate issues along with the location. Haiz.. So what can we do about it? Export people skills. Ramp it up. Why? Because we Filipinos will invest back into our homeland no matter what. Think (nurses, doctors, hospitality) why are we so good at it. Cuz we got people skills. Ramp it up. There's other issues like education and culture. It’s a lovely country with equal opportunity for everyone and wonderful culture. The only glaring flaw is the lack of universal healthcare. The concepts in the video are meaningless in the real world. In the real world, all countries are effectively the same system. Some are producers and the rest are consumers.

They even share their food to their neighbors.Try to look to the small houses in a community that you may think are poor.Surely, you will surprise what are inside of this small houses. The lucky farmers who acquire DONATED lands do not have the EXTRA RESERVED capital and resources to CONSISTENTLY produce maximum yield on their crops. Since the Phils is a TYPHOON PRONE country, ONE serious FLOODING and their crops are wiped out !! With few/no RESERVED capital, the broke farmer is forced to SELL BACK the land to the original hacienda owner, often at BARGAIN prices. So the farmer is back to square one, often with smaller resources.
And the Hacienda owner ? The government BUYS his land and GIVES it to the farmer. After a disaster, the hacienda owner RECOVERS his donated land at BARGAIN prices. So he is a double winner in the end !! This is why land reform fails !! . The farmer can not afford even a SINGLE disaster to go on. In Tagalog - MAIKLI ANG PISI NIYA !! Land reform is BS here in PH. The American's should've stripped all land from post-Spanish feudal lords and redistributed them to poor people while forcing the Insular Government to educate these poor people. They did something similar in Japan, just not sure why they didn't do it in PH.

You have got to be kidding me!! That is ridiculous. P12,030 a month, for a family of five, is about 79 pesos per day for each person. Yep, that's it. Anyone that has lived in the Philippines for even six months knows that poverty line is far far too low. It is close to impossible to even have basic needs for that amount.

Most businesses here in the philippine are real estate oriented, because those with capital can buy lowball and buy hectares of land for a cheap price and develop them often guessing and inflating the price to sell them on a higher market value which of course is not regulated thus agricultural lands get converted to commercial lands, which is the most easiest way to make money here by investing in real estate then food security comes in and most of the food in the Philippines are expensive because they're imported especially the rice which is the staple food of the Filipino families.
That could also factor why manufacturing and other industries don't thrive here and foreign investors shy away to set up a business in the Philippines since utilities such as electricity and water are privately controlled meaning profit comes first instead of public service that should've the government deliver to the public but no.
I've seen similar numbers on those living below the poverty line in the Philippines 🇵🇭 but after having lived here for over 4.5 years 🇺🇸 I honestly believe that the number is much higher than reported and I think it's because some, too many, people here are so "forgotten" that they aren't included in the statistics unfortunately

I think the survey is quite wrong There is no basis at all .Most young Filipinos has gone to schools up to college level since in almost provinces has state colleges and universities that allowed young Filipinos were able to study up to university level or graduated with bachelor degrees which are free education or studied in Technology courses
Free education doesn't mean innovation. Employees could provide taxes for public schools but it's up to students on how they will use their diploma. You can have a degree yet still have a minimum wage. It could also depend on the quality of our education system if it will translate well to the economy.
I understand that free education is necessary, but some of our fellow filipinos (teachers and students) leans towards the mindset of "low drive and competence" because it's free.
But once they graduate there's no work for them, I came across a university in manila one day I'm an expat and I noticed a huge billboard infront of the university which read " 100% graduate" do the math, its a fly by night education, if you fail you pay the teachers and they pass you, Ive known Engineers with 4 year degree working as stock clerks at a hardware store. The Philippines doesn't use their resources correctly, due to rampant corruption this country will remain a 3rd world poverty country.

Philippines also has education problem in its own culture, we tend to compare ourselves to the US by following it's laws and system which is sucks since Philippines is really different from the US.

You completely missed the point of the video. The government should always be accountable for whatever the state of the country is. People who are voicing their problems with the government shouldn't be labeled as "dependent to the government/lazy". If you look around, the people who are in the lowest socioeconomic level could not, in any way, improve their lives without a proper assistance from the government.

I made a few comments then and as I reviewed them just now, NOTHING has changed for the better..

As a foreigner living here for many decades with a family life, I have thrived and so has my family..
I have watched almost every pathetic decision by law makers be TOTALLY accepted by the Filipinos and watched Filipinos blame everyone else EXCEPT themselves for where they are at.. (IN A VERY DEEP HOLE for about 80% )).
Filipinos must LEARN about true democracy first.. Those lessons are not free... They come with a very big cost and taking money at elections is not the place to start the study..
I retired at 40 and am now 76 and still earning from my investments from CAPITALISM and DEMOCRACY..

The legitimate employees are the only citizens paying the right taxes because the tax is automatically deducted from the salary. If I'm not mistaken and if the information is still legit, Filipinos pay the most taxes among its Asian neighbors.

Capital Cronyism is too simplistic to blame.. yes we have it... corruption yes we have it...Natural disaster each country have its own unique problems(Cold countries have 6-8 months of winter cant produce plant and food , some are too hot for 6-7 months same thing).. every country in the world have it. What it comes down too are numerous and problematic issues.. no discipline (sarap pauluin yung mga pasuway) meron naman mga displinado pero kakaunti pa rin (nasisira ng ulo kakasuway), stupidity (sama mo na yung mga anak ng anak kahit walang mapalamon, next generation parehong pareho sa mga magulang tapos magre reklamo mahirap pa rin daw sila walang asenso and the cycle continue) gastos on stupid things, bili ng bili na hindi naman kaya at namamahalan kahit hindi kailangan.. mag ipon naman or mag invest), bakya mentality (Tiktok ng tiktok or nuod ng nuod) uubos and oras sa kabastusan o kalokohan, di mag aral ng matino para ma elevate yung pag iisip...or mag trabaho nalang kayo.. " pwede na yan mentality "( brings standards very low... bangketa na lang, hindi pa maayos at a maintain.. dami tambak sa tabi, puro basura, nakakapatid ng kapwasa sorang dami) or just winging it., and an irritating trait utang na loob which are weaponize and abuse by the people pursuing it. Video doesn't take into consideration the natural environment challenges that Philippines has vs other Asian countries. Philippines is an isolated island which means that importing and exporting factors are much less feasible in both foreign and domestic eyes. Then don't get me started with all the climate issues along with the location. Haiz..
So what can we do about it? Export people skills. Ramp it up. Why? Because we Filipinos will invest back into our homeland no matter what. Think (nurses, doctors, hospitality) why are we so good at it. Cuz we got people skills. Ramp it up.
There's other issues like education and culture. Culture of pH is that bribery is so embedded in our culture it happens in the smallest of transactions and it's not even seen as "bribery", it's a gift. 😅
The natural environment certainly don't help the Philippines, but 95% of the problems Phil people are facing are caused by their own culture. Let's be honest. It's a very pri-mitive culture. Phil people are not interested to adjust their culture to the 21st century.

Thats not quite true that there is equal opportunity for everyone. This is due to colorism. The darker your skin the less opportunity there is. Most of your Malls paying jobs are held by light skined Filipinos.

I don't think Philippines lives mostly below poverty line. Most of the Filipino household owns complete appliances and they cook many times a day. They even share their food to their neighbors.Try to look to the small houses in a community that you may think are poor.Surely, you will surprise what are inside of this small houses. There some owns computer or even laptop.there are some own even cars and motorcycle.But they look so naive and poor.

The prblem is since 1986 after the aquinos took over the phil!! The infrastructure developtment is neglected!!! On those years years only 2 percent of gdp is allocated to infrasture improvement!! Not until the duterte administration that phil allocated 6 percent of gdp to infrastructure improvements!!! And also this marcos administration!!!! Did you know that in 1984 marcos built the very first elevated electric railway!!! And a nuclear power plant in bataan!! And in that year marcos plan to built a subway in manila!!!
