It was hard to grow up and understand that I need to protect myself, but you know what? The sweetest part of it is the result: I've managed to get into a phase where I still can be that "innocent and naïve" as before, but not feeling ashamed or guilty for that anymore. The attachment styles can change as we heal. People can outgrow of dysfunctional relationships. Surrender to the change. Help yourself to heal.

I used to have a terrible attachment style, some kind of a mix of anxious and avoidant. During the past year, I've studied a lot (books, videos on yt, fb groups, etc.), I really indulged in my hermit mode and it's been helpful, for sure. I'm learning the be "securely attached" to my true self. To understand that I do not need other leople's validation.
It's a long journey.
And it doesn't mean that I stopped loving the person who is not mine, no. That huge pain inside is still there. I keep working on myself and praying. Hoping that one day, when we both get to be able to come together, we will. I hope it's gonna be soon.
But I still keep in mind all the legal obligations, the moral values, the psychological part regarding children and other people involved, you know. I'm staying grounded and am doing the work.

This reading might sound weird but describes the situation pretty well. It's a person in my family, surprised that I no longer serve them.
It was hard to grow up and understand that I need to protect myself, but you know what? The sweetest part of it is the result: I've managed to get into a phase where I still can be that "innocent and naïve" as before, but not feeling ashamed or guilty for that anymore.
My narcissist told me not to be so open and warm-hearted with other people. But he himself loved to take advantage of me. It took me years to understand that I don't need to stop being me. I need only to select the people whom I can trust. And, unfortunately, he's not one of them.
There are still a few genuine and kind-hearted people around who are "safe" to be with. Not many, but they exist. And my kindness and "childish" treats don't embarass them, they love me no matter what. And that's pure joy.
It helped me to clean my connections in general. Also at work and at school, there have been people who tried to take control over me, but I didn't let them. And they don't like it. They were used to manipulate people like me, and all of a sudden, it doesn't work anymore. Oh, what a headache I gave them! I'm sorry, not sorry.
