An amazing documentary, you would never have known his story whilst he was on Dragons Den for two years, his traumatic upbringing, his ups and downs throughout his life, but great to see his relationship with his siblings, and through his own ambitions to do well, it has certainly paid off, despite his failing relationships. Thanks for telling his story.

Enjoyed this very much. Richard was always one of my favourite Dragons in the Den. To see how he started out and how he had worked hard and achieved well gets my respect. Some people who do well in life forget where they come from, but Richard dosn't seem to. Wishing him the very best.

What an incredible inspiration this man is... He has so much to teach others about forging ahead "in spite of" so many underserved, painful hardships. I wish him a long, happy life and continued success.

Richard, wow, just wow, to face that adversity and come out on top, impressive beyond measure. You are so fortunate to have that relationship with your siblings - beautiful to see. If I may ask politely, if you could back a cure for Type 1, please..........😊

Cricket Smith Is this tears rolling down your face a figure of speech because by the comments everyone on TH-cam sits blubbing over strangers. It’s having the opposite effect on me I don’t feel sorry for him I feel inspired and proud of him

Remarkable story about a remarkable man. To come from being so badly abused as a child, then abandoned to foster care to a step father who is a nasty asshole and then to such high success he achieved is incredible, truly incredible. Clearly he was born gifted, getting a scholarship to do a degree in Economics and Mathematics at UNSW and then finishing with honours takes serious talent. His further success as a financial trader only proves that. What most amazes me is that he's probably the most self made man on the rich list, and yet he's so humble about it. His inability have a loving relationship with the opposite sex is understandable, that childhood trauma is going to rear it's ugly head somewhere, it's always there. But he seems to have happy and balanced kids so he's done well. Good on him

Very moving. Their parents really hurt their children and that truly lasts a lifetime. But they have got on with their lives and all seem lovely and they have each other. Good to see how important being a father is to him, and his ex speaks so highly of him.

What a beautiful spirit Richard has. Against all the odds he emerged not only successful financially but emotionally and becomes a wonderful father against all the odds. Wish he had been on dragons den in 2014 when I was in for a few seconds!

How family life is supposed to be this richly warm, loving and nurturing environment when in fact for some it's the opposite can having a last affect on those left behind in the aftermath. This episode debunks the myth and hopefully allows "the some" to manage and live a life beyond the painful memories.

Damaged people have a way of minimising the grotesque and painful. Children taken, gone for years, and when one turns up, behave like he was never gone, no big deal.

good for Richard... I do believe making him into a saint because he ran a hedge fund ( which in those days ran very close to the criminal world and took money from known gun runners and drug barons,) he got lucky, Im sure he also had some substantial losses during those heady times. Two failed marriages as he said ...success is a matter of perspective. He had adoptive parents and loving and supporting sublings which is more than many abused children had and I hope he continues to thrive.

It’s rare to see a humble successful entrepreneur. It’s a very inspirational story. His sad & bad childhood became his motivation to succeed in life. Horrible biological parents. How can he be so differ from his parents in values & moral?! Lesson learned from this video. As long as you have the heart hunger to achieve/change, nothing should really stop you

@@jenislavant8469Actually Jeni I'll go one further, Richard is the ambassador for the UK Action For Children charity, and as well donating much money himself, and organising events to gain funds, his good self slept rough, as a homeless man, in London around 5 years ago to gain more money for this group.
I'm sure he's done much more since then, but you know, we only get the bad news in the newspapers.

I think his teacher saved him from a different kind of life and it goes to show that a terrible childhood is no excuse for bad behaviour. Had a similar childhood and out of 3 siblings 2 of us have had normal lives and 1 became a criminal scumbag. All about character I have come to believe.

    • @karendegenerous600

Just because all the children are from the same family, it doesn't mean to say they will take it the same way, nor be able to adjust later on in life. As you all seem to have been taught is nastiness and Evil, and he is more sensitive or revenge-seeking personality-wise IE, that's ingrained as a child, that's all he knows, and therefore why he will probably never change.

Jackyblue67 Same I’m not very very well off but even so if I can give something to my daughter (who doesn’t need it) I get a kick. It’s a great feeling to give, you should try it some time. She doesn’t ask or expect anything from me, she loves me unconditionally but the urge to give to your offspring is a natural one with benefits to both parties. Im surprised you don’t know this

Peter Eiso He is interesting. I only know him from Dragons Den and my concept of him from that was that he was some posh, rich boy born with a silver spoon in his mouth. To accidentally end up here on this vid and to find out that he is the exact opposite of my perception is quite fascinating. This guy can genuinely claim to be self made and he has not forgotten where he came from
