Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.
The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 35th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 11,000 performances.

That eye roll that she does at 2:47. Emmy Rossum was a fantastic Christine, she is too underrated.
I say he's the sexiest certifiable creeper I've ever lay my eyes on.
Me: "So, Gerard, What's next? "
Gerard Butler: "This is SPARTA!!!"
the face he makes when he realizes she likes it
I love the look on Raoul's face during this. He's like "What the heck is going on and why am I watching this?"
Emmy has such a beautiful voice, and Gerard just makes me melt!
I always get goosebumps when Gerard starts singing at the beginning...
Gerry plays the phantom brilliantly. His voice is amazing
In love with the passion and deepest feeling of this piece. In general, "The Phantom of the Opera" broughts me to my most deepest feelings and pleasure of listening this opera, my ultimate favourite one. I adore Gerad Butler, and he's the BEST Phantom to me. But the glory belongs to its creator, Mr. Andrew Lloyd Webber! All my due respect.
And thank you for giving us the inspiration of the "music of the night" beyond "the point of no return!"
she loved Eric terribly, even more than raoul, but after all the bad stuff he did, she could not. if he didnt take up the part of the bad guy, she would have gone with him.......
'In your mind you've already succumbed to me,'
Why yes, yes I have. In great detail. *deep breathe*
GREAT PERFOMANCE!
Funny how they sing this in a different key here than in the soundtrack.
you're telling me they still thought he was piangi? on broadway...the phantom is supposed to be covered and sing with an italian accent here
I love this song so much
Best foreplay EVER!!!
At 1:54, Raoul's thinking, "Why can't I be that good...?"
a great movie and Gerard Butler make a great phantom
So much sexy cape swishing... in gonna faint!
i never noticed... THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
love this movie
This is My favorite musical of all time
Christine: Cape woosh eh? How about some shoulder strap action..
the phantom will always be real to me he is my mentor
300 and Dacula 2000. A very strange range of films, but that just shows ths mans talent!
When Christine rips his mask and wig off, I always thought that was cruel of her. How very heartless of you, Kris!
(Yes, I have nicknamed Christine "Kris.")
That's what I thought too. I think the audio was raised an octave higher to avoid problems with copyright infringement. His voice still gives me the chills though!
He only kills the ones who seperate him from his beloved Christine.
i love the phantom of the opera!
I've been hooked on this movie for about 3 months now and right now i'm watching this scene after at least a month(>.< u dont kno how much I hate to admit that) and, wowo..you can almst see where Christine's Heart stopedd for a second. Erik built up an aray of nurturing feeling and bonded with her through the only means he thought possible.. and in the end, Jealousy took over, he was about to lose everything he ever dreamed of and cared for..
Yes, and he is singing it like a sir...
Gerard plays the phantom so effing sexy. The woman at 1:52 totally agrees.
It amazes me how different this is from the musical...
Nobody can escape his smoldering gaze...
Who else thinks Raouls facial expressions are hilarious in this? xD
Dammit, don't let him start singing, now no one can stop him!
the Phantom is cute and so is Raoul this is my favorite movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks he sings like an angel!
my favorite song
I really enjoy this movie but I didn't and did understand Ms.Daae's choice. Why did she go with Raoul instead of Erik? Raoul was only a childhood friend until he left but Ms.Daae had Erik most of her life. Her " Angel of music" was protecting her at the side lines. ...
1:53 Raoul thinking "Man, I can't compete with that !!"
I much prefer you in your Masque of Red Death costume.
THIS IS OPERA!!!
most beautiful song in the world...
gerard butler
Anyone ever wonder if there was anything between the phantom and madame Giry? She did rescue him as a boy, so its not like she'd be afraid of him. But presumably he would have got bored of her and went after someone younger and more talented.
I think they do, they're just baiting their time, waiting for the right moment to strike.
We all know that the reason they disliked was because they WANTED the phantom to come after them ;3
Yes it is him singing.
Oh you made my day soooooooo much!
capes are awsome
Love it
This is my FAV scene :D well one of them
i find myself replaying 1:10-1:16. better than any musical of this i've seen :)
I just saw the play today!
The one thing I don't like about this version is how attractive the phantom is. I understand how some people like it, but it is completely against the story. The phantom is supposed to be terrifyingly ugly, but with a remarkable voice.
Otherwise, I LOVE THIS. :D
wow would an angel touch a girl! like that i think not 1:36 - 1:51
It's so weird how much Gerard Butler has changed.
Thank you.
2:07 "Hold on, my sleeve is being annoying."
is it bad im 14 and listen to this non stop
LND is very, very sad. Wonderful (in it's way) but sad.
PS his hair changes because it's a wig, in case you didn't know :)
i watched the prince albert hall versian and then this and i said to my self " yup, that settles it gerard is much MUCH more sidducing!" (;
Wow!
They do but they can't just shot him on stage. They planned on him of being in the audince or something like that.
Yes it was.
I need to get my husband a cape and a mask! *HOT*
Moja omiljena/My favourite
Is that actually Gerard Butler singing though? Just curious.
I would love to go watch this play in person! But they don't have any shows in the U.S. and the ticket are SUPER expensive when you plan on buying 6 of them.
At 2:01-2:03 with that cape and the way he stands and offers his hand... mmmm. I have a screenshot xD
.... Who are you? Christine would never say that! Dark Christine?
I've only seen this 1x, I admit. But it reminds me of Twilight. The female character is almost not important. It doesn't matter if she has friends, or demonstrates any intelligence or demands explanations for how ppl treat her - or better treatment. What matters is that she's an object of innocence & desire, & who she ends up with. That's the point of the story, not her growth. That's the vibe I personally get. I'm sure this comment will upset some. That's not my goal, this are just my opinions.
Did anybody else secretly want to marry Gerard Butler after watching him sing this song?
Erik?
LOL RAOULS FACE. Team phantom foreva >:3
Maybe you've watched it to many time! (Ik I have but I can't help it!)
The phantom's name.
and Gaston was actually Belle's old childhood sweetheart
Whatever keeps you talking in that costume, phantom. :)
Christine is too. I would have enjoyed the ending being the phantom flying out of no where and pushing them off of a cliff... :3
It's Gerad Butler :)
Takodje ;)
O_O oh no...RUN!!!
gerard butler
If you stop at 00:29 you see that Christine is like "my worst nighgmare ever!"
Phantoms real name.
Oh so very good.... Mmmmm ;)
Do not run.........
Me and Erik drink tea and play chess from time to time.
Raoul is all hatin on Erik's and Christine's seductive to each other and all jeally that he wish girls would feel like that to him.
her sleeves have a life of their own...
haha her face at :22 "oh f--k"
She is dressed like a Flamenco dancer actually. Well, in that styling.
Gerald Butler's voice = Earsex.
Why can't a man seduce me like this....(ya know and not kidnap me in the end)
Love it
Still a better love story than Twilight.
The most passionate, the most romantic and the most erotic lyrics ever written. This is also my favorite song from PotO.
Is it wrong that I feel attracted to\this Eric/The Phantom? Even without the mask he looks handsome!
Gerard Butler's voice is pure lust, sex, and desire. If I was Christine, I would be like, "Yep, no second thoughts. I've decided. Let's go."
i still can't believe she was like 17 or 18 when she did this! she did such a beautiful job
