This is my favorite band, and I cannot overstate just how important they are to me being alive. Gene Simmons is also quoted as saying that if these guys spoke English as a native language, they would be the biggest band in the world. Its a massive ask, but I highly recommend checking out "Art of Life". Its such an intense emotional experience. The 30mins is worth every second
X-Japan has played a big part in shaping me as a musician. Obviously, the Last Live has a heavy emotional load considering the context, and even more in hindsight knowing hide's death in May of the following year. Really enjoyed your analysis on Kurenai, and I'd be curious to see what you have to say about other songs! A couple of personal favourites, if you are curious: - Endless Rain - The Last Live version (this one is easy to find) - Rose of Pain - acoustic version from 1994-12-31 (this one is a little bit more rare, but there it is: th-cam.com/video/Bl_zG_nJtG4/w-d-xo.html) EDIT: If you want to see the crowd forming Xs with their hands, have a look at pretty much any live rendition of X (the song). It's pretty much the anthem of the band.
I'd love to visit Japan. Good find with the metal themed bar ... I'm guessing you didn't find the Fox Bar (BABYMETAL themed). X Japan are the biggest ever Japanese metal band and pioneers of Visual Kei and influenced pretty much all Japanese metal bands since. This was their 'Last Live' show at the end of December 1997, I think the 18th time (at least) they'd sold out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 capacity). They were about to split up as the singer Toshi was leaving (his wife had got him into a cult). Tragically Hide (the guitarist with the pink hair) died within 3 or 4 months of this. The drummer (also pianist and main composer and founding member with Toshi) was Yoshiki. He damaged his neck headbanging and needed surgery and had to wear a neck brace for most of the time (I think he recently had another surgery on his neck). BABYMETAL pay homage to him with their use of a neck brace in a lot of their lore and some live shows - they pay homage to X Japan in several ways. BABYMETAL's song 'Akatsuki' is also an homage to 'Kurenai' and 'No Rain, No Rainbow' pays homage to X Japan's 'Endless Rain' (another must see from the Last Live).
Hey friend! As always, a very informative comment. Thanks for sharing the info! I'll have to check out the Fox Bar next time and I hope you can visit yourself soon! 😄🤘
Yep, X Japan are icons of the Japanese music scene, and quite rightly so with songs/performances like this.. And I'm all too willing to believe dear MaartenT that this is one of their most covered tracks as I've already seen quite a few of them just here on YT. One of the bands you featured in the video a few years ago also have a cover of this song on their channel, which I can only recommend if you're interested. Nemophila :) _____________________ _"America invented rock. England improved it. I have been watching a lot of streamed concerts out of Japan the last couple of years and I can not count the amount of times I have heard bands or just musicians together on stage cover this track. I am pretty sure this is the most covered track I have heard. Also some of those shows are a birthday stream for a musician with hired musicians and they tend to only play covers during those shows, so I have heard a lot of them. And yes, from what I understand the drummer Yoshiki used a neckbrace because he tended to hurt himself while headbanging during his drumming. If you want a couple of other older/bigger names, you can have a look at Seikima-II and Loudness and on the all female side Show-ya (not sure if your new friend in Japan mentioned any of those 3, he might have). I have also heard a bunch of Loudness covers over the years, although those might have been with one of the original members because they tend to help people out/are okay with being hired for those cover sessions. It's actually amazing sometimes how much camaraderie there seems to be in that scene in general. I love to see 50+ year old rockstars helping out 20-30 year old musicians with their show.

They will always hold a very special place in my heart ❤ rip to the legends that have left us
Also great breakdown / reaction .

I really REALLY wish more reactions to this band, specifically their earlier live stuff

Awesome, thanks so much for sharing this! 😄
Absolutely Legend!!!!!
Such a fantastic band. Their live concerts are on a completely elevated level. Complete harmony with the fans.

@@ThomFoolery1 You're welcome - and I hope I can visit Japan some day, I've only heard good things about it.
