Interesting: listening to the answer to a question I did not know even existed - but is completely logical. ❤ Anyway I have a question: would it not be possible to sew weights in the lower seams of the lighter fabrics to make the kilts less warm (in hotter climates/climate change) but still hanging and moving perfectly?
I've been curious about this myself. I've heard that 11oz was the standard weight for regimental kilts in hot weather climates. Living in AZ, it might be a more comfortable option in the summer.
+USAKiltsOfficial *Thanks for the manufacturer perspective.* 11Z British wool I'd only want in a Premier Eight-Yard; 13Z is light enough for a Five-Yard.
I have my Grand Dad's 1940 issue black watch kilt (I don't wear it out because I wasn't in the Regiment and I don't want to get punched by some eejit...I wear my Family tartan in 16oz) That thing weighs a ton....Damned near bullet proof If it got wet...I'd be on my knees

Central Texas here, I need the 11 oz
But what about us folks in the hot weather climate.
Good question. 8 yard, 11oz kilt in 100degree Texas? Just asking...
...PV for hot weather...and it's machine washable... just say'n...
Yep, already have a PV kilt but it’s not breathable as 11oz wool.
Maybe just paint on a kilt?
13oz 5 yard wool. I've worn it in south Louisiana. It's doable.

is there really that much difference between 11 and 12 oz?

11oz weights are best for sashes and women's kilted skirt
