There is, in the universe of TXT, a unique poetry and complexity. This universe tells in a multimedia way the story of five young people who, from an early age, discover a parallel reality (possibly digital) in which they can escape their responsibilities, Magic Island. In this reality, inspired by the language of the classic role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, each character brings their body a "pain", a physical representation of their greatest difficulty as an individual....
The Nap of A Star MV is what made me fall in love with TXT, I saw how different the group is from other Kpop groups, how unique TXT is, and I knew that this would be the group I would support until the end!! The mv for "Nap of a Star" tells the same story of Crown, (The Korean title for Crown is "One day, horns grew from my head"), but this time it is presented by the members themselves and some new things are added as well. The lyrics portray the story of one boy who one day woke up with a pain in his head and suddenly discovered that he was growing horns. That frightened and confused him what made him want to run away, thinking that he was bad and unfit to this world. He didn't understand who he was and didn't know how to stop that, so he calls for help. In the animation short film showed before their debut stage, we saw the same story. Of a boy who one day wakes up with horns growing in his head and seeing that others thought that he was strange and maybe a monster decides to flee. While he was sad and alone, another boy with wings find him and tells him that he thought that his horns were beautiful. That restored the horned boy's confidence and the two of them became good friends. Back to the lyrics, the horned boy finally feels happy when he meets his "savior" (the winged boy). Like, there's the line in Crown: "are your wings the same pain as mine?". And through loving them he learns to love the thing that makes him unique. So because of that person, he now views his horns, which before he saw like an evil and bad sign, as a crown on their head, so he starts loving them! The Nap of A Star video has that old, mute film vibe in every way, having a great influence from cinema pioneer Georges Méliès, director of A Trip to the Moon - 1902 (considered the first cinema narrative). With their first album "the dream chapter: star" we meet TXT as children who just realized they are growing up. They experience changes that bring them pain, not only physically, but also internally. These changes are introduced to us "fairytale-like" as wings, horns, spikes, odd eyes and pointy ears. These are their pains, their fears, their power. It all comes down to how them and society decide to view/use it as. They met each other when they were kids, played together and created this magical place with their imagination. There, they could do anything, they could be anything, they didn't need to grow up. That place is "Magic Island". Nap of a Star symbolized puberty in a way and the bittersweet journey of accepting change that leads to loving one's self. The video tells the story about the fears and the insecurity of a boy who has horns, which, believe it or not, are symbols of salvation and immortalities. He feels alone and misunderstood but at the end he finds his salvation, his friends. once all of them are together, their journey can officially start. Because just like the song itself says, they are destined to be and to stay together even if, at some point in their past, they were separated. Another important character is the star, the one who do the magic and the one their whole album, "the dream chapter: star", is dedicated to. When the boys are reunited, the star wakes up and the boys felt that something magical would then happen. And that's how the MV ends. As seen with Crown, it portrays the same message that we shouldn't hate what set us apart but rather embrace it, because that's what makes us unique. And how important it is to find friends who will accept us for who we are. The star can be interpreted as being MOA since they share the same dream as TXT. In fact, Nap of a Star lyrics can also be interpreted as a song TXT are singing to MOA (and/or to each other), like a promise they are making to be together in the future (the tomorrow) no matter what, all because they share the same dream. The same promise the boys made with the star at the beginning of the MV storyline. We can also say that Nap of a Star ties up with the meaning behind TXT group, which is five individuals who "come together under one dream in hopes of building a new tomorrow". TXT lore is about growth, they talk about the transition from adolescence to adulthood and all those changes that characterize it, the fear and refusal to grow up and the desire to stay young forever! They tackle the theme both explicitly, through music videos and lyrics set in out time and through symbolism using a fantasy plot with magical elements. Actually we could say that their storyline is a story within a story, the fairytale in which they find refuge from the real world in a magical one, Magical Island is the story of a board game or the videogame they are playing in the real world to escape reality! And they use references from literature such as Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Peter Pan, The Marvelous Land of Oz, Monday's Child, Coraline, The Little Prince, The Snow Queen, The Little Match Girl and Romeo and Juliet and among others. All of this is told through TXT's music videos, concept trailers, the animated short film. And they also have a webtoon "The star seekers". The story of the webtoon is tied with the lore of the mvs, but not completely the same, if it makes sense. There are definitely a lot of same elements, but while in the webtoon they are used to tell the fictional story about five fictional characters, in the MVs they're used to tell the story about five real boys growing up.
For Yeonjun, the knight of the game and the most active, in addition to his deer antlers (sung in "CROWN") is also a slit throat, a representation of the feeling of guilt he carries for having said something in the past. For Soobin, they are pointed ears, marking a passive position that the character has, which is reinforced by his alignment in the game as Archer and Ranger, those who attack only from afar. For Beomgyu, the weight of wanting to solve everything on his own generates a malformation in his back. For Taehyun it is excessive curiosity that places a star in his eye, and his character is constantly compared to that of a detective desperate to find the truth. And for Huening Kai it is the excess of innocence that becomes angel wings in this parallel universe. What makes them strange is also what makes them special. And most of all, it's what unites them - TXT Universe begins as a chosen family story, which resonates deeply with many young people considered "strangers" by society. Excerpt taken from the website "Valkyries" when I watched and went to research about it I found this article interesting.
The MV of Nap of a Star tells the story that’s in the lyrics of CROWN!: “That is not me who's staring blankly in the mirror / Dizzy headaches and there's something on my head / I wanna run away and disappear far away” | “My body must have gone crazy / There's a horn growing out of my head / What do I do? I don't know how to stop it / Oh, I'm the only evil thing in this world / Save me, maybe I have turned into a monster” | “Who you, you? / Are you my savior who found me alone? / Who you, you? / Are your wings created from the same pain as mine?”
I suggest you to watch their concept trailers for every album because it will give you a story about the concept of that particular album so you will not get lost about the whole concept (lore) and all their albums are connected from the debut albums up to the recent one.
I'm spending this afternoon catching up to you're TXT deep dive. This is definitely not a uniform "K-Pop" MV. Feels kind of one of the animated shorts that get nominated for awards. So interesting.
Actually, in a way, I don't think they did deal with their changes differently. They all ran away to the forest and lived on their own because they were scared they were different. Only when YJ was in crisis did they reunite.
I understood that for TXT it's best to go with your emotional response to their +U or TU verse videos as fully understanding them was just not possible since the whole story is not out yet .... But they emotionally resonate as they need to ....
And now he knows why they are referred to as the story telling idols
