I've the Markus chair and I gotta say, it's a great chair! In the past I had a plastic swivel chair which was hell, so it's a big improvement! Love your videos as always
Is your markus the older style 1 like oliurs markus in this video or the new style which is fabric cushion? Seen people say the new version isn't as good
There’s a mid-range HermanMiller chair really worth mentioning which is the Sayl. Got them in the office and their comfort is top notch. This auto tilt adjustment system is a game changer.
Nice chair for everyone under 5'10. I'm 6'1 and it's borderline unusable for more than 30 minutes because the back is so short and the top digs into my shoulder blades.
I just got the cosm low back after trying a bunch at the dwr store. I felt it was more comfortable than the aeron, and the auto adjustability felt more modern than the static adjustability of the aeron. If the cosm fits your stature I highly recommend it!
If it's any help, here's why I traded in my Cosm for an Aeron Gaming: I loved Cosm's design: sleek, no adjustments, high-back. When I received it, I loved the aesthetics and the extreme lightness of the Cosm. However, after a week of use, I realized that my back and butt hurt daily, and I reluctantly decided to return them and get my money back. I then ordered the Aeron. I took it in its Gaming version simply for its superb matte black color (there is nothing else), and there, it was a revelation: absolute comfort, no more pain, and a real daily pleasure to sit in it. And in the end, I learned to love its design; I find it just as elegant. I have no regrets about my choice. I know I dug the web (Reddit, etc.) before I bought my chair for this kind of feedback, so it would be my pleasure if I could help anyone as well!
@@ants246 I did. It's tough to maintain a bad posture on the Aeron, and the chair's design makes our bad habits unpleasant. For example, I used to sit on my leg, and it's impossible to maintain that position on the Aeron (good for me).
Funny enough I had the complete opposite experience. I owned an Aeron for 3 years (both B & C size) and it caused me back pain. No matter how much I adjusted it. I ended up getting a Cosm last year and to my surprise my back pain went away. The Cosm has somehow improved my posture too. They're both awesome chairs that's for sure.
@@imnotjacob. I'm not surprised! My friend got his Cosm at the same time I did, he kept his, and he's delighted with it. I‘m convinced that the Cosm is an excellent product; I wish it had fit me as that was my initial choice. Anyway, I'm happy for you that you no longer have back pain.
I have a slipped disc on my hip and my current generic chair has been causing a very unpleasant feeling on my left buttock area after a couple hours of gaming. I got an Aeron coming in next week and I hope it solves my problems, I really want the Aeron to be my long term chair that’ll last me decades
agree with oliur. i have the ikea markus - it's quite alright, esp the leaning back function. my uni has the HM sayl - it's very comfy. you can sit in it all day without any issues. tried out a HM aeron - it just feels so natural how it fits to your body and weight. you get support where it's needed. the holy grail of chairs!
This video's timing is almost spot on as I just bought an office chair last week. I looked at the entire IKea range and wasn't impressed, none were comfortable for the money asked the build quality didn't seem up to task. Ikea isn't as cheap as what people believe. I also looked at many generic chairs made in china up to 200€ but they were all crap as were the gaming chairs which quite rightly mentioned. In the end I went for a chair made by the Spanish firm Actiu, it's super quality very comfortable adjustable in many ways and for less than 300€. They have a range of different models from just over 200€ to over 1000€, highly recommended in my book!
Had the Ikea Markus for 3 years. I liked it, it is very good for relaxing. The head rest cover material reacted to head oil and started to peel off (a lot) and that ruined the looks. After 2 years the seat was too hard for my bum. Arms not being adjustable were a major problem while using it for long gaming sessions, causing severe posture problems. Changed to a 200€ staples office chair "Dream" model - the very hard cheap seat is bad but the mesh back and the fully adjustable arms compensate for that. To solve the hard seat problem I use a cheap, thin blue honeycomb silicone "gel" seat cushion. Still looking for a better option and I am considering spending up to 300€ or 400€ when I find something that is better than what I have - I need to be able to see it and test it before buying, so online shopping is not an option. I liked the Herman Milled Cosm as shown here, but it costs 1500€ in Portugal, and that is simply too much for a chair (for me).
I bought this one this week, and it’s very comfortable as it just adjust so naturally to me in such a fluid way, but I just can’t lean back in it to relax as it keeps pushing me forward. Any trick of how to keep it in the “lean back” position without pushing hard with your legs?
Love the video - especially the little ASMR segment at the start. I’m looking to purchase a new chair in the next few months. Thanks for the recommendations!
Chair! Thanks for this comparison! I bought the Aeron a couple of years ago, and it’s absolutely one of the best chairs I’ve had. I had the Markus prior to this actually.
I use a Aeron at work, and I love how well the mesh works for me. It might not be for everyone, but I think the adjustability and mesh just makes an amazing combo.
CHAIR! :D The Aeron Gaming model is so worth it - waited several months before it was back in stock but havent looked back after previously used a normal "gaming" chair.
TRY before you buy Herman Miller Aeron - I read some reviews complaining about feet going numb, And thought ahh, that's BS. But after 30 days trying it I can definitely say this is an issue. I got fitted for the chair at the showroom in London so I know i got the right size. However the domed seat design caused excessive pressure under the top of thighs. Even after short periods of sitting. So be sure to go try out this chair and sit in it for an extended period of time. Build qualify is amazing. Adjustability amazing. Lower back support. But the pressure under the thighs is not comfy at all and definitely not what you'd expect from a 1k chair. Mines getting returned and I'll be seeking out a flat seated chair.
I was looking for office chairs on google and thought ‘let me hop on TH-cam and see some comparisons’. Boom this video pops up on my recommended. Good looks Oliur
Not that I game, but excellent point about not wasting money on those gaming chairs. I haven't tried the Cosm yet, but the Aeron CHAIR is magnificent. Expensive as hell, but I understand why. Great video, by the way!
Going to a Herman Miller partner store today and trying out all different models there while having a nice sip of coffee ☺️☕️ Considering the Aeron Remastered in black or that all new white color scheme. Thanks for your video 👍🏻
CHAIR! The Cosm takes a bit to get use to I found as there is no adjustment apart from height. I wanted to send it back initially, but I really love it now. I don't think I can ever go back to a chair that isn't high back, or any other chair for that matter that isn't designed in the same way. HM chairs are an investment but when you consider that there is a 12-year warranty, and I've owned one of their chairs that was older then 12-years and it still looked in good condition, they become well worth that initial price.
After some 30 years working from offices, the last 3 (spanning covid and to now Nov 22) I’ve been using a non-ergo office chair (fancy looking thing from Italy) at home and now have such a bad back I’m having treatment at the NHS muscular skeletal centre. So a lesson indeed. I went to John Lewis and found (for me) the Cosm was the most comfortable. I tried a couple of Aerons, the remastered and standard (both size B which is the correct size) played around with the settings and sat in each for around 10mins. So I think as you say, what’s important here is an ergo chair which is best for you, most likely the Aeron will be the best all round fit, I just found the Cosm fitted me very well. First week with it and back has improved a little.
I'm looking at the cosm or the embody from Herman miller. Do you mind sharing how tall you are so I can judge if the cosm will fit me well. I'm 5"7 130lbs. And did you go for the leaf arms or not with the cosm? 🙂
@@HoneyTwee sure, I’m 5’11 and I went for the adjustable arms, mainly because this is for working at a desk, the leaf arms get a lot of bad press because the mesh isn’t comfortable on the elbows for prolonged time. The trigger button for the arm adjustment is at the front of each arm, just under the padding, so really easy to adjust. If at all possible I’d suggest going to your nearest store, take your coat off and setup each chair to your needs, then spend 10mins in each. What is comfortable for one person isn’t a guarantee for someone else, which you appreciate by asking me my height. The internet suggests the Aeron is the better of the two, yes it’s extremely adjustable and has almost a cult following, but for me it absolutely wasn’t the most comfortable for my lower back. Still really pleased with my Cosm, convinced it’s 90%+ responsible for solving my back issue, and it was pretty bad. Oh and I went for the high back version. My partner is 5’5 and she did also find the Cosm comfortable. Good luck 🤞
@@supercrazysane Thanks for the info :) I am very sold by the aesthetics of the cosm alone to be honest. Sadly I live in the UK and the only places I could try these chairs in person are 3 and a half hour drives away. So I am kind of banking on the return policy if it doesn't work out, but the cosm is so beautiful I am hoping it does. Like I said the aesthetics are playing a huge role in my purchase and nothing even comes close to the cosm for me with the leaf arms in that department. I was kind of hoping you had the leaf arms and could give me your opinion on them haha, but you champion the common sentiment with advising against it. I almost never wear short sleeves though so honestly in the rare case that I do I will just acknowledge that using the arms rests heavily for 3+ hours might be uncomfortable it sucks I have to consider that downside but honestly the leaf arms look so alien and cool the bad press around them hasn't put me off. Maybe it should lol. I'm just wondering, your wife finds it comfortable but does the recline function work properly with her? :) thanks.
@@HoneyTwee I think the leaf arms will be fine for a few hours, I’m often sat for 8 hours and lean on the arm rests quite heavily. My wife doesn’t have any problem with the recline, couple of things to note 1) the tension may feel harder when you first get the chair (I was aware this might be the case) and this should ease a little after two weeks. 2) the higher the chair, the easier to recline. My wife uses an ergofoam foot rest (Amazon) and loves that combination. Oh and John Lewis sell them, just in case that’s closer than the HM store.
I know u won't probably read this but I want to thank you for making me buy the best PC case I ever had! I love the Iqunix ZX-1 so much! And your room inspired me to update my stuff!
Chair. I've just bought Markus. In last month I bought MacBook Air, iPhone 13 Pro, pulse red xbox controller, Markus office chair, leather desk cover and master mx 3 so I have brand new desk setup. Now looking for some new budget monitor cause I won't use it very often
chair, here in Costa Rica HM is very, very expensive, I have a gaming chair, because it was affordable, decent quality and the delivery was fast as well, I was working on a chair that was giving me back pain, I did research on the chairs available here and this one matchet my needs, I know there might be some office chairs in the market with some affordable prices but this is what I was able to buy in that moment, thank you for the information and what you should look for when you look for an office chair, also, good ergonomics suggestions to take care of each one.
Chair. Came for info on the Markus, but the Cosm does look amazing.

Chair. Btw I've been thinking of buying a new chair to replace my Charles & Ray Eames 119, which I believe is made by Herman Miller, and that Herman Miller Cosm looks amazing. IKEA's Markus is great value btw. 150€ here, much better than those awful and unconfortable gaming chairs everyone buys.
I got the high back Cosm this week, and I love how it molds to the body naturally and moves so super-smoothly both back and forth and to the sides. Almost like a natural spine extension. One thing I find hard though is that it’s extremely hard to stay in the “lean back” position, as it pushes you forward very strongly unless you push back with your legs the whole time, so you can’t really relax. Any trick to make it easier to stay leaned back?
@@StardustLegacyFighter I’ve solved how to do it, you basically have to sit down on it far back in the seat with all your weight while leaning back. Then it stays back. If you move it forward after that, you need to repeat that “rise and sit back” movement, as just leaning back won’t work to stay leaned back, as it will push you straight up again unless you tense yourself legs. The chair is truly awesome once you learn this. So comfortable.
I got the Marcus fabric chair recently. The lumbar support is perfect but my under thighs are in pain and my feets soul start tingling like i have no blood flow
i think resting your arms on the armrests while actively using keyboard/mouse is up for debate. i've heard arguments both ways on whether this is actually the right way. On one hand, you will rely much more on your wrists if you do choose to rest and on the other, your shoulders will be much more active which can lead to RSI. It may be safe to say to alternate between the two.
Chair Definitely would recommend the Herman Miller Aeron, its something Oliur personally recommended to me a while ago and I haven't looked back! One thing I will say, it takes a little while to get used it if you have never used an ergo chair or coming from gaming chairs (which I agree are horrible, literally bought one and it sat in storage straight away). There is also a great approved headrest from Atlas which I would recommend for it if you like some neck/head support.
Chair. I have the Ikea one. It's still going like 15 years later. Great chair. The super ergonomic styles sometimes aren't the best for everyone. I like to sit with one foot up a lot. The plastic curvative at the side of ergonomic chairs make doing that really uncomfortable.
Well, I mean ergonomic chairs aren't supposed to be comfortable to sit in poorly. You need to learn how to sit properly or otherwise you're gonna mess your own health tbh.
I'm getting the top spec Embody Office chair soon. I hope what you say is true cause they let me try it out in a Herman Miller London showroom for only 30 minutes.
@@RedPMD 30 minutes is not enough, it takes upto 2 weeks to break into the chair to get used to it, its like a shoe they are not immediately comfortable on first time of wear
My problem is finding a chair where the arm rests align evenly with my standing desk. I’ve had to remove the arm rests all together because of that but now I need an upgrade.
@@nelb.4976 It's very good tbh, I work 8/9 hours a day on it and I cannot complain. For the price I think it's very worthy, and looks more expensive than it is. I've only changed the wheels for silicone ones (got them from amazon) to avoid scratching my laminate floor.
I highly recommend Human Scale given their price point. I've used both the Aeron Herman Miller and Human Scale and was really impressed with their chair. John Lewis is a great place to test both out before purchasing.
I tried a bunch of Hermin Miller chairs (some of these) and from a few other manufacturers but I fell in love with Knoll’s Generation chair. Would recommend finding a store or friends and trying different chairs out for yourself if possible.
For taller or bigger people the aeron needs to be a size C and you’d have to purchase them retail, otherwise occasionally steelcase does sales on the gesture and that’s been my go to at least so I can cross my legs or manspread. Plus the armrests are the best bar none
CHAIR - Hi Oliur, I enjoyed the video. I've been using a Herman Miller Aeron for almost 25 years. I was instantly in love with the chair after an office remodel. This has been my best purchase to date. Have a great day.
Chair. I bought a used Herman Miller Embody before the Cosm was released (I think) and now I definitely want to try the high-back Cosm. I'm a tall guy so my broad shoulders are a bit too much for the narrow back of the Embody.
Hi Oliur, i was just about to buy this chair: "Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 serie" Do you also dislike this one? it seemed really great because of the adjustable support, the headrest (magnets), and it looks beautifull in my opinion..
Most people really like the Secret Lab gaming chair. It's still a gaming chair at the end of the day, but if you're dead set on a gaming chair it's probably one of the best/most ergonomic ones you could get. But an office chair that's 100% focused on ergonomics will likely be better in terms of pure ergonomics, but 90% of them are ugly/boring as hell. So it kinda comes down to what is priority for you. Also, SecretLab does have an office chair called the SecretLab Neue, looks very very similar to the Herman Miller Aeron.
Chair! Thanks for the recommendations. Definitely worth to know what the high end options out there are. I like your videos and your style a lot! Keep it up!
Hi great video, but I would like to know why the MARKUS is supposed to be better than the JÄRVFJÄLLET. I am into those two chairs. Thank you very much!
@@darkyzz Hi Darkyz. As far as I can say, I sat in all IKEA chairs, whenever I visited an IKEA Store I can say that the most comfort ones where the JÄRFVJÄLLET, Hattefjäl and the MARKUS. The Hattefjäl is a category on its own. The Markus was pretty decent tbh. I think there is nothing wrong spending 150€ on it. But the Järfvjället felt like an upgraded or premium Markus-Version for me.
Ergonomic chairs are really subjective. Some may work better for others. I personally didn't like the Aeron chair and found a 200 dollar no name brand more comfortable for me. If you're spending 1000 dollars on a chair they really should come with an adjustable lumbar support system as well as a headrest. Also cosm chair isn't 1000 it's 1800

I know lots of people praise the Markus, I did not find it comfy, especially the rock-hard armrests. Chairs are something you really have to try in person to find what fits you.
I work standing. I sit on the sofa to rest in between. Is there a seat that can reach the height where I can sit without lowering the table? Which one would you recommend?

@@HoneyTwee I think the leaf arms will be fine for a few hours, I’m often sat for 8 hours and lean on the arm rests quite heavily. My wife doesn’t have any problem with the recline, couple of things to note 1) the tension may feel harder when you first get the chair (I was aware this might be the case) and this should ease a little after two weeks. 2) the higher the chair, the easier to recline. My wife uses an ergofoam foot rest (Amazon) and loves that combination. Oh and John Lewis sell them, just in case that’s closer than the HM store.
watching this in my herman miller cosm chair. still can´t decide to switch to aeron maybe as it gives more adjustability long term
Chair - Thank you. Very useful. WE are taking your advice.
chair, here in Costa Rica HM is very, very expensive, I have a gaming chair, because it was affordable, decent quality and the delivery was fast as well, I was working on a chair that was giving me back pain, I did research on the chairs available here and this one matchet my needs, I know there might be some office chairs in the market with some affordable prices but this is what I was able to buy in that moment, thank you for the information and what you should look for when you look for an office chair, also, good ergonomics suggestions to take care of each one.
Chair. I definitely hope to save up for a Herman Miller office chair sometime.
Apply more force with your back?
@@StardustLegacyFighter I’ve solved how to do it, you basically have to sit down on it far back in the seat with all your weight while leaning back. Then it stays back. If you move it forward after that, you need to repeat that “rise and sit back” movement, as just leaning back won’t work to stay leaned back, as it will push you straight up again unless you tense yourself legs. The chair is truly awesome once you learn this. So comfortable.
@@pressrepeat2000 Glad to hear that!
I've not sat on the Cosm before, but I would love to try it out just for the experience.
The Aeron chair is consistently amazing.
I bought the Aeron model last year as used for 390 USD and I am very satisfied.
I got the Marcus fabric chair recently. The lumbar support is perfect but my under thighs are in pain and my feets soul start tingling like i have no blood flow
Chair. Great video, Oliur! I’m considering getting the IKEA chair and saving up for a Herman Miller chair
i think resting your arms on the armrests while actively using keyboard/mouse is up for debate. i've heard arguments both ways on whether this is actually the right way. On one hand, you will rely much more on your wrists if you do choose to rest and on the other, your shoulders will be much more active which can lead to RSI. It may be safe to say to alternate between the two.
Chair
Definitely would recommend the Herman Miller Aeron, its something Oliur personally recommended to me a while ago and I haven't looked back!
I asked an expert about this, as I do it too, but sitting with your foot up is not good for your back at all and for blood circulation.
Well, I mean ergonomic chairs aren't supposed to be comfortable to sit in poorly. You need to learn how to sit properly or otherwise you're gonna mess your own health tbh.
recently bought the Herman Miller Embody, personally think it tips the Aeron, can sit for hours without any back pain
Have a look into roller blade style caster wheels for office chairs. They glide so much smoother than the standard casters.
A used herman miller is the way to go. They are available in most cities and are less than half the retail price at $300-400.
Just got the fully loaded ultra matte Aeron and I love it 🤩
I've been using an autonomous chair for about 2 years. Great lower back support and very adjustable.
My problem is finding a chair where the arm rests align evenly with my standing desk. I’ve had to remove the arm rests all together because of that but now I need an upgrade.
Great 'Chair' review video. Would like the high back variation myself but damn they're all out of my price range.
Loved the first few seconds ASMR🌸
I ordered the IKEA Markus a few month ago and will be delivered around 15/02... crazy waiting times, looks like it's a very requested product. 👌
how's the chair's comfortability?
@@nelb.4976 It's very good tbh, I work 8/9 hours a day on it and I cannot complain. For the price I think it's very worthy, and looks more expensive than it is. I've only changed the wheels for silicone ones (got them from amazon) to avoid scratching my laminate floor.
Bought a used Aeron recently, such a nice chair!
I highly recommend Human Scale given their price point. I've used both the Aeron Herman Miller and Human Scale and was really impressed with their chair. John Lewis is a great place to test both out before purchasing.
Humanscale are decent, but their chairs are more cheaply built than the top brands and also their return policy is criminal.
Herman Millers are kinda expensive for me, i will get one in the future 100%
its a must
thanks for the vid and nice common project shoes!
I tried a bunch of Hermin Miller chairs (some of these) and from a few other manufacturers but I fell in love with Knoll’s Generation chair. Would recommend finding a store or friends and trying different chairs out for yourself if possible.
Herman Miller and Knoll are the same company.
@@StardustLegacyFighter oh, well good for them.
For taller or bigger people the aeron needs to be a size C and you’d have to purchase them retail, otherwise occasionally steelcase does sales on the gesture and that’s been my go to at least so I can cross my legs or manspread. Plus the armrests are the best bar none
Seriously, literally looking for an office chair now for a second office setup
CHAIR - Hi Oliur, I enjoyed the video. I've been using a Herman Miller Aeron for almost 25 years. I was instantly in love with the chair after an office remodel. This has been my best purchase to date. Have a great day.
Here am I looking to pull the trigger on the Vitra Physix chair in white. Did you have any experience with this one?
Chair.
Chair. I bought a used Herman Miller Embody before the Cosm was released (I think) and now I definitely want to try the high-back Cosm. I'm a tall guy so my broad shoulders are a bit too much for the narrow back of the Embody.
Hi Oliur, i was just about to buy this chair:
"Secretlab TITAN Evo 2022 serie"
Do you also dislike this one? it seemed really great because of the adjustable support, the headrest (magnets), and it looks beautifull in my opinion..
+1
Most people really like the Secret Lab gaming chair. It's still a gaming chair at the end of the day, but if you're dead set on a gaming chair it's probably one of the best/most ergonomic ones you could get. But an office chair that's 100% focused on ergonomics will likely be better in terms of pure ergonomics, but 90% of them are ugly/boring as hell. So it kinda comes down to what is priority for you.
Also, SecretLab does have an office chair called the SecretLab Neue, looks very very similar to the Herman Miller Aeron.
Chair! Great video as usual :)
chair! i can't wait to get one of these
Can you do an updated one for 2024?
Aeron is the King of chairs period.
Chair! Thanks for the recommendations. Definitely worth to know what the high end options out there are. I like your videos and your style a lot! Keep it up!
Chair - thanks for this very detailed Vid.
Amazing review and great points and knowledge
Hi great video, but I would like to know why the MARKUS is supposed to be better than the JÄRVFJÄLLET. I am into those two chairs. Thank you very much!
same!
@@l.s.11 Okey thank you. I will go to an ikea and try it personally because I have read a lot of opinions and I don't have anything clear
You gotta try out the engineering now headrests for the Aeron chair!
Chair! Now where's my prize! Lol great video and good advice as always. Nice work boss man
I liked the ASMR intro 👌🏿
Chair! Thanks a lot man.
Great video, thank you.
chair ;) ironically I've been contemplating my chair selection and researching something new. I've found the Aeron at half price for a refurbished model. Haven't received it yet, but I hope it will meet expectations.
Chair (cheers) mate, great video as always. Thank you!
Got the exact model of gaming chair you showed as example in my living room ngl. I‘m currently looking for a new one for my homeoffice and was considering buying another gaming chair made by the same Brand. Your video made me consider changing to a propper office chair, though. Seems to be much more ergonomic and I like the design a lot. Great video as always. CHAIR
How tall are you and what’s the distance from the floor to the top of your head when you sit cross legged on the floor?
Fantastic CHAIRS!
I know lots of people praise the Markus, I did not find it comfy, especially the rock-hard armrests. Chairs are something you really have to try in person to find what fits you.
They should make Markus with adjustable armrests... That is a must.
Buy the Järfvjället. It’s literally the same like Markus, only better. And with adjustable armrests
Even if this has not a lot to do with the topic of the video, that pair of black leather sneakers is sick, where can I find them?
I thought I was the only one that thinks those gaming chairs are horrendous. Nice video Ollur!
i dont care what the video is about, as far as the video is from oliur... i must watch it!!
One game changer for any office chair is switching the wheels to rollerblade style wheels.
How are the arm rests on the cosm? Are they hard? Do they turn inwards/outwards?
I work standing.
I sit on the sofa to rest in between.
Is there a seat that can reach the height where I can sit without lowering the table?
Which one would you recommend?
Chair .... i have the Markus and i'm loving it! What about the HERMAN MILLER X LOGITECH G EMBODY GAMING CHAIR?!
What's your thought about the Herman Miller Sayl ?
Chair. Great video!
im planning to buy the ikea markus. but it cost me 270$ in my country. im waiting for buy when they decrease the price
