Lovely car. I am not sure how things stand in New Zealand and Australia, but in the UK, the Rootes cars seem to have been forgotten. Everyone values Fords, Triumphs and many of the BMC cars like minis and Morris Minors, but it sometimes feels like Hillman, Singer, Sunbeam and Humber never existed, and yet they were such iconic high quality cars. It always fills me with joy to see one of Coventry's finest.
Hillman have always been popular cars in New Zealand and there is still a following for them through clubs. I think there are only about 70 or so registered Hillman Superminx's in NZ, but there will be plenty hidden away I would say. Hillman avengers were very popular cars. The car always gets a lot of attention from people when I take it out. Thank you for the comment and for watching.
Lovely car, I was hoping you could help. I want to change the oil on my a Super Minx but not sure which bolt was the filler location. I have the workshop manual but it's surprisingly no help unless I wanted to rebuild it. I was hoping you,d have a video. Thanks in advance if you can assist.
Hi thanks for the comment. Do you mean the engine oil or gear box oil? I am doing a video shortly on changing the engine oil and replacing the oil sump gasket. If you mean the gear box oil there is an access panel on the tunnel infront of the gear stick on the right hand side. Remove it and the filler plug can be accessed.
Yeah the drain plug is on the bottom. I will do a video at some stage on replacing the gearbox oil as well. It has a small oil leak from where the speedo cable housing connects to the gearbox. Need to replace the gasket. You should check your diff oil and probably replace it if you can just for insurance, if you haven't done that yet.
@@everything-hillman66 Yeah well I have one a wagon mine was sold new in Hastings and has been there all its life except for two years I had it in Auckland, have you seen the grey wagon with two girls in it, lives in Haumoana I know that car Ive been selling its last two owners parts

Thank you oh so much, I did mean the gearbox, can't believe I wasn't clear about that. I assume the massive nut on the bottom is the drain plug.

My father had 3 of those all new and even picked one up from Todd motors factory in Wellington!
Thanks for sharing that story. He must have really appreciated the Hillman brand. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
I passed my driving test in an identical model back in 1968... my father bought it new in 1966.
Good old Todd motors
Definitely
