      If they did, you could easily make an Epiphone look like a Gibson by applying a fake decal on the headstock.

      soulagent79 Then why that doesn´t happen with Fender and Squier?

    • @soulagent79
      @soulagent79 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It happens a lot with Fender and Squier. The thing is, there is no original Squier headstock design and there were no Squier guitars at all until 1982, when Fender decided to use the Squier brand name for their (then new) Japanese made guitars. Epiphone on the other hand had already used the headstock design we know these days, decades before the company was bought by Gibson in 1957.

      I can tell ya, the neck itself (7/8 size) is actually pretty fair. one I'd picked up couple years ago (LP style) needed about 1/3 turn to the truss, and about same to the bridge posts. slapped in a flat face epoxy sealed $7 "Gibson/Epiphone" pup from Amazon and called it done (very good output for a cheepo pup).

I learned my first licks and chords on that guitar and it opened up a a whole new world and gave me something to be passionate about. But for $79, it's amazing they can include all of that for price. And that amp sounds like $5 of quality ;). Actually it sounds a bit like Brian Mays Deacy amp when it's cranked. Guillermo Perez it was fun but only for a little bit. Once you start playing because it’s so cheap it makes it difficult to play guitar simply cause it’s such a low quality instrument. Either get it set up properly by a technician or spend a bit more money. It will greatly improve your playing. As it did mine.

    I bought one of these a number of years ago, but it was a flying V model. The single humbucker pickup wasn't all that bad and it actually played OK right out of the box. It didn't have any amp with it like yours. The frets ends were pretty sharp though. I really like it that little crap ass guitar though, it's a great little backpacker/portable guitar. All I did to it was to sand down the sharp fret ends and a basic set up. It has a very tinny sound and I usually tune it to up to A (for the bottom E string). It sounds like a cross between a banjo and a ukulele, which is fine for me as a super small practice guitar. ... And it comes in handy if you want that ukulele/banjoey sound on a specific track .....

      I think it is because Epiphone with open book headstock will take over part of the market from Gibson because Epiphones are so good these days.
      A lot of people turn to Gibson because they don't like the Epiphone headstock. So if Epiphone had the open book headstock, those people will very likely buy an Epiphone instead (because much better bang for the buck).

    I would buy: beam for use in leveling (aluminium square section or builders level), abrasive paper, masking tape, fretwire, wire wool, crowning file, 42awg magnet wire. Refret. Rewind pickups using guesswork and mum's sewing machine. Then peraps wilkinson or similar hardware if budget allowed. Probably their brass rollr bridge and fit a separate stopbar. Also decent strings. Ernie Ball, d'Addario or Rotosound.
    If owning tools in in the rules then I can't see the fret wire and magnet wire being more than $US 30, as i think I pay about £UK 8 for reasonable fretwire and £12 for a half pound of magnet wire.

    I'm a modder at heart and these are perfect for modding because they're so cheap and the electronics on the pick guard make it quite easy to work on and replace stuff.

    I got one Christmas season at my local pawn shop for $50. It was a "project". 🙄. I had to file the frets from nut area to the 14th fret with a STD file. Smooth/decent after the work. At least it didn't cut up my palm. I bought from eBay a PAF replica Humbucker. Chrome. This dude didn't like the tuners, but I had little issues with mine. I tightened up any and all screws connected to it which oddly enough did help. The input jack, potiometers (volume and tone) were subpar. As was the wraparound bridge too. I got the Humbucker changed out and was on my way to getting around to the other tasks when life hit me. Had to buy gas and food, so I "pawned" mine for $100. Lost interest in reclaiming it. So with a little bit of work, got $50 out of it. If one wants to see that way. These Maestro SG models are all around: pawn shop, online, etc. Mine was black too. Cheap, fun project to get into. Parts: I did get the aforementioned parts. I could buy another used Maestro SG, get a copy PAF, what I have, voila. Just wanted to kill the boredom. I'd play this one when my part time cover band does AC/DC. Get my Angus on!! Anyhow, recommend project for fun and thanks for reading!! 🎸🎶

      it would be a quick throw into the fireplace its been cold as reverse hell in Ontario lately.
      just picked up a stagg les paul copy for $40 and its KILLER for the money spent,it would
      knock this turd into the dirt very quickly.

    I have this and a old amp that has volume, tone, and tremolo. It really good for a beginner like me, but I can’t like just press and get sound like a lot of people do, which can discourage me sometimes, but whatever. It was my brothers at first, and I don’t know where the amp it came with is, so my grandads old amp it is.

      Which new tailpiece/bridge did you order? I recently bought a Wilkinson wraparound bridge for my new 99$ Epiphone SL, but I could hardly intonate it correctly and it just looked ugly on the guitar, so I'm still looking for something better.

    Could you please tell me how much that guitar weighs? As a small person I always have the problem that proper guitars are pretty heavy, which makes it hard to me playing it while standing over 20 minutes.. I've heard that SG's are more flat an therefore don't weigh that much.

I was considering make it headless with 81-85 at 18v but it's got decent sounding pickups.. Idk where to start. I'm just gonna learn to play better I think impossible to find specs on my guitar

    Nick, another question for you as you have never steered me wrong. I have a 2016 Gibson LP Studio Worn. I payed $699 new. I also have a Michael Kelly 1965 Strat style that is awesome.
    Can you compare the best MK Patriot to a LP Studio as I am considering selling my LP Studio and buying a Patriot. If you say you would pull the trigger on a patriot which model?
    Thank you kind sir

    • @NickintheStates
      @NickintheStates 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David! I’d say the studio probably packs a bit more punch with the pickups. The MK Patriots with the rockfields are good, the ones with Duncan’s are better, but now you’re up to about what you paid for the studio.

      I'm not sure about modding it... but we're definitely going to STACK TWO OF THEM!!!! METTTAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!
      Actually, we may even route the headphone out back into larger amps for shits and giggles. Reamp the output of this beast into a Plexi.

      +Nick in the States , amp is a real tinkertoy, swapping out the speaker DID help quite a bit. what I'd dropped in rated 10w max, wider freq, more magnet, and used a calculator to pop a port tube into it. it is what it is, but it was a
      lot louder and ballsier. stock is a junk 8 ohm 3W paper surround, the 10W max an old cloth surround rated 6 ohm I just happened to have kicking around. when they say 10W max they're talking about a sealed box, add a port you can typically cut that rating right in half for unrestricted cone travel.
