It's even more obvious in the castles version, where opponents not only gang up on you but place their castles in locations that don't help them out but instead keep you from succeeding, as if they're kamikazeeing immediately at the start of the game.

@@yousoldthebag am I missing smth? Turtling in Australia is one of the best rookie stats in risk. Because if u just keep building on siam no one can get into Australia and u save troops and you can attack in the endgame. But it can be countered In The earlygame when siam isn't defended
This is how 99% of Risk games go for 3 player games. 2 people get some toxic rivalry over nothing and fight for 2nd place giving the 3rd guy the easy win.
Also, the aussie strategy is a powerhouse move. I can't remember which editions but some editions allow travel between Argentina and western Australia and east Africa to Brazil. I still take those 2 continents and watch others fight for the big ones and by time 1 or 2 of them finally got a bonus, I got cards and have been stacking bonuses and yup, keep my troops right there in Indonesia lmao.
The way to beat it is easy. Simply take a bigger continent and starve the aussie out. Downside is most people simply dont have the brain power to realise what aussie is doing
I do prefer those versions, simply because having any alternate route into Australia that isn't through Siam/Indonesia stops it from being a stronghold that requires a coalition to break into if you can't do anything to stop the accruing bonus within a handful of turns. Otherwise, you need to have the territories for a bigger bonus and the goodwill of the other players to not stab you in the back to be able to race Oz dumping the bonus on the chokepoint and never having to worry about anything in life ever again.
Makes sense, If you can take Australia Papa New Guinea, and Indonesia, you can hunker down there and build up your strangth, since only one connection is through Indonesia just take Vietnam and and fortify that with all your units, you'll disrupt the bonus for Asia and still have the bonus for Australia. THen when you think you've built up enough of a force push on and take more territory. It's great for defensive, then a quick offense.
It's a solid strategy the only time it goes wrong is if someone can card chain stack and army before fighting your stack. That's about the only way I've seen that fail.

Risk is a social game more than a tactics game. Stay low, dont be spotted. I would rather sit on one solitary territory and take one territory a turn than war over a continent. Clump troops on one place and be an inconvenient target. Let the two other guys beef
I've played with someone who pulled a Biden and threw the game to intentionally let another player win. We were pretty pissed because before that it was actually anyone's game.
Their banter reminds me of when i played Medieval RTS on Roblox and twice beat them before they were ready, Full on blitzkrieg, They got pissy but ofcourse I had a full explanation for why I did it, As in the third match it was me vs my 3 friends I was playing with and I knew I would be overrun eventually so I snatched victory for myself while I still could, It isn't dumb or not allowed it is called Common Military Sense
