Bonus Dad Joke: Why was the teacher cross-eyed? Because he couldn't control his pupils. I scrambled to assemble your box of books and forgot a few notes. Specifically, per Cranford, if you just read the last paragraph on page 9 and first on page 10, you will see why the book is decorated in gray cows. It is an inside joke for folks have read the book (and remembered that part). Likewise, same with the fork I sketched - but that is more a vibe you get when reading the book, which can be done in a single day - you'll understand the quote and cloth cover better. Each of the bookmarks is on the page that held the quote; so not randomly placed, and all were humorous moments in which the quotes will then have more meaning. The "National Beef" box was not meant as an insult to your vegan-ness; it was just the sturdiest box I could find at the grocery market. I was so excited when you pulled out “The Happy Hollisters” I am 70 years old and it was one of my first chapter books that I read as a child and I loved that book. Have not ever heard of anyone else that has read that book. In Cold Blood is very good and I also recommend you watch the movie in black and white. Really enjoy your channel and alas it feeds my addiction.

Re: the book ornaments... After wanting to learn for years, I've just started to learn bookbinding. I've done my first 3 classes (in person, with all materials, tools and instructions provided by the teacher). I'm keen to do so much more and learn all the different styles. Carolyn, I think you'd love watching some bookbinding videos on youtube. They're wonderful. Some are really instructional, and others don't have voice over, where you just watch the process, as materials gradually get made into a book. It's really relaxing to watch.
I've always been interested in book binding as well! I have watched some book binding videos, and you're 100% right...I love them! It's so mesmerizing and relaxing to watch :)

Memoirs of a Geisha is one of my all time favorites. I've reread it so many times and always get something new out of it. The immersion into that world is incredible.
Geisha: A Life by Mineko Iwasaki is a real memoir of a geisha , and it's really good, it's one of the most prominent geishas that Golden based Memoirs of a Geisha on 😊
In Cold Blood is such an incredible book -- it is based on a real crime but I think it more literary crime reportage rather than true crime; Capote does such a fascinating job of breaking down every character (including the killers). There is a bit of a theory that he fell in love with one of the murderers (Perry) while doing research for the book and interviewing him. I studied it in high school and it was so incredibly memorable, I think you'll love it!!
José Saramago is a great author. The ones I liked.. "Blindness" is good, so is "Baltasar and Blimunda" (Memorial do Convento, has a Márquez vibe). "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ" and "Cain" are wonderful.
Memoirs of A Geisha, Life of Pi, and Lonesome Dove are some of my favorites. Also, I fall in the East of Eden camp as my favorite Steinbeck. "I once lived a stone's throw away from a family who all died of mysterious head injuries."
I absolutely loved “The Stranger” by Camus. He himself said that Meursault is the god that we deserve and there is so much meaning in it. The book blew my mind starting with the first paragraph. I hope you will enjoy it.

Because of ur recommendations I started reading Les Mis. And its the original translation (with edits, everyman library edtion). And it's surprisingly easy to read. Out of different translations from different languages of books, I have noticed English translations of French books seem to Translate well. At least to me it seems like that. But it's a good books so far. Also donate to prisons to. Inmates actually go through books quickly and enjoy them. (Just make sure to call ahead of time as their are some books that are not allowed). Author and TH-cam Brian Lee Durfee got me on the whole donating to prisons things.

Because of ur recommendations I started reading Les Mis. And its the original translation (with edits, everyman library edtion). And it's surprisingly easy to read. Out of different translations from different languages of books, I have noticed English translations of French books seem to Translate well. At least to me it seems like that. But it's a good books so far.
Also donate to prisons to. Inmates actually go through books quickly and enjoy them. (Just make sure to call ahead of time as their are some books that are not allowed). Author and TH-cam Brian Lee Durfee got me on the whole donating to prisons things.

he won the nobel prize in literature in 1998 and it was awarded to saramago because (and i quote) "who with the parables sustained by imagination, compassion and irony continually enables us once again to apprehend an elusory reality"
