I must thank you Emma for uploading this video. I did this for my boys years ago. One came back home being told by their teacher they had researched the wrong year. So we had to redo the whole book all over again. In the event of redoing it all both my boys came home one day and one of them showed us that he was an expert on the subject. This was hard due to the fact both our boys were identical twins. But we all really enjoyed doing the research and helping both of them preparing their books. Thank you once again for telling the terrible story of the Plague. Its also very interesting to learn about. PC. 22. 04. 2021.

Just read a shadow beyond and really enjoyed it. The chapter where Elizabeth Hancock buried her family was difficult to read because of the tears in my eyes. Thank you for a lovely story. I will now find another of your books and start reading. Well done.

Fantastic, imagine my surprise when I read this book, when I found that there was a Thorneycroft hall, my grandmother was Ivy Thorneycroft and said she was related to the Thorneycrofts of Thorneycroft hall. Then reading on I found my mother, ivys daughter, married name Elizabeth Hancock, all from north Staffordshire, so spooky........

I really enjoyed your book. I couldn’t put it down and have recommended to friends and family. So poignant to what we are all going through now. So interesting to watch this film too. Just wondered, did the Mompesson’s really have children and did they survive? X

Thank you very much - I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Yes, the Mompesson's did have two young children. They were sent away before the decision to fully quarantine was announced. So they did survive the plague. There are some very sad letters written by William to his children. There are copies in the church of Eyam. William left Eyam shortly after the quarantine was lifted.

Do we know where Emmott Sydall is buried or was her resting place undocumented? Thanks for the video.

There is no gravestone that I know of in the village. Many were buried in the fields behind their houses or in their gardens. Emmott and Rowland have such a sad story. It is featured in A Shadow Beyond, but I feel it is deserving of a book of its own. Rowland must have known what had happened when Emmott stopped turning up but his love and grief meant he could not accept it until he had been able to get back into the village and see for himself that she really had gone. No chance to even say goodbye and give her any comfort in those final moments. Heartbreaking. And such a horrible parallel to what people have gone through this year.

@@emma-nicolelewis282 Apparently they buried Emmott in ''Cussy Dell''. I am not sure if this is local slang for Cucklett Delph but that would make sense. A fitting resting place and she would have had no idea that she would become so admired and celebrated.
